from the back of your big brown eyes
i knew you'd be gone as soon as you could
and i hoped you would
we could see that you weren't yourself
and the lines on your face did tell
it's just as well
you'd never be yourself again

saw you last night
dance by the light of the moon
stars in your eyes
free from the life that you knew

you're the magic that holds the sky up from the ground
you're the breath that blows these cool winds 'round
trading places with an angel now

saw you last night
dance by the light of the moon
stars in your eyes
free from the life that you knew
saw you last night
stars in the sky
smiled in my room

Only 7 Ben Folds songs in the library, and only two from BFF?? Maybe we could trade in some of the other overplayed stuff for some more Ben? Guess I need to gets to uploading too. I was always kinda partial to the first BFF CD myself...
AMEN to that! I can't believe there isn't more stuff by Ben & BFF on here.
horrid.
Elton-y arrangement.

I think Ben's voice is charming in its naive quality, but it's purely a matter of taste. Conversely, I do NOT enjoy listening to Natalie Merchant keep missing notes. It's really drives me nuts that she has such a beautiful voice but seems so lazy. Love her songs, love her voice, hate her technique. The reason I like Ben's voice is, well, he has no voice and no need for technique.
I agree. His voice is so pure and earnest that I don't mind flaws in tone or technique.

I was just about to ask whether I was the only one who's noticed that this guy can't sing.
I noticed it right off but found it mostly pleasant and actually somewhat charming within the context of the composition - right up until the strings, which went a bit farther than I cared for. I don't remember hearing this song before, and I did have some powerful drugs this morning, so I should probably just keep my mouth shut.

Ouch. The off pitch singing hurts my ears.

So you do play Ben Folds! This is a beautiful track.... especially after the Who (maybe the odd timpani hit is the connection) I've seen alot of BF live. His new (Aussie) line up is very schmick. Ben Folds is now residing in Adelaide (a pretty wierd town I think....have a few friends there..) Thanks RP. I love this programming.

ABSOLUTELY... A GREAT LISTEN FROM START TO FINISH!

i just don't hear all this talent that everyone speaks of with ben folds five. TO ME, they always sound like cheesy-frat-jazz with some pop thrown in it so it will sell on MTV...
I guess that would be why they were completely ignored by MTV for all but a couple of songs... Anyway, I'm glad there's finally some older stuff from Ben up here too, especially since when I suggested Ben Folds Five three years ago by email (I think it was before uploads), I got a response from Bill something along the lines of "the music of Ben Folds Five doesn't interest me very much". Since then I've also uploaded two tracks off of Ben's recent EPs (Protection and In Between Days), both with "sorry"s.
True, Ben doesn't have a great voice, but I don't believe that makes him a bad singer. He does manage to fill his stuff with a good deal of emotion, something many singers with good voices fail to do. Also, it was the bands' rough edges and unpolished sound (yet obvious musicianship/lyricism) that first attracted me to them. Naked Baby Pictures isn't much more than an extended EP. I don't consider it one of Ben Folds Five's albums, so much as a release, and I think Ben would agree. It did have a couple of strong songs on it. Fear of Pop is another that I would avoid, unless you're a die-hard Ben Folds fan. It was very experimental - and you can hear it's influences on ...Reinhold Messner, but it's not an easy listen.

Amazing lyrics and music. Ben's a great songwriter and musician, he just needs to let someone else sing it. If he sang karaoke and no one knew him, he would only get "courtesy applause".
Agreed.

Workin' on it. I uploaded "Evaporated," the final track from "Whatever and Ever, Amen." It's current "probably not" rating doesn't bode well, though. :(

actually, Darren Jesse (the drummer for Ben Folds Five) wrote the lyrics and chord progression for this song on guitar. Later, Ben took it and turned it into a piano song with quite a soulful melody. Just a little fun fact..
I'm glad to finally hear something from this. I bought "Naked Baby Pictures" and thought it was such crap I swore never again. I give this a 7.

Great to hear some Ben Folds here! Would be great to hear something (nearly anything) from 'whatever and ever, amen'.
