I wish I could eat the salt
Off of your lost faded lips
We can cap the old times
Make playing only logical harm
We can cap the old lines
Make playing that nothing else will change

But she can read, she can read, she can read
She can read she's bad
She can read, she can read
She can read she's bad
Oh, she's bad

But it's different now that I'm poor and aging
I'll never see this face again
You go stabbing yourself in the neck

And we could find new ways of living
Make playing only logical harm
And we could top the old times
Clay-making that nothing else will change

But she can read, she can read, she can read
She can read she's bad
She can read, she can read
She can read she's bad
Oh, she's bad

It's different now that I'm poor and aging
I'll never see this place again
You go stabbing yourself in the neck
But it's different now that I'm poor and aging
I'll never see this place again
And you'll go stabbing yourself in the neck

It's in the way that she poses
It's in the things that she puts in my hair
Her stories are boring and stuff
She's always calling my bluff
She puts it, she puts the weights into my little heart
And she gets in my room and she takes it apart
She puts the weights into my little heart
I said she puts the weights into my little heart

She packs it away
She packs it away
She packs it away
She packs it away
She packs it away
She packs it away
She packs it away

It's in the way that she walks
Her heaven is never enough
She puts the weights in my heart
She puts it, she puts the weights into my little heart

"I wish I could eat the salt

Is a line that haunts me to this day, 18 years later
This album was so impactful on me and my friends at the time, and still get played quite often... The whole album is a 10 in my book. It's a book full of highs and lows, and this album gets it.

Spread love

Maybe you should clean out yer ears and listen to some real music....rather than that dolly parton remix crap you have cranked on right now. Interpol rocks hands down

It isn't that this song is lame or not...in fact it's not that bad. Just that it's a total knock off of Tom Verlaine and Television...the guitar riff is 100% copied from Verlaine's. So in that sense, 0% originality. <-X
fantastic song. great album.

this band rocks. so hard!
You gotta watch out for those typos: you wrote "rocks" when you meant "sucks"
Sorry but anyone with decent musical background could compose stuff like this. No flow, too erratic. I still give it a 5 for the Chameleons UK guitar like sound.

Aww, if you do, you won't be able to hear that Santana song you love so much.

Ditto that! Whoever gave this a ten should have large obstacles thrown at them.
this band rocks. so hard! great NEW music finally.

I want this.
I\'d never noticed before how much Interpol\'s lead singer sounds like Gord Downie from the Tragically Hip...
Wow, Awesome. Never heard \'em before. I always discover great stuff through RP! Makes me wanna
Dang! Can\'t believe i miseed this! I agree with all previous...my favourite disc of 2002, and a heckuva good show. Thanks, Bill & Rebecca!
I love Interpol! One of the best discs of 2002. Rush to buy \"Turn on the Bright Lights\" today! You will not be disappointed.
Someone gave this CD to me back in December, was a bit dubious but he knew my tastes well. Really good stuff, best new band I've heard in years. If any comparison had to be made, it would be that Interpol is the 2002 version of Joy Division. The guitar work bears some resemblance to the Strokes (what little of them I've heard), but very original. Part of the Joy Division comparison is the relationship to goth music--reminiscient, but not goth.
