I'm goin' down
down down down
I'm going down
Down down down
I've got my big feet on the ground
I'm goin' down
down down down
I'm goin' down
going back underground
oh let me down without a sound
I'm going down down down down
I'm going down down down down down
you gonna miss me when I'm gone
oh again, all my tears are gone
I'm goin' down
down down down
I'm goin' down
down down down
you're gonna miss me after all
at midnight, when all your tears are gone

Ok, it isn’t the Jeff Beck version, but JB is rare on RP. Written by Leon Russell, first recorded by Freddie King.
Oh dear! I can’t unhear it now, but it sounds like Tiny Tim doing the falsetto in the chorus. Dig up Tiny Tim’s version of ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and you’ll hear what I mean. Oh well!
Whoa

Cover Freddie King!

This is kind of trippy
Who's playing the guitar?
Great track but Bryan really ought to put down the harmonica and let the guitarists come to the fore.

Help? (Ronnie Dio?) I know it'll come to me at about two ayem and I'll sit up in bed and yell the name out... (I guess this makes me a pretty scary person.)

Um, my point was that Bryan Ferry should never have attempted this powerhouse.  And I'll shut up now.

Maybe this will help ... Assuming with your ability to stream RP you have internet access ...

Great music to start the week of Researchers' Night. Let's dance!

Another classic from our dearly departed and never to be forgotten RP friend.  RIP Anne 😥

Agree.  This one's pretty good.
wonderfully cool and understated - :-))
It gets a nine from me but on reflection half of that score really goes to RP for playing it.  Lounge lizard Ferry is the apparent antithesis of "Going Down".  So 4.5 to Ferry and 4.5 to RP.
This song holds a special significance for those of us who like to play bridge.
Briyan Ferry - Old but not Cold{#Bananajam}
{#Devil_pimp}zesty ! yet another version the don nix classic
Another version, at the opposite end of the spectrum:

Jeff Beck/ Beth Hart/Tal Wilkenfeld - bass / Lizzie Ball - violin/ Jonathan Joseph - drums

Bryan is sounding very enervated of late.
Bryan Ferry represents a clear, cool departure from the everyday world of groovy "Rock-n'-Roll-It's-Got-A-Good-Beat-And-You-Can-Dance-To-It- Mister-Clark-I'll-Give-It-A-95" standard bullsh*t. You have to watch out as he pitches the curve-ball/curve-ball/SINKER! Unique musician; perhaps an acquired taste  I can see from the comments. Tjhe first time I nheard thie, I'd NEVER IMAGINED that someone had covered this, one of our truly favorite songs. It quite blew me away.

I love Brian Ferry but this is not my favaorite.
Musically this is pretty nice, the vocals though sound like he is mailing it in or on 'ludes..  Take your pick.

He sure doesn't. He should stick to yuppie rock and questionable militaristic dress fetishes. Nice backing, but his voice is entirely unconvincing.

LOVE a few cuts from this effort - especially Cruel - unfortunately this is not one of them
What would Freddie King say?
Why is his head lying on the sidewalk?

Sorry my friends but this I think is a bad cover. I just say Don Nix, rock on all of you.
You know, I'm used to Beck and Cale's version of this, so initially I'm thinking blech!
But Ferry's smoothness connotes something a little different than the others.
This isn't working.
Stick with the JJ Cale version!

Like Bryan but not this choice of song.
That's a good point.

Hm, I kinda like this streamlined version of BF.
He's cool...even when he is going down.

I love Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry but NOT THIS! Try some early Roxy, like Mother of Pearl.
I like Bryan as a covers artist.  His Dylan covers work far better than you'd think.  Seen him live a couple of times & he's a great show.

I totally concur. Some things BF hits out of the park. This is a complete strike-out, as when he showed up at Clapton's in pursuit of Jerry Hall. (She was already being, uh, pursued by Jagger's dagger.)

Does anyone else hear a Mark Knofler sound with the guitar?
Some nice guitar work, but where is it he's going again?  Oh yeah - down.
Not even close.

Play Virginia Plain or something like that.
Please play the Freddie King version, not this piece of shit!
Love Ferry and Roxy Music but this is nothing special. I second the call for more old Roxy Music.
I agree. This song ruins the vibe of the previous two: Turn On Your Lovelight-->Feelin' Alright. Ashame. The acid reflux is bubbling up in my throat. A sure sign of impending vomitting.

yeah this version is breathtaking at least don't make him follow Joe Cocker and Bobby Bland, that's a set-up for failure Bill... Roxy Music!
Oh my god this is so painfully bad even my feelings are getting hurt listening to this.
Better than Brittany Spears, so at least a 2.
Well this sucks.
Bryan Ferry cannot do blues.
Yech, this is not so hot. Albert and Hound Dog are turning over in their graves. Of course, I've not ever liked Bryan Ferry, so I be predisposed towards giving this cut a "two".
WTF was Bryan thinking? Did someone have a gun to his head? The horror.
Yeah, like how the Byrds butcher Dylan tunes, such a travesty. wmstadler wrote:

I second the motion of the song title...lowering this one to a 2. Utterly boring.
Yeah, well...Love BF but can't touch Jeff Beck's version...pah-leez...
Great song. Great set.
Maybe I'm biased by the below avarage stuffe played in the two hours leading to this song, but I'm really surprised by the low avarage rating of this very very nice song. I add an 8.
Simon Cowell would rip Ferry a new one on his "song choice."
I like Ferry, and I like this song done by JJ Cale. I dont particularly like this song done by Mr Ferry.
This razor-blade song was not meant for Sir Ferry, Beck blazes, Sir Ferry's Avalon is divine...nice P.M. 801 guitar licks though!
Great song! BUT: Do you know the G3-Version? That hits you from the ofice chair!

Yeah how about the Jeff Beck version.... He's a lot less likely to get beat up behind the roadhouse. If we're going to listen to Bryan Ferry covers, how about Hard Rain's Gonna Fall?
Nothin'n wrong with this, but now that you mention it....the intensity of the Jeff Beck version peals the paint off the walls. And this place could use some new paint....

I really like most BF I hear, but his interp of this Don Nix chestnut didn't seem to work.. for me anyway.
I love Bryan Ferry, and mostly his older stuff, but this is great nonetheless!! Thanks!! ~Helene VIVA "Frantic"

Yep, it's been covered by a lot of bands. A southern-fried classic. Beck's version is on the "orange" album, and it's great. I like the Jeff Beck version better than this Bryan Ferry one. As Beck himself would say, it's "just an excuse for being flash on guitar" and he certainly is on that track. It was last played on RP in 2002... time for a request?
I agree!!! Please play the Jeff Beck version.. purdy pleez?
He sounds like he catched a cold, but (if so) it only seems to do (more) justice to the song. I like the way they keep from overdoing it.

Can't imagine that they'd allow this in a Mississippi roadhouse.
Sorry Brian, you've gone down with this one! The good thing about this song, is that everything that comes before and comes after this song sound better in comparison!

Mississipi, or Avalon... ;-)

Ferry's solo work never turned me on......
I still like Jeff Beck's cover the best, but Ferry's is good too--it is the understated complement to Beck's driving version. As to the album, Frantic, nothing Ferry does really fits that description, but it is slightly livelier than his typical croon. It also grows on you with repeated listenings; at first I was not thrilled with the Dylan covers, I have changed my tune completely.

I don't think anyone has yet to out perform Freddie King. I sure wished he had lived a bit longer. I think he died at the age of 36? Year 1976? Freddie King! Long live Freddie King! One serious (Texas) blues master for those who have not heard of him. Goin' down!
Jeff Beck does a fine version of this, too.

Completly agree with that. I'd throw about 80 percent of the songs on that album and send BF back to the studios...

Good musicians backing a soul-less vocal (I know, that's the definition of Bryan Ferry)...it just doesn't have any bite. Sorry.
Groove god. Bow to him.
Cool cover. The first version was recorded by Freddie King and produced by Nix for Leon Russell\'s Shelter label.
