He tried to look like he had a little bit of money
A grifter with a southern drawl
Well I could tell right away by the the way he was runnin'
That the boy was just a beggin' to crawl
At least a junkie knows what he needs
You get a man all strung out on greed
And he'll give up everything he's got for just one shot of having it all

He took every last cent of his savings
On a trip to the local track
He had a tip from a friend,
Bet it all down to win
On a horse named Heart Attack
Well now he ain't no fool, boys, he didn't bet it all
So everything was cool when that horse took a fall
But then he turned around and blew the rest
Trying to win it back

He wanted easy money
It's sad but it's true
Everybody wants the most they can possibly get
For the least they can possibly do
They want that easy money
I don't understand
God they scheme and they plan
But they can't get their hands
On no easy money

Now she'd been watching him from a table
Not too soft but not too tough
Well she figured by the money he'd been throwing around
That he was damned sure good looking enough
So she worked her way over, she shot him a wink
He took his last five bucks, he bought her a drink
By the time they hit the Motel Six
They figured they was in love, love, love, love

She loved that easy money
It's sad but it's true
Everybody wants the most they can possibly get
For the least they can possibly do
They want that easy money
I don't understand
Lord god, they scheme and they plan,
But they can't get their hands
On that easy money.

It must have been about two weeks later
He got a call from a business friend
Who'd found a sure fire steal of an investment deal
And honey, guess what, he's gonna let both of us in
So they took all her savings out of the bank
And on the way home they stopped to gas up the tank
She stepped in for some ciggs and she never saw the fucker again

He got that easy money
It's sad but it's true
Everybody wants the most they can possibly get
For the least they can possibly do
He thinks it's easy money
He don't understand
If you scheme and you plan,
You ain't got your hands
On no easy money
You scheme and you plan,
You ain't got your hands
On no easy money

Outright painful to listen to.  I gave it a one, but to each her own I guess.

Nah, mostly too derivative and unoriginal.

Derivative of what, prior to 1994?

Too 'murican for the RP crowd? This is a great song, and I don't listen to country or western much either, but good is good.

First time hearing this and I am immediately putting it on my karaoke playlist. Light hearted and you'd definitely get the whole bar singin!
eeeeeeeewwwwww
ThereĀ“s some great stuff on youtube of some live performances with hilarious and spot-on social commentary... Check out Double Wide Blues....
How come John Travolta is on the album cover?
I love his "Talkin' Seattle Grunge Rock Blues" bonus song too. Fun stuff.
Gosh, the way y'all dis on this, you'd think it hit a nerve or something....

This song still gets a nine in my book, if only for the cutting insights on humanity.
"Everybody wants the most they can possibly get
For the least they can possibly do"

Gets to 7 just for that line!
Guitar work reminds me of Kenny Wayne Shepherd...
Bloodless.
I have no idea what I was on when I first rated this song, but I gave it a one.  WTF?  I love Todd Snider!  One of the most entertaining performers I have ever seen live.
Played once in twelve years, seems about right.
LOVE me some Todd!  Hope you play more!
Hhhmmm, I don't think I was donating money to hear this garbage.
I agree! Bill and Rebecca are just having fun -- let's sit back and enjoy their creativity. I'm sure they'll come up with some fun $$ songs!

Bill and Rebecca, you guys are hilarious!
Really like his song "Back to the Crossroads" too. It was on one of the Oxford American compilations.

Good.
Bad.
I guess someone wants to hear this, but I'd rather not...
I actually saw this guy play live at the House of Blues in Hollywood. He gave such a great performance opening up for Kenny Wayne Shephard that I bought his CD at the show. I'm sad to say though his album wasn't that great. Magic onstage, fizzles on CD.

You're twisted, sister. This guy has some pretty good songs actually, decent storyteller.
I hope this one isn't played again for another 2.5 years. Bad, bad, bad.
Oh, wait, no. That was Dee Snider.
This song is just plain irritating.
i cn see this song played at a strip club
Reminds me of David Wilcox.
