Lord of the starfields
Ancient of Days
Universe Maker
Here's a song in your praise

Wings of the storm cloud
Beginning and end
You make my heart leap
Like a banner in the wind

O love that fires the sun
Keep me burning.
Lord of the starfields
Sower of life,
Heaven and earth are
Full of your light

Voice of the nova
Smile of the dew
All of our yearning
Only comes home to you

O love that fires the sun
keep me burning

We all worship something.  But if there is a God ,and I believe in the triune God that Bruce is in love with, He is much more worthy of worship than all the created things we put in that place of "ultimate" in our hearts and minds.
The RP listener ratings on this song vary across the scale, while the comments seem generally negative.
Usually find myself commenting on songs I rate closer to either end of the scale.
Missed hearing a good portion, so I will listen again before rating this one.

This is the kind of song that that dweeb with the guitar would've played in "Animal House." Where's John Belushi when we need him?!?

This is a great post....thanks for the references (dweeb-pets identity,,Belushi-who doesn't miss him)
Gets a three just for being Mr. Cockburn
For about 1/10 of a second I thought this was the version of The End that was in Apocalypse Now.

Ha ha ha I made myself laugh. Thanks, Scott! You're very welcome.

By the way this is my first artist I've given a 10 and a 1 to. This would be the 1.

Hmm. Let me see what I think...
Barf.
Laughter, Wince, Repeat.
Sounds too much like a Unitarian hymn...so earnest, so not subtle.
First Cockburn song that hurt to listen to.
There's some strange scratches or audio peeks at the beginning of this song

Listenable, but a bit boring

Wow!

Does that bring back memories of Canadian summers of love and mosquito bites!

Pronounced Ko-Burn btw for non-Canadians, he is a national hero.
Pronounced Hear-O, Not He-Ro btw also for non-Canadians.

And if you speed-up what I've said 10Xs, thats the high pitched tones in the background of the imperfect song.
I respect his influence on the folk music world and other singer-songwriters ... but I just do not enjoy most of his work.
Geico.

This is whiny and just all around not good.

I was going to ask something similar. Anyone else keep hearing an annoying high-pitched beeping in there? It sounded like feedback, or a bellish sound..

Keeps making me thing my phone's going off, as my phone just kind of beeps and rattles.

in album "In the Falling Dark" (1976) -  ** 8 **

Not a fan of this....now if it was Bruce Dern...that would be a different thing.

He is (was?) a devout Christian. Though I am not, I respect his courage to express spiritual messages through his art. I've always had a soft spot for this song. 10

So you can tolerate 5 minutes 15 seconds of Bruce, and no more?
Pretty much, and this song was not it!

CanCon!
I'm a Cockburn fan, and I find this one kinda icky.

Seriously I'm not trolling, but that IS your opinion... I may be young but I don't find much pleasure listening to the song (or the guy). But that's also my opinion. To me, there is better. To you, there may not be.

Hello, It certainly sounds like this was recorded from an LP? It has been a while, but I still recognize those sounds...this is the first time I have heard this song. I think that Bruce has improved with age, though I can hear the potential in this early-ish stuff. Neil

Great to hear some early Bruce on RP. As for the cover photo, he looks like one of the Cavemen from those insurance ads.

I disagree, but I must say, very funny.
Also "self-important and affected: acting as though more important or special than is warranted, or appearing to have an unrealistically high self-image", which in this case does apply. For his charitable work I applaud him. I was talking about the song my friend. Did you forget that? Perhaps the above definition applies to you as well. robyule wrote:
Perhaps you need to check your dictionary " making usually unjustified or excessive claims ". Bruce Cockburn is one musician and human who is not prentetious - not many artists out there can claim to have travelled the troubled parts of the world as much as he has.

A great memory. Connie Klassen, a high school girlfriend, played the piano and sang this on Canada Day, 1981, as part of a music festival in the community park in Whitehorse, Yukon. She was rivetting. Just an amateur, but spellbinding. Everyone was silent in appreciation. Haven't heard this song since. Thanks Bill, for reminding me of an old friend. Seems music DOES have it's own memory in our little brains. Thanks again...
Sounds like a Urantian or perhaps he reads a lot of William Blake.
It's nice to hear some early Bruce on RP.
Lord of the crap
Love this album! I still only have it as an LP, but it gets played fairly often anyway. He was definitely going through a spiritual phase when he made it, as opposed to his more political / leftist stuff later on. Great songs!
Brings me back to my college days, late 70' A 10 back then and today!!
A fabulous addition of some early Bruce!
wow this is terrible.
Really love this.
Horribly pretentious lyrics.
