Making a living the old, hard way.
Taking and giving my day by day.
I dig the snow and the rain and the bright sunshine.
I'm draggin' the line (draggin' the line).
My dog Sam eats purple flowers.
We ain't got much, but what we've got's ours.
We dig snow and the rain and the bright sunshine.
Draggin' the line (draggin the line).
I feel fine.
I'm talking about peace of mind.
I'm gonna take my time.
I'm getting to good times.
Draggin' the line (draggin the line).
Loving a free and feeling spirit.
Hugging a tree when you get near it.
Digging the snow and the rain and the bright sunshine.
I'm draggin' the line (draggin the line).

Spoil sport! I am 68yrs old & wouldn't mind hearing it 2-3 more times before I die! I had COMPLETELY forgotten about that song until you brought it up. ...see what you did! PS: I bet it sounds a lot better in FLAC!
Bill, please promise me you will never play Mony Mony.

Love the song and enjoyed reading TJ explain how he wrote it.

LOL! But this was competing against The Carpenters & The Captain and Tenille on AM top 40 radio ...a better tune than that krappola! ...maybe, not by very much, but still better!

ah yes - thirteen years old, being thirteen year olds out in the ole strawberry patch - the whole world, our whole lives at our feet - sweet times - thank you for playing this and bringing a smile to my Monday morning face!
splendid intro !
Reminds me of summers in the 70s.

A couple of meanings is work that took place on a barge such as pulling ropes. And trying to make a living the old, hard way.
Not to be confused with towing the line
Actually the expression is "toe the line" and not "tow the line" but what's a letter here and there amongst friends?

Listening just now, Bill mentioned the album cover. Holy Frijole! But then, looking at the Wikipedia article for Tommy James, I find that his record company, Roulette, was a mob front and that they owe him millions in royalties they kept for themselves! Wow.

Tommy James and The Shondells — a few good tunes, and one or two that were really good.
Cover art here: yikes. WTF.

Good for a nostalgic giggle.
Haven't heard this anywhere in decades. RP has rolled it twice—2x—in the span of two weeks.
I missed the first time, though, but when I did hear the first few seconds of this instance, .
The album artwork is something I wish I hadn't seen, though. Rough and smooth, I guess.

Neither had I seen that album cover. Very creepy. I still like this song, but this would not be my favorite from TJ. Maybe a conversion or something happened post Shondell's.
I've heard this song off and on for 45 YEARS, and never seen the album cover. And that's probably a good thing, as Tommy was always a "singles guy" for me, and that cover is pretty creepy.

Wow. Me thinks the album art would never fly in today's market. Still cool.
