I kept my appointment with fate
And like every human being that was ever born
I'm unique
Things disappear, but I'm still here
I'm still a freak
I'm still a head and I'm doing fine
I can hear your voice in my mind
You ain't singing my praises now honey
do it when I'm dead
I'm not bitter but I'm no quitter
I'm still a head
I'm still awake, I knew all along
If you ain't crazy there's something wrong
and there's no such thing as a coincidence
or a mistake
And all this confusion is all just illusion
I'm still awake
I'm still a freak, I ain't been gagged
I'm still flying the flag
The game's movin' so fast, who knows where it's gonna
be this time next week!
Empires rise and fall, but through it all
I'm still a freak!
Funny thing just happened - about 20 minutes ago the Waterboys flashed through my mind, and I checked the interweb. Freiburg, Germany (2 hours from home), 25 July, 2023. Bought tickets for me and my sweetie... 20 minutes later, "Still a Freak" rocks out on RP! Sometimes the universe is just synched up!
Freiburg rocks! Hope you had a great time...
Heh, heh heh. Age 66 at this moment, and I'm still a freak.

First verse says it all! 10 for that alone but there is so much more.
Some days there needs to be an "11".
Well thanks for stating that....gave me a chance to learn some Judaism:
blech (plural blechs) (Judaism) A metal sheet used to cover stovetop burners on Shabbat to allow food to be kept warm without violating the prohibition against cooking
Religions can be so very weird!
(And well done on the reply to deepwoodskev.)

Don't forget the hybrid: gearhead freak.

Man, 62 here and still flying my freak flag... though thinner and not as much on top!

Judaism, the original law fraternity. Each law has it's loophole.
Fat Freddie's Cat!
Moving 7 --> 9 for that yodel-screaming guitar solo. Dammit.
Sounds more like a violin solo to me.
ain't being gagged
we're still around
As a Scotsman, I have to say I hear no trace of a Scottish accent.
I hear a very faint trace of an accent, but I wouldn't claim to know what kind, other than it isn't American like Tom's, which I think might have been the point of the comment you replied to?
Agreed! This is now my walk-on cut...

My battle cry through out this year and will be for few more months i am afraid to say.
The singer's Scottish accent in particular reminds me of Tom Petty.

Looking at you 10's surprised you think this is 1.
It is at least 5.
Have another listen.
No more tequila for you! ; )
The skronky guitar solo dropped it down a notch. Mike Scott needs someone around to tell him no, I think. Or maybe someone told him he should add a blistering solo. dunno. I do want to hear the rest of the album before I condemn it fully. I'll give this one a 5, but it's veering toward worst-rating-on-RP territory...
I bought the CD being a WB fan back to Pagan Place. It's a little uneven a bit reminiscent of Pagan Place but more bluesy and RnR. I find this one interesting due to the lyric content and found it amusing he would do this. Never thought of him as a "Freak". I could do without the "I See Elvis" song. Girl Who Slept for Scotland is good but I don't understand the lyrics, and a few others are good.
Mayday ! I'm still flying the flag.
Here comes zig-zag the jet-gag
Perhaps I am too kind.
Zack, zack, das war's.

Well said both of U re: boogie blues and yet still giving the Wboys a chance. Mike Scott has such a great muse and I am glad they are at least still in the game. Further investigation needed.
But I do like the cover art. National Geograph-esque.
my thoughts exactly!

That skronky guitar is a fiddle.

If this is the same singer as from the Waterboys heyday, his voice sounds really different.
I like this! Thanks, Bill and Rebecca.
If you're thinking of songs like "the Whole of the Moon" - yup, this is the same singer. I don't think his voice has changed all that much. I like this tune too.

The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill
Me like. Yet another band I really never paid attention to, until hearing them on RP. I need to start a list of good music I have been introduced to here. It would be a long one.
That is why we come here. Thanx RP!
