Here comes the woman, with the look in her eye
Raised on leather, with flesh on her mind
Words as weapons, sharper than knives
Makes you wonder, how the other half die? Other half die
Makes you wonder, wonder, wonder

Here come the man, with the look in his eye
Fed on nothing, but full of pride
Look at them go, look at them kick
Makes you wonder, how the other half live

The devil inside, the devil inside
Every single one of us the devil inside
The devil inside, the devil inside
Every single one of us the devil inside

Here come the world, with the look in its eye
Future uncertain, but certainly slight
Look at the faces, listen to the bells
It's hard to believe we need a place called hell, place called hell

The devil inside, the devil inside
Every single one of us the devil inside
The devil inside, the devil inside
Every single one of us the devil inside

Here comes the woman, with the look in her eye
Raised on leather, with flesh on her mind
Words as weapons sharper than knives
Makes you wonder, how the other half die

The devil inside, the devil inside
Every single one of us the devil inside
The devil inside, the devil inside
Every single one of us the devil inside

The devil inside, the devil inside
Every single one of us the devil inside
The devil inside, devil inside
Every single one of us the devil inside

The devil inside, yeah, yeah, yeah
The devil inside, yeah, yeah, yeah

BEST COMMENT! 10!!
Never the wrong time for INXS!

The day I heard that Hutchence died by suicide, a part of me died too. What hope do we have when someone who had everything could still see no hope for the future? I learned more later about the problems he faced, but its still so incredibly sad.

Meanwhile, easy 10's on almost all INXS songs which always get me up and bopping!

5 Years later it's a 7.3.
The 80's are finally being recognised as a pretty Awesome Decade?
I would love to go back ... They actually WERE "Good Old Days"
1987 and a 16 yr old me won tickets on Triple M to INXS Kick tour at the Ent Cent in Sydney. For the first time (and probably last!)  I had girls everywhere trying go on a date with me. Thanks Michael and RIP legend

I miss him, and miss INXS!

Now that's a great memory you have filed away! I can almost picture it.
INXS Kick Tour, December 18th 1990, Point Theater Dublin... One of the very best gigs I've ever been to!!!
Just noticed this lyric for the first time. Seems pretty appropo.

Same here. I think bits of this remind me of Skin Deep. It's only a passing similarity, but it's there for me.

Anybody listen to his remixes of INXS albums?

No, He has done some great remixes. But, he sure mucked up Yes with his remixes!

Great, immortal song! Can't help but remember my wild English mate "Short-Circuit" Mike, from Newcastle, bopping and lip-synching to this around the bungalow we had in Kuta Beach Christmas '88/ New Year's '89, especially the morning after we did some up-all-night Magic Mushroom Omelets at Midnight Oil Cafe over in Legian. I miss him, and miss INXS!

The Jersey Devils!
80's were da bomb. As I see it & most with a head on their shoulders, this world is selling out. Most of the value is going away. Eating our own world up one bite at a time.
One of the most overrated bands of all time.
This is quite likable.

The other drums are cool. ...I'm just not a big fan of the gated-reverb sound!

Agreed 100%!

My enjoyment of this track comes from memories of "lip synching" this with a couple of classmates in (whatever grade a 10 year old is in) music class back at Mukilteo Elem school, gosh what an assignment that was!  I remember the look on Ms. White's face when we started playing it.  Looking back now I realize she probably LOVED this song, heck she probably danced at clubs when this was popular.  As a 10 year old though, the meaning of the song was lost on us....we just heard the words "Devil" and "Hell" and that was enough to make it cool.  An 8 from me (7 for the track and +1 for the memory) - Long Live RP and here's to all schools being able to keep teaching MUSIC to the kids.

I agree - people remember what they want to remember, unfortunately, too many only seem to remember who and what they saw on MTV instead of paying attention to the other artists emerging at that time.

I remember that the band shot the video for Devil Inside at the local bar in Newport Beach.
Ok, not what i had in mind, TMI

As more than 82% of your ratings are 5 or less (and that's 3841 ratings!), I'm surprised you think you've ever liked anything.  Why are you here, exactly, when you dislike so much of what's played?

I don't think this song does, nor INXS in general. Their sound was bold, brassy, and unique in a decade largely associated with post-punk synth-pop (some of which is very good actually). I believe folks tie them to the eighties if they heard them in the eighties. Folks that didn't, I suspect, and did not know from which decade they came, would struggle to identify their decade. Their music was mostly immaculately produced, which did tend to be a hallmark of the eighties, but falls short of the overly slick production style that a lot of the popular hits of that time had. What I think anyway.

MTV and iconic bands like "Flock of Seagulls" often are the things people think of first when remembering the eighties but for many it was also a decade of great musical exploration, creativity, and diversity.

Couldn't really get into this even at the time. Just felt like Aussie faux-rock, provincial and a little desperate. I started getting turned on to INXS only with their later albums and songs like Suicide Blonde and, especially, Baby Don't Cry.
Bill, while we're on the subject of Aussie bands, what about some Skyhooks?
Good old stuff - right, that´s me off to Sp0t1fy for a blast to the past {#Bananajam}

On the plus side, he'll never need a face lift and he'll never look old.
They sure had a good thing going, strong songwriting that was masked in a slight veil of pop, which made the music accessible to a huge audience.

Then someone had to develop a fancy for auto-erotic asphyxiation, and that was the end of that.
{#Dancingbanana_2}I don't understand how the rating is so low ! Yes it sounds like the 80's but not in a tacky way ! This song is aging pretty well I think... For me, it's a 9 .
Great song.  Halloween and again now.
good wake-up Bop!  Shakin' my touche' big time
Miss them so much!!!
After all these years hearing this piece as a sort of background, tonight I have earbuds in. And I hear the lyrics. I suppose the lesson is to try and not assume that anything is really deserving of background music status until you have listened. The near-constant stream of sounds that surround us can make it possible to miss lyrics that resonate. But for RP, I would never had realized that INXS had some real substance. My bad.
miss this
The monotony of my local radio station meant they played things at almost the same time every day.  Devil Inside meant I was nearly finished my afternoons work on the milk truck.  Thinking back makes me even happier to be an RP listener these days.
Brilliant album all round.  Still love it, even though I don't wear my leather jacket these days, or drive the V8 ....
