I finished with my man cause he couldn't help me with my mind
People think I'm insane because I am frowning all the time (and)
All day long I think of things but nothing seems to satisfy
Think I'll lose my mind if I don't find something...

Can you help me occupy my brain (x2)

I need someone to show me the things in life that I cant find
I cant see the things that make true happiness, I must be blind ('n so)

Make a joke and I will sigh and you will laugh and I will cry
Happiness I cannot feel and love to me is so unreal

Can you help me occupy my brain (x4)

And as you hear these words I'm telling you now of my state
I tell you to enjoy your life I wish I could but its too late so
Make a joke and I will sigh and you will laugh and I will cry
Happiness I cannot feel and love to me is so unreal

For a moment there, I thought this was Ane Brun. Great reinterpretation making the song wholly their own. Love it.
Never been much of an Ozzy fan. Nor do I dislike covers (unless they don't deserve the name). But apart from any connection to the original - this thing sounds like your everyday teenage wannabe Youtube starlet. Yuck.
Do some Sudoku, girl!

Maybe because it isn't an Oz tune as Satisfaction isn't a Mick Jagger song?

gotta be the 'real' tune for me on this one.. junebaby65 wrote:

I hope the original songwriters are as flattered as I am impressed.

You really speak for 95% of the people in your state?  What a terrifying state of affairs.
These ears aren't keen, especially when followed by Bjork, who demonstrates admirably how to produce perfectly mad stuff.
If you make a cover, either improve on the original which is often quite hard to do. Or make a radical interpretation on it. This one really works for me, nice job!
She's reading me, I was only joking when I thought ''let see who's crying'' she managed to end up in manger, and finished at the same time with smart alecky ''you will laugh and I will cry.''
This works for me far better than the original, the orchestration (especially the strings) really drive the feel. Stunning development of the original piece, from a slightly more general viewpoint.

That's what makes RP great and what makes the discussion boards a major part of the enjoyment we get from the site — putting aside the great music mix, of course (and excuse the royal we, but I think I'm speaking to the converted).

Not me!
This is how one does a cover - complete reinvention of the song. Like Devo's Satisfaction, Bryan Ferry's Like a Hurricane, etc. There was once a band called Jackpot in CA out of Sacramento I believe. Anyway, they did this downtempo version of Hell's Bells that was brilliant. It would always catch everyone off guard because they wouldn't recognize it until the chorus. Done at about 1/4 speed.
Really happy when this comes on.  Brilliant, touching.

bit of a gimmick isn't it?
I love the original, I think this needs a couple more listens before I can give it a good rating ... it feels wishy washy so far. Still, much braver cover than I'd do!

I just listened to the BS version, and I think the main difference (besides the obvious ones) is that the way Ozzy sings it, it just sounds like the ravings of a disturbed individual.  Whereas the way the woman in Hellsongs sings it, it becomes more like a universal cry of despair, in response to the kinds of setbacks and frustrations that most or all people face in life.
This song is interesting only because it's a cover. Probably wouldn't like it at all if I weren't already familiar with the original.

Some songs are all about the performance of the band and producer (the style) rather than the inherent refinement of the music and lyric (the content), and Paranoid, it is revealed by this rendition, falls rather under par with regard to its content.

This is no more than a gimmick, it adds nothing, in my view, to my appreciation of the song (compared with, say, Katie Melua's version of Just Like Heaven, or even Lily Allen's Naive), and fails to tickle my fancy in any way towards the band. I betcha, though, that Black Sabbath could have done a cracking job on Rebecca Black's Friday Night. Wow, I'd pay to hear that!

Yeah, this doesn't have staying power...a little too slow and dirge-y the 3rd-4th time around. Although it's interesting to hear this version. Was never a fan of the original or Ozzy's madman schtick.
She's no Ozzie

Ah, a song about that girl on Facebook desperately trying to find someone that will listen to her sad stories about an abuse a long time ago and her failed attempts to make something of her life because the world around her do not understand her feelings and hyperintelligent thinking.

No, it's actually a song written by the members of Black Sabbath in 1970 - long before Facebook's founder was even born.  Interesting version.
Brave cover.  Would much rather listen to someone's unique take on a song than some trumpet banging out a straight copy.
Question. Suppose I wanted to help you in this endeavor. How would I go about doing so?
Always glad when this is over. (Still waiting. Any minute now. COME ON ALREADY!)
While I was in Canada (spring/summer 2011) I heard a cover of this song by a local rock band (i think it was aired on Cold Lake's radio station) and it was far more superior to this one. It was somewhere half way between the mood of this rendition and the original. I wish i could find it....
No song is sacrosanct (well........) but to cover this in this way is just wrong, awful, boring etc etc
Don't know. First time I've heard this. Sounds pretty good to me. Give it a 7.
But then, I don'no art; only know what I like...
While at work, I had this at a 3.  I usually don't rate songs that low, but it rubbed me the wrong way.  Now I'm at home after a long day but still working, listening through headphones with a glass of scotch, and I'm bumping up to a 6.  Still not a great song, but not as intolerable as the first time I heard it.

YES!
Some covers just shouldn't be made.
let's not do this
Boring and droll. Mediocre Music and Vapid lyrics. Downer tune.
I liked this the first time i heard it (8)... the novelty is wearing off (7)
Sabath it ain't, but I like it.  Weird, but somehow it works.
Bill, please help me occupy my brain with something else!

Can  you help me occupy my brain?  Well, John Malkovich found out the hard way that's not a lot of fun.
Arbeit macht frei, Pendulous.

Face it: If this song were the "original", you'd gag on it, but it gets extra consideration because it's a unique treatment of an original.

I'd say fortunately. Take away the driving heavy rock of the Sabbath original and you do have some pretty basic lyrics. I really like this cover, and IMO it's a major improvement on the clichéd original. 8 from the Nottingham jury.

You'd have to ask Ozzy Osborne and Geezer Butler about that.  You may need an interpreter to communicate with Ozzy.  Not a bad version...once in a while.

Gawdawful.
Whoa.  Her voice, the sparse instrumentation, and these lyrics combine to make something special.  Not sure if it's good or just plain scary.
This is pretty good, but my favorite of theirs is the cover of Iron Maiden - Run to the Hills
I think the treatment of the song is ironic. Irony is totally awesome!!!!
It's on a par with Hurt by Johnny cash
This sort of thing works well in some cases (check out Nouvelle Vague - great versions of some classics inc. 'Love Will Tear Us Apart') but this particular song doesn't do it for me.

Where's the original when you really want to hear it - will have to go back to the shelves of CD's!
I'm sorry, but this is too much like Richard Cheese!
This is sweet, although I guess it shouldn't be.  8

I, for one, never heard of the original but liked this immediately. I went back to hear the original and found it "interesting"—and enlightening of why I never heard of it! (I really like that Hellsongs put this out.)
I thought this was Anna Ternheim......but listening to the lyrics I for sure relate totally........
I had no idea this was not an original version........its my life sung over and over

Took me awile to fiqure this out.
It's hard to believe I first fell in love with this song 40 years ago!  This version was a complete (and pleasant) surprise!

Absolutely my favorite version of this tune.  My theme song.
Really love this creative cover - 8
This is the best version of this song I've ever heard.
10+

yes...took me a while to realise that it was a cover....I still prefer the original, but completely different listening moods.

Occupy her brain? I thought we were occupying Wall Street?

I burned this whole CD and listened to it the other day - very impressive! Especially this song, "Blackened," "Symphony of Destruction," and "Seasons in the Abyss".  Just like this cut, really makes you focus on the meaning of the lyrics.

I loved that Tori cover... wasn't Trent Reznor singing in the background?  Doesn't really matter, it was great.

This, on the other hand is good, but not great.  Solid 6.

Mildly on topic, but have you heard the Ahmet & Dweezil Zappa cover of "Baby, One More Time"?  Never thought I'd enjoy - let alone adore - even a covered version of that song...

On topic...wow, that's a download.

yay.  The first song you've played this morning that hasn't completely stank.  I didn't even detract points for the vw van on the cover.
Excellent.  Turns headbanger metal into a poignant cry for help.
Go Sweden, go!
nice!!! It's good to hear some originality when covering a song :)

Hard to believe that's NOT Anna Ternheim.
Oh, another new one for me. Digging this. I guess I like some Lounge music, I can admit it.
Nice, sounds a bit like Gus Black's version
Brilliant

Excellent.

i found myself singing the lyrics before i could even place the song.
This is a cool little version of this.  Nice change from the overplayed 70's song

Oh, he does. The Psychic Playlist. {#Lol}

I really like this, think it's very cool. BUT I think it would be much more enjoyable if the melody was just a smidgen closer to the original.

I thought it might be Anna Ternheim singing.  Took me awhile to recognize the lyrics!  Interesting cover.
great healing!
best cover version I've ever heard!!! I love this so much!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, this is a terrific remake - they make it their own.
Hey! I can understand the lyrics!
Think this is weird, you should hear their version of Twisted Sisters We're not gonna take it!{#Eek}  Their Iron Maiden Run to the Hills is very good.{#Yes}
Best cover version I've ever heard! (10)
Really very good. I also had no idea. pffff sabbath {#Frustrated}  7.

Amazing cover ... I have a new respect for the song now
Creepy vocals, ug.  I wish she'd cover Rat Salad instead.

And why is a song about love, happiness and contentment on a collection of "Hellsongs"?

To each her own I guess.  This is good but nothing close to the Sabbath version.
Not my taste, boring!

Like this, BTW.  Like it a lot.

STRANGE.......stick with the original
Weird. I was just working on editing one of my photos to make it look like a Black Sabbath album cover, when this song comes on.

Can a boy band really have a "classic" song, considering that most "classic rock" was written more than 10 years before the Jonas Brothers were born?

The Jonas Brothers have a song named "Paranoid" but it is not the same as the Black Sabbath song of the same name.  This song by Hellsongs covers the Black Sabbath version (thank, um, goodness).

I not familiar with that, but this is good.

I was thinking, what a cool line, "can you help me occupy my brain".  Took many minutes before I figured out it was Black Sabbath!
Wow. I ***HATED*** the other song from this album that was played the other day (Seasons in the Abyss), but this was pretty good. 7
Wow! I gave it an 8 for creativity. No way do I like it as much as the original. But it's pretty awesome all the same - and especially in the context of a cover version.
Ballsy!
In case you're wondering, yes, they do War Pigs as well.
Ah, doi. It's a cover of a classic Jonas Brothers song.
