We're walking close to Paradise
And more than other days
Yes, I'm walking closer and closer
But not close enough
Yes, I'm walking closer and closer
But not close enough

Waking morning sunshine burns
'Cause you fall from where your felt you are
And you're running faster and faster
Oh, but the days they ain't slowing down
And don't you, don't you wanna be there, there right now

Yes, I'm walking closer and closer
But not close enough
Yes, I'm walking closer and closer
To Paradise
We'll promise that
To Paradise
We'll promise that

Hey lovely people down there
Let's fill that hole up in the sky
Don't be afraid to care
I'm sure you'll find yourself there
Hey lovely people down there
Let's fill that hole up in the sky
Don't be afraid to care
I'm sure you'll find yourself there

I'm sure you'll find yourself there
When you're down, hold on
I'm sure you'll find yourself there
When you're down, hold on
I'm sure you'll find yourself there

Close, close to Paradise

I really hear the (Meddle-era) Pink Floyd that you mentioned in another post. It's the piano and guitars creating a slow march.
Wouldn't be RadioParadise without this song...
Picked this CD up recently. On almost every other track he sounds exactly like Jeff Buckley. Just an fyi.

Wow, I haven't heard this is a long while.
...why haven't we heard of of patrick watson's new album on radio paradise?!.
Every time I see the name Patrick Watson, I start thinking of the guy that played Bobby Ewing on the TV show Dallas.  I know it was Patrick Duffy, but I still think get them confused.

Yea, it actually sounds like Floyd with Gilmour only running the show, not so much.{#No}
Is it just me or does this song sound a whole lot like Badly Drawn Boy? Every time it comes on I think it's Badly Drawn Boy ... but no. :-)

I too, can hear the Elton John comparisons, but it is weaker then the more obvious similarities. Good ear, Nate.

excellent advice, fredriley.

Yes, but that does not make this not good.
If he sounded "just like" Floyd, then he would suck, and we could call him "The Machine".

Yes, very much a Pink Floyd / Gilmour derivative.  That's why I can only give it an 8.  It doesn't have to be a "true original" to be enjoyed.  Originality is a factor, but not the only one.
Bit of a dirge... I see what you mean by the Pink Floyd comparisons, but somehow their stuff was just...better.

I heard another one of his songs somewhere where he sounded like a mix of radiohead and the fleet foxes... I guess he's just an easily influenced fellow {#Wink} I don't mind though, I like his stuff.

I don't know, I think I'm hearing Deep Purple's "Space Truckin'".
Meddlish (PF)
So everyone thinks he sounds like Pink Floyd, ELO, Jeff Buckley, et al. At least it's a group of excellent artists. Just think if it was (insert list of your least favorite artists here). :-)

yeah, OK - he sounds like Pink Floyd a bit, but I'm not sure that is such a bad thing.  I've worn all those discs out - I like hearing something new that is also a little familiar.  I may have to pick this one up.
Outtake from Pink Floyd's Meddle album?

I have to say this is a bit unfair , while he's definitely got the Gilmore-ish 'dreamtime' guitar fantasm going on, if you don't hear Jeff Buckley... you should listen again.

That pounding riff was what caught my attention as well, and agree with the old school Floyd vocals.

This young artist from Montréal - so close - has tremendious insight and turns it into some good sound emotion.
Their new cd 'wooden arms' is a good buy !
this doesn't sound too much like a most famous late 60s group does it?

That's not a comment on this song, I kind of like this song.

Don't take this guy just for who he sounds like - sure there's lots of influences audible in this album, but whoever anyone sounds like - it's either gonna be good or crap. This album is actually really good and one of the best I heard in 2008.

{#Motor} Yes, it is close to radio paradise!

There's only one Jeff Buckley - and thankfully he's not around to torture us with new material.  Why would anyone feel the need to try to copy his emetic warblings?

Sort of a perfect title for this joint, no?

Another album I've not been able to get using Zune Pass.  Anyone have the whole thing so that they can tell me if its worth buying in the real world?

I'll buy that for a dollar (whatever that means...)  I checked out AMG's entry and was most surprised to see that they don't cite Pink Floyd as an influence, similar band or anything.  Wha?  Maybe the other songs are nothing like this one?

They love a good old stuffing to vindicate their intractable pessimism and loathe it when they've nowt to moan about. You wonder why they pay good money and waste their valuable time to watch a team they slag off week in, week out, until you realise that they pay good money *precisely* so that they can give all sorts of grief out, as by paying their gate money they feel they have a 'right' to spit blood at 'their' team. I wouldn't be at all surprised if yer man is a regular supporting listener of RP despite his relentlessly negative comments and low ratings (someone found that over 20% of his ratings were 1).

Funny, I've always suspected Excelsior to be a 10 or 12 year old kid fooling around on the internet when he should be doing homework.  His online commentary is the internet equivalent of placing a fart cushion on someone's chair or knocking on neighbours' doors and hiding when they answer.  I think he's just trying to get a rise out of people This is why I don't take him (her?) too seriously and suspect that eventually he or she will not only grow up but become an avid and appreciable RP listener!

This is a brilliant album. If you like this song, you'll be spellbound by the wide canvasses of this album. It's actually possible to think that if Jeff Buckley was still alive, this is the sort of albums he might be making. It's that good. Thanks RP - where I heard Patrick Watson first.

So, yes, he's a troll, but on the plus side I'm sure it does him a lot of good, psychologically, to vent his spleen on these boards, and we should indulge him as a form of 'care in the community' ;-)

And believe it or not, I actually read a positive comment from him last week. I should have framed it.

Dear KitKat,

Many listeners, and even Bill himself  — refer to this thread https://www.radioparadise.com/content.php?name=songinfo&song_id=40757  —   have wondered why certain people listen to RP if they hate everything that plays here. It is one of the great mysteries of life.

Every time this song comes on I think "This must be a My Morning Jacket song."  Then the singing comes in and the song doesn't even compare to them.

Yeah, it's getting a little over played now too.

So did this guy, at some point, legally change his name to "Indie Artist Patrick Watson" ?

Because I have yet to hear a standalone "Patrick Watson."

As for the song, I like how it starts off, very reminiscent of Echoes-era Pink Floyd, as many have noted.

It then descends into random wailing a la Jeff Buckley, which is when I reach for the mute button.
