Great mix BillG!! How about ‘Take the A Train’?
those days you could just hop on a train and with a cigar in one hand and glass of whisky in the other you are off to San Francisco  for some fun only to continue in few weeks  to the rich gold fields of California

These dudes rock!

Love the mix of tunes...just like the old FM radio I grew up with...thank you...
Look at me - I'm dancin' I'm dancin'!

this is why i found RP to really be a paradise and i've turned on a lot of people onto it. i hope they're supporting the effort better than me. having said that, i always feel a bit sheepish rating songs here.

at best we are bill's guests and he's sharing his playlists with us. that is our privilege.

so it seems to be a bit presumptuous to rate the song - it's rather moot. i'd never rate a song at a buddy's playing. i might comment on it, but good god never judge. i've changed my mind too much. thanks bill.

I don't put so much importance on the ratings. For me the ratings are simply "how much do I enjoy the song" and I like having this cause I can click on my profile, look thru my top rated songs, it almost makes a nifty little shopping list for new music, Pandora seeds, or whatever. It's just handy.
Sheepish does not mean posting an awesome comment like that and expressing yourself! H-E-L-L-O... that's what brings us together here at RP.  Sheep are followers, not leaders... why one or two smart dogs with the right whistles and loving supervision can control hundreds of them for the shephard.  I've seen sheep dogs at work... most enthralling... but you most certainly do NOT want to be a sheep. Rock on :)

I love it when you "get in your moods", Bill !!!  Joni, String Cheese, Paddy and now Fats!!  Great morning here at the office!!  Thanks!!
Fats does Gershwin pretty well.
One of the greatest. Not just as a stride pianist but as a singer, songwriter, storyteller and all around great entertainer.
Sheer genius.

I think it was The Happenings, who also did "See You In September".

It just occured to me that when this was released I could probably fit the entire recorded musical output of the world on a iPod Nano.

Amen, ditto, and right-you-are! "Honeysuckle Rose" by Fats & His Rhythm is now working through the LRC at the moment; let's hope it makes it too!

Well, that's cool music, but the quality of the recording is lousy. Of course its lousy, because it is a histrorical recording, but still it annoys me more than the jazz enjoys me.
Hmm. I LIKE the "old jazz" quality of the recording. For some reason, the muffled sound adds to the whole feeling of the tune. Not sure why, but I would rather hear it like this than some crystal clear, digital re-mastered version.

Thanks RP for giving us such great extremes. :sunny.gif:
I love the ways you guys sneak this stuff in .. I would have never expected to hear this on your station! WAY TO GO!
I have this track. And its great. GO BILL!!
Audio amphetamine! This is amazing.
Lovin' it--trying to stay awake at job #2 today and this just did the trick. I can continue on with accounting for another hour or so now! :) This is why I love RP--always something wonderfully unexpected to get me going.
Yowsah! Swinging music is swinging music - doesn't matter what time it was made. It would be sweet to follow this with some Art Tatum ('Tiger Rag' for example) - as Fats said when Tatum walked into a club he was playing ' I play piano, but god is in the house.' Good one Bill - this is why I listen to RP. - Riff P.S. Only on RP will I hear Wall of Voodoo and Ani DiFranco in the same set with Fats!
Well aaaaallll-right!

the rock and roll of its day!
Hard to imagine that Gershwin went from Tin Pan Alley to Porgy and Bess. Talk about enduring genius.....GG puts contemporary hit makers in perspective.
Well, that's cool music, but the quality of the recording is lousy. Of course its lousy, because it is a histrorical recording, but still it annoys me more than the jazz enjoys me. And I enjoy this much, so imagine how much this lousy quality annoys me.
Always worthwhile to take a listen way back in time . . . great musicians.
when this started off, it reminded me of a Spike Jones piece....how 'bout some Spike now and then, Bill?
Hell yeah! More jazz, please Bill
Wow! \\:D/
