City girls they're all right
They just want you for the night
But when the morning comes at dawn
City girls they all gone

You know the daylight can be sad
When you feel that you've been had
Only night time brings the price
City girl she thinks it's right

What's a poor boy going to do
If he wants a girl like you
Can't afford no diamond rings
Or all those other fancy things

Only one thing I can give
A song down where you live
I'll sing to you hear the sound
City girl please stay around

Me going to Wikipedia to look up City Girls:

For the Chris Brown and Young Thug song, see City Girls (song).

City Girls is an American hip hop duo consisting of Yung Miami (Caresha Romeka Brownlee; born February 11, 1994)[1] and JT (Jatavia Shakara Johnson;[2][3] born December 3, 1992),

Chet influenced a LOT of guitarists in all genres!
this is where Mark Knopfler learned guitar
This may have been the first song that I ever heard J.J. Cale sing, it was popular on the radio.  I love J.J. Cale.  While this my first, it wasn't his best for me. Every song he did is equal or greater.  God Bless that man!  Miss him so much!
happy

Smooth synthesizer harmonies + country guitar + tight reverb = Always means it's 1981-1982.

So many people hearing other songs in this. I hear George McCrae's Rock Your Baby.
an upbeat 'good time charlie's got the blues' - they both are lovely to hear
Anyone else hearing Blondie - Heart Of Glass?
I love it when a song comes on RP that makes me walk in from the other room to see who it is. City Girls by JJ Cale.

... and me too.
When this song starts, I always think it's going to be the Amazing Rhythm Ace's "The End Is Not in Sight". I'd love to hear that one too.
Yee haw!  Kuos to RP for the breath of music.
Tune inn from
nice tune!

Awe, swing dancing, boot scooting, twirling, and swizzling beer.  The good ole' days in those Country and Western honkey tonks.
BEAUTIFUL SONGWRITER

But it's driving me crazy — where have I heard it before?  Jive Talkin'?

probably not what you were hearing...although my first thoughts are this track sounds sorta like Leo Sayer's "More Than I Can Say" - which is one of those pop tunes I LOVE because of fond memories with my mom; in fact it was one of the songs at her funeral.

I've got this cool JJ track at a 7 currently...heck I'm gonna bump it to an 8 right now knowing the rest of the album is great!. LONG LIVE RP!

Long may you run.

this entire album is amazing.  if you are not sure about j.j. - don't let this song decide for you.  buy this cd used from amazon and you'll see what i mean, and then you'll realize that this song fits to the album.

Absolutely!
I've tried not to hear it, really I have.  I can't help it ...

"If I said you had a beautiful body ....."

Sorry.
Maybe it's the Florida cracker in me but I like his pickin'.  An 8 from me.

Pick up "The Breeze" if you are in a mood for some more J.J.Cale music.  It's fine.

"After midnight", too

Great songwriter. He will be missed for that anyway!
RIP JJ. Loved your music since the '70's and still get pleasure from listening to you.

Did the art director quit before this was released? WTF is the point of that text treatment?

Ive always heard about JJ Cale and what a legend and an influence he is and how respected by the greats. But honestly I dont enjoy his music at all. The people he influenced? Absolutely.

some girls?
...or you could have just played Jay-Z, and gotten it over with, Bill!

J.J. Cale - City Girls
Bruce Springsteen - Girls in Their Summer Clothes
Mike Doughty - Sunken-Eyed Girl
Wow... how about segueing into May I? by Kevin Ayers, on the same theme...?
Wow, that's scary....

I usually really like JJ Cale's music but this song does nothing for me.
Pulled from the vaults? Nice segue...
My sister likes J.J. Cale and I love my sister. Her musical taste, tough, has gotten pretty strange. Sorry sis. Just not my thing.
Your sister has excellent taste :nodhead: :nodhead:

Nice guitar work - sounds a lot like Mark Knoffler's Sultan's of Swing. You have to appreciate JJ for his immense songwriting talent that has been capitalized on by so many artists including Mr. Clapton, among others.
this song has a nice vibe. everything hangs together nicely. thought for a moment that it was a cover of a song by CRACKER. enjoy.
