RIP Andy, you will be greatly missed.
I bought this album (obviously) for their hit song Enjoy the Silence back in those days, but was overwhelmed by the intensity of the whole album.
Definitely in my top 10 best albums of all time.
(whereas there older work isn't really my cup of tea)

I like how certain groups can grow on you (and mostly thanks to RP) as Depeche Mode, Radiohead, heck, even the Smiths, all have tunes I can dig nowadays whereas if you asked me back in 2000 say, I would have given an immediate "SUCKO-BARFO" response.
Now all I gotta do is start liking DMB and the Quadfecta of "bands I used to despise" will be complete. Probably not gonna happen - still NEVER say NEVER (other than when saying "Never say Never" of course.)
And not knowing a lot about DM's music, I can't tell if this was the "end of the 80s" for the group or not. It sounds so very 80s to me, and that might have something to do with my dislike for the group over the last 25+ years. LONG LIVE RP and PEACE TOO!!!
Depeche Mode is fabulous, and I say that as someone just barely too young for the band to have any nostalgia value.
Sounds like they just pumped the groove out of Kraftwerk's "Tour de France".

Though this song I like it's not at the top of the list. This album is definitely a top tier. Great album.

I like these guys, they just played here in Lima (Peru, not Ohio), sold out w/in weeks.
Had this on my workout playlist for a while, had to drop it. The beat works ok, but a little too dark to keep me running/rowing/lifting.

Saw DM in Chicago a couple months ago when they played to a crowd of about fifty thousand. It (honestly) was incredible. I was lucky to get a spot just in front of the sound board booth at the center. I was blown away. They were amazing and the production was world class. I listened to theses guys when I was a kid and new wave was still "new". I never imagined I would get to see them for real and even if I had — I never would have pictured a presentation of that quality. One for the memoirs.

Dave is massively confident and just having fun on stage as performer (Martin struggles with stage presence but gets through it and is well-loved by audience). Seen them twice recently. Dave is one of the most on-pitch, on-time vocalists I've seen live (been a concert-goer of a multitude of bands since 1980). Absolutely outstanding shows -- amazing visuals, bombastic sound, intense energy.
