Yellow moon, yellow moon,
Why you keep peeping in my window?
Do you know something I don't know?
Did you see my baby
Walking down the railroad tracks?
You can tell me if the girls
Ever coming back.
Is she hid out with another
Or is she trying to get back home?
Is she wrapped up in some other's arms?
Or is the girl somewhere all alone?
Can you see if she is missing me,
Or is she having a real good time?
Has she forgotten all about,
Or is the girl still mine all mine?

With your eye so big a shiney
You can see the whole damn land
Yellow moon can you tell me
If the girl's with another man?

Oh yellow moon,
Have you seen that creole woman
You can tell me,
Now ain't you a friend of mine.

With your eye so big a shiney
You can see the whole damn land
Yellow moon can you tell me
If the girl's with another man?

Oh yellow moon,
Have you seen that creole woman
You can tell me,
Now ain't you a friend of mine.

Aaron Neville had some 80s hits, sure, but this is WAY better than any of those.
Definitely some Little Feat vibe there.  Better guitar, though.
Used to deal with Charles and Aaron way back in the late 80's and early 90's. Both were very nice, and Charles' wife was adorably Hippy
EXCELLENT!!   Thanx RP!
my FAVORITE Neville Brothers tune - best live!
Man’s voice was created to sing, no matter how you feel about all other parts of a Neville Bro’s song.

Okay - I tried to interpret this comment via Babelfish (which is a total JOKE) and I still can't get the meaning. Could someone (preferrably zenmumu) put it into English for me? I figure that since it starts with "No," it's probably not going to be positive, but I'd still like to know what's been written. I'm horribly language-illiterate, but I hope that doesn't make me come across as a racist. I just can't seem to grasp other languages. But I give really good hugs, and that counts for something, doesn't it?{#Curtain}

It's something to the effect of  "I can't handle the trumpets...they stress me out"

It's so poignant to see one of Cynaera's posts quoted today. And I feel  a bit foolish replying, but Google translate yields this result for
"zenmumu wrote:No puedo con las trompetas... como me estresan:"

"I can't handle the trumpets ... how they stress me out"

RIP, sweet soul!

Miss this band so much. Their live shows were like no other!

Yeah, the horns on the version of Congo Square on the same album are something I cannot abide.

I'm OK with the sax on this one though - it almost grates, but doesn't quite cross the line.

And that sousaphone bassline is just sublime. Saves the track, IMO.

FYI: these guys do a killer version of Dylan's: :God on our Side".
Reminds me of my early 20s. These guys were on heavy rotation during the early 1990s for me
Insensitive, hence comment deleted prior to posting.
How's that for PC?

Who knew the Neville Brothers recorded with Little Feat? (ridiculously perfect segue from the end of LF's Spanish Moon to....NB's Yellow Moon!!)

What trumpets?  I hear an organ.  And a saxophone.

Neil

Sounds like every other one of their songs. Which I guess is good if you like them, but if you don't…

Thank you, zenmumu! I agree - the trumpets sort of make me tense instead of relaxing me.  Sorry I'm so language-challenged! The song did make me dance, though...{#Bounce}

Echo that... If that version (on the Yellow Moon album) was played I would give it a 10.  It just never gets old for me.

great album ~ and btw if you are the one that stole my Navy Pier boot ~ kiss my ass

bleh - the hackneyed crescendo of hammer-ons at the end makes me cringe. . .

That freak out guitar playing is very Hendrix circa Band of Gypsy's influenced.  Love it.

What good is them hitting the notes if I can't stand the voice??? Are not entertainers creating and performing music to entertain the listener??? If I hate it, what do I care how difficult it is to hit the notes? I appreciate that Aaron Neville can hit notes that I can never dream of, having said that I do not make millions for crooning suck ass songs!!{#Puke}
I don't care what is playing behind him, I cannot abide by Aaron Neville!{#No}
Bobbing head...
great song.  I'd give the studio version a 9.
the touch...the feel...the fabric of our lives.
Just saw these guys with Dr. John about a month ago! What a GREAT show!!! They all still rock in a Big Way! We so need this kind of music right now!
What a groove.  Concur that we need more N'Awlins type stuff like this and Dr John.

There's also a great live version of this song on an Austin City Limits CD called Big Blues Extravaganza.

Srsly. Sometimes I want to tell him: "Dude, knock it off. Sing like you did on 'Tell It Like It Is'."

WHOA! That guitar-sax freakout ain't on the studio version. WOWEEE!!

Before Aaron's voice got ridiculously wavering. Great stuff!
I'm two blocks south of Congo Square and there's a Yellow Moon..
Whoa, that funky sax solo got me boppin' in my chair at work! Awesome!
Great spare funky bassline!!!
Yes I saw them live at Tipitina's. A life changing experience. Anyone out there an eMusic.com subscriber? They just added a pile of unreleased and forgotten New Orleans funk from the 60s and 70s. Awesome!
Very nice!
Keep this stuff coming.
I love those New Orleans rhythms!! Let's hear some Meters!!!

I didn't really know who these guys were when at a concert, Bill Graham came onstage to introduce "the fabulous Neville Brothers" Then then proceeded to bring down the house. This was one of the memorable songs they performed that evening.

how about an alblum only with 45 minutes of funky guitarr. Funky guitarr. simply a cool sound. and the electric organ doesn't do any harm either.

According to himself 90% (although I think the actual number is likely much higher) of what he says is crap.

There are a number of live versions of this tune, of which is the second best. If you can find it, there's a live version from Austin City Limits that is a real butt-kicker.

My FAVORITE Neville Brothers tune! I have always longed to go to the New Orleans Jazzfest. I have heard about it for years and have talked about going with some friends for a couple of years now. When, if ever, will the Jazzfest be back? I hear that the fairgrounds where this was held was underwater with the rest of the city. How sad. The Nevilles are great! :D
I have been to Jazzfest twice and it's an experience like no other. Hot, humid, crazy, fun. Local and national acts, something IMO not to be missed. Want to take my kids there at some point. And miraculously, the show is to go on this year!

My wife and I went to JazzFest a few years back and it rained the whole weekend! I mean the track at the JazzFest grounds was one big mudpit and people were just sliding all over the place - some on purpose, some not :) Anyway, the Neville Brothers were the last act on Sunday evening and during their show the rain finally stopped. We were all really digging the tunes and Aaron's soulful voice and having a grand time. As he began to sing the last song, Amazing Grace, the sun appeared below the clouds and bathed us all in a golden glow. Talk about amazing grace - it still sends shivers up my spine just thinking about it.

Sublime. Keep that N.O. groove rolling... I went out with a girl who would pounce on me whenever I played this song (studio version actually). She said it was one of the sexiest song she'd ever heard.

this song is way overplayed, live or otherwise, for its dubious merits
Always reminded me of \"Cane Fire\" by the Peter Moon band. Haven\'t a clue why, but since you\'re in HI, it just might go with the set.

Excellent challenge Phaedra, exactly like those we have come to expect from our beloved BCNH. You should pose this question to the comment board.
Here's a moon for ya: Dot
I really like this, not really sure why, the song just works really well for me.
Makes you get up, get it moving, and get gone.
