Weval is one Dutch dj and music-production duo out Amsterdam, comprising Harm Coolen and Merijn Scholte-Albers. They make electronic music with influences from deephouse, pop, soul and funk.

The duo met during a birthday in a café Utrecht. Their first collaboration was filming and producing one music video for a friend of Coolen. During this project, their focus gradually shifted to producing music, leading to the official beginning of their collaboration in 2010.

Their first musical editions came in the form of ep's, including Half Age in 2013. This year they also gave their first live performance at Pitch, a festival in Amsterdam. In 2014 the song became Detian from the EP Half Age used in an advertisement from Schweppes with Penelope Cruz, as a result, the song ended up at number 5 in the French iTunes Electronics Top 100. Two months later the remix which they made of Gui Boratto's new single Take Control first place in the Beatport Electronics Top 100. The same year Weval released the EP Easier out, followed by It'll Be Just Fine/Grow Up in 2015.

In 2016 they released their self-titled debut album Weval out, which received good reviews from publications such as Pitchfork, and gave them international visibility. With their second album, The Weight, released in 2019 at Kompakt, Weval began exploring new styles, expanding their electronic base with influences from soul and funk. This was followed by the EP Changed for the Better in 2021 and the EP Time Goes in 2022, both released with the label Ninja Tune. In 2023, Weval released their third album Remember off at the label. The duo's music has also been used in television series over the years Good Girls (as of 2018), Industry (as of 2020) and I May Destroy You (2020).

Weval released the EP in 2024 Night Versions out. At the beginning of 2025, the duo announced that they would follow a new musical course, characterized by faster tempos and a more energetic, dance floor-oriented sound, partly inspired by their experiences as DJs. This development was reflected, among other things, in the single Dopamine, which at a rate of approximately 144 BPM was considerably faster than their previous work. Shortly after, the duo announced their fourth studio album Chorophobia on, which will be released on September 5, 2025 via the Technicolour label. According to Weval, the album marks a conscious shift towards a more extroverted style, centering on club structures and higher BPMs. The title Chorophobia refers to their previous hesitation to be classified as a pure dance act. The single released in May 2025 Justfriends illustrates this new musical direction.
