Just my lowly opinion but I still think The Allman Brothers was the best southern rock band. Yes, even better than Skynard.
I agree soooo much.
Wow, That Dickey B guitar and Chuck L on piano. This really is a smoker.
I Agree!

Hah, your comment was written on my birthday, it was a Friday, today is a Friday, and my foot is tapping. Happy Friday to all!!!!!!
Once again it is Friday afternoon. Way to get the party started
I have one criticism of this song...It isn't long enough!
You are right but at sometime they had to end it.

Duh! No shit...
RIP Gregg, Duane and Butch, yinz guys just plain ROCKED!!!
My gosh...that's what RnR is all about.

very funny
One of the best 'jam bands' ever.
I'm old, but never saw them live until Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes were holding it down with Greg. And of course Susan Tedeschi made a cameo (this was before her and Derek were publicly an "item"). One of THE BEST SHOWS I've ever been to in my life.
Well I'm Southbound, baby, Lord I'm comin' home to you
I got that old lonesome feelin' that's sometimes called the blues
Well I been workin' every night, travelin' every day
Oh, I been workin' every night, traveling every day
Oh you can tell your other man, sweet daddy's on the way
Aww, ya better believe
Well I'm Southbound
Whoa I'm Southbound
Oh you better tell your other man, sweet daddy's on his way
Got your hands full now baby, as soon as I hit that door
You'll have your hands full now woman, just as soon as I hit that door
Well I'm gonna make it on up to you for all the things you should have had before
Lord, I'm Southbound
Oh I'm Southbound, baby
Whoa I'm Southbound, yeah baby
Well I'm gonna make it on up to you for all the things you should have had before
Only two of them left....Dicky and Jai Johanny...
We just cranked up the volume and started shagging... love it...
You didn't say who and how you were shagging. Do you have any pictures?

"What I already knew"? Oh, please.
So you hung with Gregg and Dickey extensively in the 70s and heard both sides, I'm sure.
Maybe start your comment with "In my highly biased opinion, based on no actual facts . . ."

definitely enjoyed it but it confirmed what I already knew: Gregg Allman is a narcissistic prick unwilling to share credit or tolerate the success of others...........namely DICKEY BETTS!

The guitar work is soooooo good. You can get high on it.

Mountain Jam is based on the Donovan original "There is a Mountain".
I first heard Mountain Jam in Miami in 1970 when they had a malfunction in the vocal section of their show. They played it for an hour til the PA got fixed. And they were just the warm up for Spirit. What a great show !!!!
Others that did Mountain Jam:
Donovan
Grateful Dead

Too bad I'm not "southbound " though. still gotta deal with the snow.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian award in the U.S. It recognizes those individuals who have made "an especially meritorious contribution to the ... cultural or other significant public or private endeavors."
If they didn't, perhaps they should've.
Thanks RedGuitar. I catch up 9 months later....
FWIW, I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment.
You must be going at it hammer and tongs with the speed of that backbeat. Watch you don't give yourself a heart attack, guy :o)
Nice, back to basics blues, the sort that never ages. Great stuff. 8 from the Nottingham jury.
King Crimson also does the two drummer thing.

King Crimson also does the two drummer thing.
So what is the highest honour that the USA can bestow on her citizens? Did the Allman Brothers band members ever receive that reward?

Their last great album, IMO.
Jelly, Jelly, Jelly . . .
Great tune, nonetheless, although they were never the same after Duane's death.
Great stuff!!!
