On a pool around the evening
Among the perfumed roses
Wait for her
With the patience of a packhorse
Loaded for the mountains
Like a stoic, noble prince
Wait for her
With seven pillows laid out on the stair
The scent of womens' incense fills the air
Be calm, and wait for her
And do not flush the sparrows
That are nesting in her braids
All along the barricades
Wait for her
And if she comes soon
Wait for her
And if she comes late
Wait
Let her be still as a summer afternoon
A garden in full bloom
Let her breathe in the air
That is foreign to her heart
Let her lips part
Wait for her
Take her to the balcony, see the moon soaked in milk
Hear the rustle of her silk
Wait for her
Don't let your eyes alight upon the twin doves of her breast
Lest they take flight
Wait for her
And if she comes soon
Wait for her
And if she comes late
Wait
Serve her water before wine
Do not touch her hand
Let your fingertips rest as her command
Speak softly as a flute would to a fearful violin
Breathe out, breathe in
And as the echo fades from that final fusillade
Remember the promises you made
sometimes ignorance is a bliss..
So, it turns out the dreary, pretentious old Bombastic Stoner was a friend of Putins after all.
Here are his "thoughts" on continued aide to Ukraine
expressed in a letter to the wife of President Zelensky:
“I guess that might depend on what you mean by ‘support for Ukraine’? If by ‘support for Ukraine’ you mean the West continuing to supply arms to the Kiev government’s armies, I fear you may be tragically mistaken,” he wrote.
Waters went on to accuse the United States of having a vested interest in extending the war and said “extreme nationalists” in Ukraine were violating “any number of red lines that had been set out quite clearly over a number of years by your neighbors the Russian Federation,” putting Ukraine “on the path to this disastrous war” — Roger Waters
Well, well, well, if that ain't blaming the victim then what is?

"So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?"
Yes, I can, but it seems that the author no longer can.
I find it hard to separate the artist from his art. I used to love Waters
in Pinkf fl Floyd and solo. Now, observing Waters' attitude to war and Putin, I can no longer enjoy his art.
Boo!
My parents owned a book of his poems, which I was encouraged to read as a child. It was over my head. I should re-read them as an adult. (my father and his family were driven from their farm the same year as Mahmoud Darwish's family)
Yeah....
Do give Final Cut a listen. It has amazing moments.
Funny (seeing your post), every time I hear this track I think I'm listening to the Final Cut. It might as well have been on that album
Roger
I wouldn’t rank this as anywhere near his best work, tho, it’s repetitive and….imma just say it: boring (to me).
He’s gifted me with enough of “10”s that he can withstand (and forgive) my “3” rating.
Unfortunately, too many want simple answers to complex problems, with deep histories.
For God's sake, man. It's, "Your".
For (insert diety name of choice here)'s sake, you're being needlessly pedantic.

Roger's current tour starts like this...
The projection display even includes a warning on the screen, with Waters reading out, “If you’re one of those ‘I love Pink Floyd, but I can’t stand Roger’s politics’ people, you might do well to f–k off to the bar right now.”
I suppose you'll find this listener at the bar...f--k off Roger ya tottering pensioner, you've gone rather barmy...
Your comment above is darn funny, And the use of English pub slang adds to the yuk factor.

wow, lots of hate lurking out there. claims of antisemitism, such a crude dogwhistle in light of the complex geopolitics and undeniable subjugation of a people. the inability to differentiate between Zionism, the Isreali state and the Jewish religeon is always a badge of ignorance. there are many inside Isreal that abhor the treatment of the Palestinian people, but it doesn't fit the simple narrative or the easy media wins. Roger, like everyone isn't perfect, but he's deeply compassionate. it's also a beautiful song to my ears.
Welp, he's got lots of compassion for Putin, but none for Ukraine, the Ukrainian people, or anyone aiding them (naming the latter -- not Putin -- as war criminals!). He can't tell the difference between a war and an invasion and he can't comprehend why a country wouldn't want to simply cede vast parts of its land to an invader just to gain a temporary peace until the next invasion.
No more Roger Waters for me, for a long while.
I rather like this. Perhaps I should be giving the Final Cut a close listen.
The Final Cut takes some time and effort to appreciate. When I was a younger lad, I just couldn't get into the album one bit. But by my late 20s I realized the brilliance of the album. The lyrics and delivery still make my eyes water on occasional listen; the story and the sadness of a broken war veteran struggling with the post war dream and its failure. What makes Final Cut difficult to approach is that is sung mostly by waters in his rant-mode voice, and that he shut Gilmour out of much contribution (which robs it of the Pink Floyd sound/production). But while Gilmour didn't write any music for it, I always loved how we was very aggressive on the guitar parts, as if he was trying to force his presence back into the front of the album.
There is a great quote someone said about Waters/Gilmour; "if Waters had his way, he would do an album where the music in each song was the same, with different lyrics for every song. And Gilmour would prefer to write different music for each song, but reuse the same lyrics for each song." That quote illustrates how the 2 worked so well together back in the collaborative phase of PF.
Roger Waters wrote the song based on a poem written by Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish.
Mahmoud Darwish (Arabic: محمود درويش, translit. maḥmūd darwīsh, 13 March 1941 – 9 August 2008) was a Palestinian poet and author who was regarded as the Palestinian national poet.[1] He won numerous awards for his works. Darwish used Palestine as a metaphor for the loss of Eden, birth and resurrection, and the anguish of dispossession and exile.[2][3] He has been described as incarnating and reflecting "the tradition of the political poet in Islam, the man of action whose action is poetry."[4] He also served as an editor for several literary magazines in Israel.
Life and career
Mahmoud Darwish was born in the village of al-Birwa in the Western Galilee.[5] He was the second child of Salim and Houreyyah Darwish. His family were landowners. His mother was illiterate, but his grandfather taught him to read.[3] After Israeli forces assaulted his village of al-Birwa in June 1948, the family fled to Lebanon, first to Jezzin and then Damour.[6] Their home village was razed and destroyed by the Israeli army[7][8][9] to prevent its inhabitants from returning to their homes inside the new Jewish state.[10][11]
Copied from the wiki page Mahmoud Darwish.
He was admired by many Israelis and was frequently critical of Palestinian leaders and Hamas.
My parents owned a book of his poems, which I was encouraged to read as a child. It was over my head. I should re-read them as an adult. (my father and his family were driven from their farm the same year as Mahmoud Darwish's family)

The Waters Formula
Seriously funny. Haven't laughed this hard in awhile, thank you!
The Waters Formula
I love Floyd and everything Roger did with them, but for God's sake some of his solo stuff is dull...
The musical arrangements of Roger's songs by David and Rick go a long way...
Do give Final Cut a listen. It has amazing moments.
indeed, just think of it as a passionate Roger Walters album with the bonus of Pink Floyd as backing musicians :)
Please make your homework and look up who's terrorising who. Hint: it's the same people who constantly deny peace treaties, shoot regularly rockets at, murder citizens from & declared many times their absolute determination to annihilate the only democratic state far and wide.
Waters is a bloody antisemite; period. As is everybody who supports him in this matter!
Waters loves Arabs. They are Semitic peoples. Waters has lots of love for independent thinking, humanitarian "Bad Jews". The best critics of the occupation are often...... folks of Jewish descent, whether they live in Israel or outside of Israel.
Without terrorism, the modern USA would not exist. Without terrorism the Allied powers would not have won WW II. Without the key contribution of Palestinian Jewish terrorists, there would no modern Israel.
Monotonous droning
You don't say.
Not bad but sound like everything else he has done solo. At some point Roger is going to have to believe what a waste the last 35 years have been and what he could have done with Gilmour, Wright, and Mason.
my idea exactly! I'm just dying for a smart Gilmour solo here. It would have taken this mediocracy (Quite likable) to another level (Outstanding).
Monotonous droning followed by bombastic simple Classic Rock chords
More Formulaic dross from the Void
Welcome to the Void! If you don't like it, well you can always psd.
This cut not from The Final Cut...
Sure, but it’s similar stylistically. (Also it’s great and everyone should listen to it regardless)

This is a true love letter to all women.
Maybe more of an instruction to all men on how to love women.
UAE, Serbia, Kosovo and Israel are signing peace treaties. President Trump has avoided getting "into" a foreign war. He's pulling troops out of the never-ending wars his predecessors started. He is the only President that has not started a war in 35 years.
Are these idiotic ideals?
Before some mentions President Obama, he did involve (rightly or wrongly) America in several wars: ISIS, Libyan War, Yemen Civil War, Libyan Civil War, and Somali Civil War. To his credit, he is an (aspirational) Nobel laureate.
Please! I am from Serbia and can tell you that that was a really sloppy PR deal. Serbia agreed to move its embassy to Jerusalem, but never made good on the offer. As Trump knew it would be so. And he didn't care, since he needed some low-hanging fruit for his campaign.
UAE signed in because they were offered to become the exporter of aluminium to USA with lower customs rate. Remember Trump's hiking customs on aluminium for Canada? Well, it turned out UAE is great producer of the same. Just don't know where they get ore from.
And let's also mention Morocco, since we're on the topic. They also signed in, cause Trump acknowledged their "right" on a part of Sahara that was in dispute.
Is Trump a peace-maker? Or just a washed-out salesman?
Do give Final Cut a listen. It has amazing moments.
I do love that album as well, so brutally sad and awesome at the same time.
He likes to compare Israel to Nazi Germany, - the link BTW is UK's most left-wing daily newspaper which is highly critical of Israel
Likening Israel to Nazi Germany is considered antisemitic under the IHRA definition which is the most widely accepted international definition.

True. But I was using the style for quoting speech, which calls for a comma to be inserted before the quoted text. See, in my head I was saying, "Your!"

Jewish religion is not a simple topic. When I feel I am lacking of knowledge, I try to find one or more experts, eg. these ohere: http://daatemet.org.il/en/
Btw, I like this song, and Pink Floyd in general
There is not a hint of hate in this beautiful song.
I am/was in a relationship with an amazing woman who I just need to wait for after fate and circumstance has torn us apart... and Waters captures my emotions perfectly. This would pair well with Metric's Blindness.
@BillG: you jus got me through some rough times man , without RP I might have really lost my mind for good this time. I feel terrible that when I was making the big bucks I didn't send any your way besides that "test" I sent you in 2001 - I hope that I have managed to send many supporting listeners your way over the years, still no excuse. I'm on the upswing and when I have disposable income again I will contribute to the cause.
As I told Billy Joel on Michigan Avenue in Chicago in 2018: Keep on mixing Mr. Goldsmith and never stop!

I don't agree with Roger Waters' political style, his anti-corporatism and his tendency to isolate and 'reject' but at least for the love of God make an effort to understand him.
That way of life is long gone, too
Half the world is crazy. A quarter think the crazy half is helping them. The result? Baltimore is a sad example. 13 of 32 Baltimore high schools have zero kids proficient in math (ref). Zero! Yet the crazy say school choice is evil.
Instead of worrying about one man, I would suggest directing concern to the next generation.
That's not danger!

UAE agreed to recognize Israel with full diplomatic status. That’s not a peace treaty. Trump has been a huge supporter (including with armament sales) of Saudi Arabia, one of the primary aggressors of the brutal conflict in Yemen. He’s essentially waging war there by proxy, and you want to speak of ideals? US troops have died under his watch in West Africa and Afghanistan, he’s still in Iraq, and his withdrawal from Syria was a stunning betrayal of Kurdish allies and capitulation to Turkey. Whatever noble Trump nointerventionist theory you are espousing here is rapidly springing leaks. All he’s got is snake oil and smokescreens, and you bought it hook, line and sinker.
You're assumption is the that the support of a nationalism ideology has value and is worth engaging with regardless of how many people jump on that bandwagon. It is not. We fought this crap 100 years ago and millions lost their lives. The concepts are the antithesis of democracy and the ideals of America. It's not Roger's desire to give credence to the shallow, selfish, greedy, and idiotic ideals promoted by Trump and the alt-right, and he has the right to do that.

what a crock.
Roger Waters and the other BDS-supporting entertainment has-beens, if they support BDS, they either knowingly - or unknowingly - support Israel's complete elimination and have drunk the toxic Kool-Aid while naively thinking that all BDS aspires to is to seek to influence Israel's withdrawal from the “West Bank.” Nothing could be further from the truth.
The BDS movement's founder, Omar Barghouti, has openly stated on video that Israel has no legitimacy to exist as a Jewish state.
In any event, it's very difficult to take a comment seriously when the word "Isreal (sic) and "Isreali" (sic) are consistently misspelled. This is frequently a dead giveaway that the poster follows Islam.
Your fine comment is somewhat marred by your misspelling of "Israel". Irony!

Well, it is a Roger album, contemplative and deep, and like you say, an amazing album for a 73ish year old to put out...I'm also a fan of the album art with all the redactions....very nice...Long Live RP!!
Edit: Don’t love the power cords but I still love his voice. 6→7
You said - "Can't stand this fucking anti semite anymore! Motherfucking Jew hater!!"
123heyho! - go somewhere else.
Wow...I've probably said something similar (without regards to any song) before and it's neat to see someone say it here....agreed that the song is great to my ears too!! LLRP!!
Could you elaborate on this profound statement ?

I agree wholeheartedly - it's absolutely beautiful. I guess the naysayers just don't feel the love. Speaks more about them than about than the song in my humble opinion.
Do give Final Cut a listen. It has amazing moments.
Yes, from the musical aspect, I would agree. But I don't understand, why an artist, who fought against manipulation for all of his life, nowadays spends all of his energy to manipulate others, other artists. What has he learned from history, and from his own history? He's one of the most successful artists on the globe. His voice is heard. Why does he not use this voice to connect people, to bring them back to dialogue? The way he has chosen is easy, but will help noone to bring peace back again. We should always 'Keep Talking'. And if politicians can not do it, should not artists do it then?
Bring down the wall!
due to this song,
she's late but I wait.
