Listening to this I feel like I'm on some adventure in a place such as Morocco. Evocative.

Greetings from Ankara :)
Felt the same emotion when I first heard the song.
Always reminds me home.. Some of the notes, chords, really bring some old memories.. Ah Istanbul..

I Agree! Thanx RP!
Marvelous orchestration in this piece. Really brilliant mix overall. Powerful and yet very subtle.

Agreed, but this track has the distinct advantage of Loreena not singing on it.
Reminds me a bit of that one Loreena McKennitt song that's in regular rotation on RP... is it "The Gates of Istanbul"?
Can't pinpoint what the similarity is, maybe it's a riff or the key the song is in.

That's actually his cousin. Very musical family it seems.
Any relation to Jimmy Spheeris of the Isle of View album from the 70's

Seems more Middle Eastern than Celtic to my ears. Quite Nice -7-
McKennitt goes fairly Middle Eastern/Mediterranean on a lot of her songs too tho.

A bit reminiscent of the solo in Within You And Without you in places.

He's Greek American, so you are right. But I get the Celtic vibe as well.

Everybody in my church loves this song...
The Maážayin creates the state of Magaya, which is a state of peace, freedom from hostilities and true justice for all...
pretty good this, good mix of eastern influences, not for the masses admittedly but good played crescendo in the car on a dark night on your own driving back fro wherever

Thanks for re-introducing me to Chris!!
I have "Pathways to Surrender" from the 80's - an excellent album, but was not aware of any of his subsequent work - apparently he was very prolific in the 90's - 8 releases!
