Booker T meets Carlos.
Cool. Never heard this before, but in certain areas of the world, there were always local bands that had local hits. For us, growing up in Toronto in the late 70s, it was Max Webster.

this is better than that
8.0 - I am sucker for organ solos.

Long Live RP and
Long Live the Lizard King!!
And CoJo too

Great music from Led Zeppelin, Little Feat, Steely Dan, Santana, Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, Joe Jackson, etc. I'll take the 70's over most decades musically. BTW, fuck Nixon.

Please add all the others to the list:  Dead,  Dylan, Joni M, Van M, Neil Young,  Stones, Aerosmith,  Allmans, Lynrd Skynryd, Wilile N, Bruce S, BTO,  Pink Floyd, Yes, Nektar,  Queen, Fleetwood,  etc. etc. etc.

It was a huge buffet table of music. So many genres and so many bands.  We all got spoiled on it.

Today..what you got?  Boiled potatoes and lukewarm water (e.g., Foo Fighters and Arcade Fire).
RP has ONLY ONE TUNE by them on the PLAYLIST!   PLEASE ADD MORE TUNES!!  Thank You!

OutSTANDing Latin soul. Groove all over the place. Love this.

I Agree!  GREAT TUNE!!   I had never heard of them prior to this!  Thanx RP!
Now I know where Kid Frost got the sample for ‘La Raza’.
GREAT STEREO IMAGING.

Never heard this before, or of them, but really enjoying it! Thanks - AGAIN - Bill!

The cover photo or the music?

Maybe stop defining music by decades. The evolution of music is a continuum not isolated blocks of time. Also bear in mind most people's knowledge of what the music of a decade consisted of usually was limited to what was played on commercial radio (especially pre-internet). 90% of the great music of the 80s wasn't played on 99% of radio stations.
This is so groovy!
OK, now how bout some Mongo Santamaria?

Ack. Never understood the 70s nostalgia kick. It was a decade of cultural, economic, and political hangovers. Disco, stagflation, Nixon...no thanks.

Nice Monday morning, get to work vibe. Thanks Bill.{#Cool}
Bumpin' on sunset lived on my turntable in the late 60's. The is a nice case of almost deja vue.
Wouldn't mind you skipping this one on the rotation, Bill.  But, that's just my opinion.

A bit redundant but fit in with the jive of the day so it totally works.

Uhhh...I respectfully ask that you explain that declaration. There were some good things about the 70s—American culture was still evolving independently of mass-media commercialism, so if you had a brain you could see how much bullshit the TV was trying to feed you. But to me it felt like the country had run out of energy and direction. Jimmy Carter was right when he said in speech televised in prime time that the country was suffering from a general malaise and crisis in confidence (even though he was part of the problem).

There were some great movies and music in the 70s, I'll admit.
Cool B3

{#Bananajam}{#Sunny}and another little band from East  LA.
They did have more than this tune.
Seem to remember them kinda on par with Santana.

That's better
so super coooool, this cosmically helps me fill out dreary paperwork to a funky samba slide, sounds mucho suave'
Might fine B3 solo.  Thought it WAS Santana or their organ player.  I am sure they hated thinking so too
This is quite good.

Simon! Que chevere!

Wow, what a stab from the past. This group even played our small town in the early 70's. Remember it well. Great stuff, rivals of Santana that never went as far, but great music nonetheless. Sorry to hear of Espinosa's passing. Viva la Raza! Down with Jan Brewer and all the idiot Arizona Republicans that just passed Senate Bill 1070. Racism though is not alive in Arizona, just have a bunch of misguided politicians trying to solve the enormous drug cartel problem south of the border with the wrong tools.

Groovin...
There's a great article on Gerald Wilson, the writer of "Viva Tirado," in the September 2011 issue of Stereophile magazine.

They look great, but sound terrible.
Groovy, love it!
Wow, now this brings back memories! Forgot about them...!

I usually love (prefer) music older than I am, with one special exception: nearly the entire decade 1970-1979. {#Silenced}
This genre does nothing for me, either...but I'm afraid we're in the minority here.

It was the 1970s.  If you were there, you understand.  If you're too young to have been there, count yourself lucky.

I kind of wish people would still dress up colorfully—maybe not quite like on their cover. good song.

Maybe even a C3.  I'd still give the edge to (Santana's) Greg Rolle, but this is definitely groovy.

Having heard this music many times before this airing on RP, it was easy for me to rate it. So, no, I'm not daft, but you are an asshole.

Okay, this is going nowhere fast. The guitar is lousy and the repetition is making me on edge.making me on edge. making me on edge.
Cool - reminds me of the intro to "Low spark ..."
Groovy.

This is cheesy, almost cliched—but it makes me happy. You can't help but start smiling.

Love it.  Just love it.
