wonderin why their bodies go to silly places.
Walkin past the carpet mills looking in and takin stills,
your ass it draws me in like a Bermuda highway.
Oh, don't carve me out! Don't let your silly dreams,
fall in between the crack of the bed and the wall.
Two times I fell asleep in a dirty basement
snoozing in cobwebs and the cement.
Sometimes I wonder why that meek guy got all the fame,
maybe im to blame for his short bitter fucked up life.
what a song.
he puts his whole heart in this!
Lizardking -- I love the soundscape of this song, but I can't connect to the lyrics at all? Is there something esoteric I'm missing?
Great to leave it up to your audience, right?
Great song, but I still can't get over the fact that BERMUDA HAS NO HIGHWAYS. I guess I shouldn't sweat it, though; there isn't a "Stairway to Heaven," either.
There are Bermudas in lots of places. It's not just the island.

I think a "Bermuda Highway" is an alcoholic cocktail beverage. I've never had one and don't know how to make it, but I bet it tastes like ass!
So why does that James kid moan his way through the whole song?
Because it sounds nice when he does it.. I think

I don't think Jimmy James is singing about the island of Bermuda. Along with no highways, I'd bet it doesn't have any carpet mills* either. I think the setting of the song is the band's home state of Missouri.
My interpretation is he's heartbroken over his girlfriend dumping him for another guy to the point he's completely fallen apart. He's missing the sex too and he's equating that to another favorite thing he likes to do that he's not doing anymore, driving fast. (He's walking around town.)
So, the analogy is a car driving hard and fast down a long, straight, lonely, country road between fields of Red or, Bermuda, onions. The "ass" lyric then makes perfect sense.
One of my favorite bands.
* "Carpet Mill" could be an incredibly funny term for a bikini waxing business. Which would put the "takin' stills" lyric in a different, and kinda' creepy, context so Jimmy's probably singing about actual textile factories.

No, but Hawaii has an interstate highway.
Maybe he was thinking "Bermuda triangle" which would kind of make sense - but it didn't scan.
Yeah, these guys have that special ingredient.
Right? I had to go 8 to 9 after reading the lyrics....didn't realize how poetic he was here....Long Live RP!!

I stop to watch the YouTube video, and the fact that is just him and his guitar at Red Rocks is effing amazing. In fact I think this may be the same audio.
and I just figured out the album title

Naugatuck, Connecticut :o)
Every song I hear I love them more!
STOP MUMBLING!!!!
I couldn't know the lyrics unless I read them here. Jeez.
His howl at the end ... that's me as I listen to him swallow the words.
Is there an alternative? This is a cool version - nice to hear them without what often comes across as over-produced, studio sound.
Indeed
..... yes, yes, yes & yes
My sentiments almost exactly, rdo.
Yep, this is one of those times when I am for shure against the big market USA which forces artists to sing in English. I predict RP will change that. As I have stated here a few times, I am one who champions poetry, but the elements of music most important to me are not lyrical.
I seldom pay any attention to lyrics. When I do it has little impact on my rating. I would like to hear more performers singing in their native language.

Same....I saw them in Camden NJ and felt the same way. I overheard many people saying, "Well at least we can say we saw Dylan." as they left 5 or 6 songs into Dylan's set!
Me too. Bumped it from 8 to 9 with this listen.
Yeah, he's got a strong, luminous voice -- but I can too seldom discern what the hell he is singing. I need to read the lyrics.

I took my wife and kids to the Americanarama show at Shoreline in August. I would have stayed till the bitter end, but everyone was ready to head out after 3 or 4 Dylan songs, so you made it longer that we did;) Seeing Bob Weir sing with Wilco and MMJ definitely made it worth the effort!
Great song BTW...

They are all pretty good but I love Okonokos (2006), it's a live double album.
Hard to say. Can't go wrong with their latest.
Thanks for playing.
Music has that ability to take one somewhere instantly.
In this case back to winter of 2008 long languid nights of burning candles drinking wine and much more
Hard to focus on work with that visual in my mind!

should...just saying....
Truly, I had to check who was singing.
Quite a bit of beauty in this......7..
And, even though people drive like maniacs here...there are no highways :-)
x2 (although I am a few years shy of 50)
My Morning Jacket seems to have a great deal of intense joy in their music - even when the song is sad. I think that's one of the things I like best about them.
Seems to be their trademark gimmick.
Personally, I dont see what the fuss is about these guys and feel they come off a bit flat. I just dont hear it.
Boy, I am with you brother, don't get it.
Thinking the same..WoW.. 8.
This one's getting a pretty high rating - I LOVE My Morning Jacket. (And I love the group, too.)
Ain't that the truth!
what is with all this mellow shit!!! it's too much.rock out with you cock out!!!
I know you've only been a member for a week, but could you talk/write without referring to your dick. It's offensive and quite honestly, there are plenty of other sites where you can express yourself like this.
Plus, this is Radio Paradise. It's one thing and then another, and then another, and if you don't like it, there are plenty of other places to go and behave poorly.
Like American politics (but that is going to change a little next week), so get in there while your still not as recognizable.

Also, I use emusic.com, and they had it for download as well. Nice, DRM-free mp3s...
Amazon has it
