These fleeting charms of earth
Farewell, your springs of joy are dry
My soul now seeks another home
A brighter world on high

I'm a long time travelling here below
I'm a long time travelling away from home
I'm a long time travelling here below
To lay this body down

Farewell kind friends whose tender care
Has long engaged my love
Your fond embrace I now exchange
For better friends above

I'm a long time travelling here below
I'm a long time travelling away from home
I'm a long time travelling here below
To lay this body down...

So many of the best “Americana” bands are Canadian.  Thanks Jenny’s for your stunning music from the Canadian Prairie. And thanks America, for the brilliant inspiration.   In Canada we know how to do hybrid culture.

Gosh, they're grand and glorious!   ; )
Beautifully sung…
So beautiful
Oh my, that's just so fine.
Is it just me or are they pausing at random lengths between the verses?
Love the great stories... In music
I love this! It makes my ears smile.

Nice - today while listening to My Favorites, this tune was followed up with Supertramp's "Goodbye Stranger" - another great combo even if the My Fav is a random play of my 8+ rated songs.

Long Live RP and BillG's segue-craft in all the mixes provided, intentional or not!
There was a lovely a cappella quartet called Vida that put out a couple of albums in the mid/late-90's, performing mostly rearranged versions of Eastern European folk songs. I need to upload some tracks to YouTube or wherever, then post them here for consideration. (Trying to search for videos for them is damn near impossible with such a simple band name.)
God I love the Wailin' Jenny's. Even a sad song like this puts a smile on my face, their voices are so lovely.
so amazingly fun to sing along with, and if my voice just will never be Ruth Moody's, I love singing with Annabelle Chvostek and Nicky Mehta (more my range). The music is joyful!
Good grief these gals are great!

Ten every harmonic one oh
My little brush with fame, such as it is for a band like the Jenny's. I knew Cara in the early 90's when she was friends with friends. Got to help her set up and sound check at another friends wedding mid 2000's in Vernon, B.C. after I'd moved back home from Ontario. Always loved her voice and doing the soundcheck at the wedding was a wonderful little look into how a voice can mature as a person does. Always loved their sound.

I'm pretty sure that's not a prerequisite.
c.

We played a Wailin' Jennys song at our wedding and looks like we'll be playing this for my mom's funeral. Been struggling to find the right tunes.

Well duh - it's their genre.  Same way punk is all similar.

Harmonies anyone?

Saw these gals in a small theater that only seats about 100 people a few years ago...one of the best shows I've ever seen.  Not only are their voices amazing they have such great personalities as well.
Sublime.

I had the pleasure of seeing them at the Kate Wolfe Music Festival this year. They are a fine group of musicians and performers; I'm glad to hear them often on RP.
8 -> 10.

I love being married to a second alto; we blend well. There is something to be said for female baritones.

Interestingly, none of them were wailin' either.  Very sweet and soulful.
Sweet. I'd heard of the Wailin'Jennys but hadn't taken the time to check 'em out.
Thanks for the intro.
Very pretty voices and arrangement.

Thanks RP to introducing me to the Jenny's.....had a chance to see them in concert in a tiny little venue about3 years ago......incredible voices...and quite funny as well
Sweet feminine calls!

thanks Bill!
I like this album, like this track, just not sure of if it should be on a radio playlist.
So I finally just checked them on Wiki.  None of them are named Jenny.  LOL
Sigh.  (Southern boy thinks about his childhood in the sun and woods ... and other things that are gone, never to return.)

Love the Wailin' Jennys

Tom Waits followed by Joni Mitchell followed by this. Can't catch a break.
This is the kind of song that's so good it's almost enough to make me hop off RP and listen to the entire album that it comes from.

(Almost.)
No, they meant ''aural orgasm.''  Like what you get from aural sex.

Thank you, Canada, for more golden musical voices such as Leonard Cohen's. Remember that he said he ''was born with the gift of a golden voice.''

My family is from the mountains of Southwestern VA and North Carolina and I grew up with Blue Grass, Folk, Mountain Music, etc.

My parents dragged me to many a Blue Grass Festival in the '60s and '70s when I was a young, impressionable lad.

Mom just passed away and I plan on using this wonderful song at her service.
Thanks to RP I bought the Jennys' first disc. Now I'm about to buy this one too.
Heard this beauty last night, bought the CD this morning. Thanks, RP!

Wonderful!
Love it.  "Didn't leave nobody but the baby" anybody?
Sublime...I can feel my insides humming over the three-part harmonies.  The other members of my house thought it was the Alison/Emylou/Gillian a cappella song from "Oh Brother Where Art Thou", a flattering mistake if ever there was.
No instrument like the human voice in perfect tune. {#Meditate}
This time it followed Ripple, a song about the existential road, just like that of the Long Time Taveller (sic).
Love it.
Now I get the thread here: Willie & Lobo followed by The Wailin' Jennys—two acts that came together serendipitously as a result of some random guy (a Canadian guitar shop owner in the Jennys' case, and a Mexican bar owner in W&L's) hearing them and suggesting they perform together as a group. (In the Jennys case, the guitar shop, Sled Dog Music, owner named them, as well.) Thank you, Wikipedia; got my donation's worth again! :-)
I get goosebumps when this song begins. Amazing.

I agree! Harmonies are uplifting.      {#Clap}
Kinda repetitive right?  Just kidding, I LOVE this tune... they could sing the phone book for me and I would listen all the way through.
Heard them sing this in both hemishperes, the only difference was  the direction the speakers swirled. So good both times.
Sublime artistry. Truly.
Or ''auralgasm''?

This song made me realize the true criterion for ratings is related to how quickly I rush to crank up the volume.
Wailin' is right. Lovely as it is, I could only take this in small doses. The pitches have a "nails on chalkboard" for me after a while.

So Pretty,  Thank you Bill!
A cappella nirvana.
Winsome.
Excellent transition from Dead Reckoners - Rocky Road to this!

This just gets better and better the more I hear it.  I loves me my Jennys.

You're late.
Rec'd this CD for Christmas  couple of years back. At first listen, oh hum, sounded a little too poppy for my tastes. But over the years, the CD has continued to grow on me, this song one of many fine tunes. Now a favorite.

I think this piece is proof that a song does not need to be complex to be beautiful.  The structure is about as straight-forward as you can get, the harmonies are beautiful but not particularly unique, and yet you take the whole together and it is somehow profound.

I don't understand words, but these voices are very close to me. With pleasure has voted.
