Meet me in the middle of the day
Let me hear you say everything's okay
Bring me southern kisses from your room
Meet me in the middle of the night
Let me hear you say everything's alright
Let me smell the moon in your perfume

Oh, Gods and years will rise and fall
And there's always something more
It's lost in talk, I waste my time
And it's all been said before
While further down behind the masquerade the tears are there
I don't ask for all that much I just want someone to care
That's right now

Meet me in the middle of the day
Let me hear you say everything's okay
Come on out beneath the shining sun

Meet me in the middle of the night
Let me hear you say everything's alright
Sneak on out beneath the stars and run

Oh yeah, oh yeah yeah, oh yeah

It's king and queen and we must go down now beyond the chandelier
Where I won't have to speak my mind and you won't have to hear
Shreds of news and afterthoughts and complicated scenes
We'll huddle down behind the light and fade like magazines

Meet me in the middle of the day
Let me hear you say everything's okay
Bring me southern kisses from your room

Hey hey, meet me in the middle of the night
Let me hear you say everything's alright
Let me smell the moon in your perfume

Oh now, meet me in the middle of the day
Let me hear you say everything's okay
Let me see you smiling back at me

Hey, meet me in the middle of the night
Let me hear you say everything's alright
Hold me tight and love and loving's free

Woah yeah

Steve Forbert is one of the most under appreciated singer-songwriters of the last 40 years. Thankful for RP for keeping his music available to new listeners. Can’t possibly listen to this song without smiling and singing along.

It's a shame, like so many other artists, they get relegated to the few "hits" of their careers and no attention is given to the rest of their catalog.

I agree. And thanks to the comments too from listeners who give a little insight to an artist’s background that I would not know coz missed out at the time when they were around and at their peak of their career.
I am from a place and time that was behind a big wall that besides keeping people very limited in their life opportunities, held back so much interesting and wonderful things from sight and hearing.
Like this artist. Isn’t he just fantastic? I couldn’t agree more with the comment above. And I have never heard him of him before RP.
gratitude 🙏
I'm smiling, thinking of my youth (I was 14)...
I LOVE THIS! reminds me of radio when i was a kid.
Yeah nah
southern kisses??

hmmm
my wife appreciates those!
This song cropped up (probably here) a few years ago when my life was unraveling. Divorce and whatnot. This song got on my regular playlist. Listened to it many times that year. I think the melody and lyrics saved my life.
I recorded onto cassette when it was new, great album, great songwriter.
Anyone with an album titled 'Jackrabbit Slim' is worthy of good ratings!
Just a lovely song - what else to say!
A pure and fresh talent. I listen to steve's music since 40 years and i'm never tired of his simple and deep songs.
My daughter was born in the time of this song- so much hope before reality took over and the marriage fell to drugs and booze. Fortunately recovery entered later and we’re all on good terms. Steve Forbert will always perk me up!
Great high school grad memories, thanks Stevie.
I'd forgotten all about this tune. It was fun when it came out but it wasn't a standout hit--more like soundtrack to an 80s teen movie. The lyrics keep it fresh.

Actually liking the music is nothing to be guilty of!
My 'spot the intro' neurones fired off on this one, showing how many are occupied from the dim and distant past. Maybe that explains why I can't remember unimportant stuff, like what I ought to be doing, or what was I doing before I leapt to write this comment! RP is terrible for productivity...
Little Stevie Orbit! Great memory
never realized how much this song sounded like it was written by Bob Dylan specifically around the new morning by the waves era
Damn. Love me a little Stevie Forbert!
Wow! This is a welcome throwback to my car seat riding days.
Always found something underdone about Forbert.
Nothing guilty about this pleasure.
Great memories from this tune
been a while since I've heard this. Probably Classic Rock Radio in LaRose Louisiana before they became Cajun music
Was strangely sort of lumped in with "New Wave" when it came out. But then he was quickly sabotaged by the "New Dylan" label and that's the kiss of death for a career. But I loved this record.
