You are one state away
but there is 10,000 miles of water
between you and me in Hawaii.

I'd love to meet you for dinner half way
but there's nothing half way between you
and me in Hawaii.

Stay put, I'm coming to get you.
I've got a job to accomplish.
I will float on my raft for you.

You live by the ocean
and it's funny but I live by the same ocean
but I can't even see Hawaii.

There's a girl in the picture.
Her name is Pacific Ocean and
she has come between you,
me and Hawaii.

Stay put, I'm coming to get you.
I've got a job to accomplish.
I will float on my raft for you

despite the ridiculous lyrics, her haunting voice makes this a solid 7
I sense Cocteau Twins but with lyrics I can actually understand

Ya, Alanis Morrisette :)

Sounds like Pink Floyd.

"In between running L. A. Marathon", Wow!
Never stop it! In between keep on singing.
I've been liking this since it came out, about a year after I'd gotten hooked on this new blissful music-streaming thing, Radio Paradise, and I just love the way she is so playful and emotive with her lovely voice, which makes me think of Anna Ternheim, Ane Brun, dream-like states, long-distance longings...
reminds me of some of Bjork's work

Can't explain, it's a visceral feeling.
This song tingles my insides most pleasantly...

Very addictive. The more I listen to it the more I like it.

Susan Aglukark is Canadian, if that's the "Alaskan" to which you refer.

Watch out! Some day robots will sing songs just like this -- SONGS LACKING ANY MUSICAL CONTENT--  to other, simpler

Yeah, I bought a much less processed version of the song in 2004-5 after hearing it on RP, so it threw me off to hear this edit - not my favorite, and I'd rate it 2-3 points lower. (That being said, I generally like to hear remixes to see what the changes bring to the song... but I'd still rather have the gentler-instrumentals cut.)

I'm hearing Catatonia! Same time period, too.

Bill could probably tell you.  But then he'd have to kill you.
That cover pic always reminds me of Gwen Stefani:

Actually I think the rhythm track suits the song quite well.

The very next song on the playlist today is "Crystals" by Of Monsters and Men - now that's how to do it!

I agree with the percussion comment.  It needs to be better.

It's 3 years later ... and Lyle Lovett is the next artist on the main playlist today.  I always wonder how the RP song rotation works.

And while obviously vocals are female, I'm reminded Elbow for some reason too.

Bill used to play another version that didn't have the annoying fuzzed-out percussion beat. What'd you do with that nice version, Bill?

Bad Bill. Bad.

Yes I wondered who it was, thinking it might be a german band whose name now totally escapes me!
But actually quite haunting and fresh. I'll give it a 6.
I love this album and I need to find it again! At one time there was talk of a second album, but it never happened.

I'm hearing, K.D Lang's "So it shall be"
I was always hoping that there would be another album after this. There was talk, but it never happened. Guess she had a kid instead.
Interesting...love the diminished chords and piano part.
Been a long time for this one.  Bill used to always couple this with two other songs, one about Hawaii and the other an Alaskan song....

And, once again, Bill proves he has a sense of humor (and that he reads the comments) by following this with Orinoco Flow by Enya. :P

It's "float on my raft for --". After many repetitions, she eventually finishes it off with "float on my raft for you."

Sounds like "Float on my reptile" to me. She's clearly at the pool and she has one of those alligator-shaped floaty toys.

Yes, very beautiful floating. Nice melody.
Beautiful. Keep on floating forever.

Hm. Not horrible, but makes me wish I was listening to Portishead instead...

I like the old version better. More haunting...and soothing...
this makes me feel funny.
Thought it was Anna Ternheim at first...
I like it.
This one is irritating, but check out her song 'all the good men' - click on the picture somewhere below.

Kind of Bjork meets Delerium for me. Derivitive, yes, but I like it.
Irritating voice, loads of sampling, music of the type "Been there, done that". No more than a 2...
Wow, I blond version of Kate Bush! I think I'm in love . . .

i love this woman's voice. not because it's a great singing voice, but because it's so imperfect. it's quirky. and i also love songs about oceans.
