Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle-jangle morning I'll come followin' you

Though I know that evening's empire
Has returned into sand
Vanished from my hand
Left me blindly here to stand but still not sleeping

My weariness amazes me
I am branded on my feet
I have no one to meet
And the ancient empty street's too dead for dreaming

Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle-jangle morning I'll come followin' you

Take me on a trip upon your magic swirling ship
My senses have been stripped, my hands can't feel to grip
My toes too numb to step
Wait only for my boot heels to be wandering

I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade
Into my own parade
Cast your dancing spell my way
I promise to go under it

Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle-jangle morning I'll come followin' you

Though you might hear laughing spinning, swinging madly across the sun
It's not aimed at anyone
It's just escaping on the run
And, but for the sky, there are no fences facing

And if you hear vague traces of skipping reels of rhyme
To your tambourine in time
It's just a ragged clown behind
I wouldn't pay it any mind
It's just a shadow you're seeing that he's chasing

Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle-jangle morning I'll come followin' you

Then take me disappearing through the smoke rings of my mind
Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves
The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow

Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves
Let me forget about today until tomorrow

Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle-jangle morning I'll come followin' you

One of the most influential songwriters and performers. He took his interpretation of folk music and put a more rock n' roll spin on it. It's most amazing to me that he has managed to pull off so many different sounds and styles from each album.

This is the kind of music that gives you shivers and makes you contemplate the reason you are alive.

It makes you think about life and love.

My favorites are Blood on the Tracks (album) and Mr. Tambourine Man. wnick87

There's a nice story in the Keith Richards biography by Victor Bockris about the first time Richards met Dylan. Richards: 'They had to carry me into the London club Blaises and then I went over to him and I was pretty frightened. I could write Satisfaction, but never could write Mr. Tambourine Man.'

How funny that you quote a band that got started in the sixties to make your point. Somebody call the irony police.
So? What's ironic about quoting the Who? They were rebels regardless of when they got started.

\"Crap\" is a bit harsh. Listening to the lyrics, I think this song is one that only a particular generation will get. I\'m not of that generation. My theory is this is one of those tunes that is more about what you were doing when you listened to it \"back in the day\"... the song itself, objectively, is not that interesting. There are quite a few songs like that for me... songs I cringe at a little, but still listen to!
this must the comedy version, made me laugh anyways. I guess after singing it 12 million times even the Bob gets complacent, good thing his gift was rock\'n roll and not rock-climbing
I am a big Dylan supporter but this is not very good.

Indeed. This just seems to drag along. No soul. No expression. The harmonica just sounds odd in this version. I don't like this version.
Nice alt. version.

Dude. You gave Weird Al a 9. I will admit that Bob can be difficult to listen to. In fact, I saw him live in the 80s a couple of times and was bored and annoyed. But, a few years ago, he was "accidentally" booked into a small venue in Billings Montana (the large arena in town had a prior booking that the Arena forgot about). The room was a gymnasium that held about 2000 people max. In that setting, with his great new band, I discovered Bob Dylan. I get it now. He is a god. So shut up.
A clear example that how a man can ruine his own songs!! What a pity!!
