Say the west is a story we made up to erase
Conestoga wagons left tracks you can see from space
From the Northwest passage to the Great Divide
Everybody's looking for the other side
I'm still waiting for the whiskey to whisk me away
And I'm still waiting for the ashtray to lead me astray
I twist the cul-de-sacs into one way signs
I ain't going round in circles on the other side
So at night I sit and watch for stars to stay
They wink and then they're gone down the Milky Way
But when You're left in the middle of the Midwest sky
Everywhere you look is the Other Side

Sound and singer are fine, but I am tired of sadness and dragginess. Let us have a change of pace and get upbeat, please.
Yeah, but not all of Ritter's tunes are like this.
Girl In the War, Wolves, Man Burning, To the Dogs or Whoever, and Right Moves are fun, bright, well-written compositions. Great poetry, story-telling and lots of wild imagery. Give them a listen.

Over four years later, I AGREE! RP seems to favor the slow, dark, dreary, and downbeat.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I'm guessing, by playing this next to new Gomez, Blll is aware that Josh Ritter and Gomez are "co-headlining" at several gigs on Gomez's spring tour.

Not bad, but I do prefer the non-remixed version (aka the original).
Gak! That CD cover gave me a school bus flashback!
I loved him on Three's Company.

nice song, but did anyone catch that the dj said the same exact thing between the last song and this one about before? one does not make the same mistake and recover this same exact way twice.

I would believe so (heather nova).
great lyrics

I have to say that I really like Josh, but when I first heard him perform live I thought to myself that the thing he needs to be most careful about is doing to much post-production on his music. I think this song works better with simpler production values... IMHO....

Awesome. I\'d like to hear him collaborate with Beth Orton.
