I want a girl with a mind like a diamond
I want a girl who knows what's best
I want a girl with shoes that cut
And eyes that burn like cigarettes

I want a girl with the right allocations
Who is fast and thorough and sharp as a tack
She's playing with her jewelry
She's putting up her hair
She's touring the facility and picking up slack
I want a girl with a short skirt and a long jacket

I want a girl who gets up early (Gets up early)
I want a girl who stays up late (Stays up late)
I want a girl with uninterrupted prosperity (Uninterrupted)
Who uses a machete to cut through red tape

With fingernails that shine like justice
And a voice that is dark like tinted glass
She is fast, thorough, and sharp as a tack
She's touring the facility and picking up slack
I want a girl with a short skirt and a long, long jacket

I want a girl with a smooth liquidation (Smooth liquidation)
I want a girl with good dividends (Good dividends)
At Citibank we will meet accidentally (Meet accidentally)
We'll start to talk when she borrows my pen

She wants a car with a cup holder armrest
She wants a car that will get her there
She's changing her name from Kitty to Karen
She's trading her MG for a white Chrysler LeBaron
I want a girl with a short skirt and a long jacket

She's changing her name from Kitty to Karen
She's trading her MG for a white Chrysler LeBaron

The rhythm sounds a lot like Sweet Jane by Lou Reed.  Very cool song.
Great bass line: instant 8 for me.
bits of guitar work makes me think this girl is called Jane

Too Funny!  LOL!
LOVE IT! When this was new and popular, my son was around 5, and then, and ever since, when we were in the car and it came on, both of us would stop in mid-conversation and sing and bop along to it...such fun!
smooth liquidation.

yes. love this song/cake!
GREAT TUNE!   Thanx RP!

Reminds me of Zappa.  What's not to like?
That's gotta be one of the longer pauses of silence in a song (not counting silliness like Phil Glass)

Excellent! Thanks for that!

CAKE just might be the most polarizing band, at least as far as comments go, on RP.  Well, I say long live RP for playing CAKE!! This one gets a 9 from me cuz that girl in the bank has got to be fine.

They are not polarizing at all if you look at the ratings. Generally, RP listeners like them a lot. And there are always dissenters.
My friends say this song is about me! ...LOL!
Whatever happened to "Italian Leather Sofa"?
🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Yes!! What a bass line. It really IS this tune.
This has got to be one of the best base lines + drum beats ever! Holy Moly it's good!

At least I have the white Chrysler LeBaron. It does not have a cup holder!

Booty makes me shake my Cake.
I mean, at Citibank she borrowed his freakin' pen. Such an event can not be dismissed.
Short Skirt Long Jacket:

Very nice !!!

Excellent transition from "Come on out" by Airborne Toxic Event.
I want a girl who gets up early (Gets up early)
I want a girl who stays up late (Stays up late)

So, a sleep deprived girl?

You must be confusing RP with one of those commercial FM stations that employ 2 DJ's per show to jabber mindless crap to each other and cut to commercials every 10 minutes, like some I could mention in the UK.
Reminds me of Jonathan richman
LOVE THIS SONG.
I always like songs about girls, an easy 7
Her long jacket looks like a quiptic crossword.
I dig it.

One of the better Cake songs and yes the style fits the song quite well. But John McCrea and Lou will always be famous for their limited vocal talents, I reckon.

Personally, I prefer a 'girl' with a long, oversize t-shirt (mine) and nothing else.

Catchy tune.
Chit Chat

Good sounding bass.

I think the explanation is that a few hearings pretty much does the job. How many times can one hear this and still find it refreshing? For me, the limit was passed quite a number of listens ago.
I totally love the deadpan "yeah, we're ripping off Sweet Jane/Baba O'Reilly/Ain't Seen Nothin Yet" part of this.

I first discovered Cake live, before they "made it". That show, however, soured me on them since: perky tunes accommodating inappropriate, cynicism, emotives, and expression. Nevertheless, I still find their tunes to be catchy, and yet a sense of (my own) humor in them.

So...she borrowed your pen after you two met accidentally at Citibank? Fascinating. A minor event, for certain, but part of the story of a girl "with good dividends and a smooth liquidation"...amongst other things.

Ohhhh -THANK YOU, Hodgie! Cake seems to get the same reaction as They Might Be Giants or Devo. Me?  I love the hell outta them, because they're so deadpan. (I think they're flower-child/conspiracy-theorists, which definitely presents a whole new element to the listening experience...)

the BEST Cake song...
There are very few songs I can listen to more than once a day without tiring of them... but this is most certainly one of them {#Dancingbanana}
Cake has worn thin for me over the years, however they are good live.
seeing them in June!  Can't wait!!

Cake is the f-ing worst bad that ever lived.

Sometimes I am lucky enough to see that they are coming before the song even starts.

You have to appreciate life's little joys.

Especially when you are a joyless person, eh?

I fear that anyone who's watched "Chuck" will forever associate this song with the show.  I'm trying to separate myself from that mistake - Cake is a good band, with or without the television show. But dang - I can't help it, with this song... I perk up and remember a favorite scene from the show.  And I had NO idea that Zachary Levi could sing, but he's quite good.  In fact, the cast of "Chuck" seems to be a bunch of hidden talents. (Refer to my previous post about the episode "Africa.")

I want a woman with a short skirt and a loooooooooong......jacket. Gee - wonder why? {#Devil_pimp}

I love me some Cake.  I've never heard a Cake song that I'd rate less then a 6.

Gotta admit - it's grown on me.  Yeah, I like it.
