So people that like a song with a low average rating don't get to hear it because they have a taste which deviates from the norm? It's exactly the principle which makes commercial radio so mind-numbingly bland. I would be ok with unpopular songs being played less, or songs which nobody likes being deleted, but deleting songs just because low average rating? - pretty borderline.

Actually, I think the clap track is the "Diwali Riddim" part. A quick search on Google yields countless songs that also use the same beat, including Wayne Wonder's recent "No Holding Back." My point is that if Sean Paul is ripping off anyone, it's whoever started the Diwali Riddim beat, not this particular song that happens to use it.

Context: how dancehall music is created in Jamaica. DJs create rhythms and sometimes they "blow up" ie. get popular. Many artistes use the current rhythm (not sure of the financial arrangements), dance routines may be created on the road to go along with the current style. It's very dynamic. Eg. the well known 90s rhythm called Pepper Seed - it defined the end of the 90s.   Just seeing another listener had already commented referencing more rhythms.
Love This!!!!!!!!!

Wow, so Sean Paul is not only talentless, he's also a thief. The only redeeming quality to his top10 hit was this beat and he ripped it off. He should be dragged out into the street and shot... but instead he'll just get a grammy or two

Jamaican dancehall is based on riddims. Someone lays a riddim and it's accepted that every man woman and child will lay down their own vocals or accompaniment on top of the riddim. In the dancehalls, clubs, bars, streets, selectors mix the riddims so that a set of the related songs backed by the riddim are inerwoven for long sets. There are thousands of riddims, bam bam, joyride, sleng teng, stalag, taxi, full up, baba boom that do this.

Interesting point of view "diversity . as long as it's good." Eclectic: selecting what appears to be best in various doctrines, methods, or styles. Which means, for everyone, not just what someone thinks is "good".
No, actually, by your own definition, "best" would mean...well, best. If this song belongs to a particular genre of music, and it were the ONLY song, it would be best. One more song gets added, it suddenly becomes worst. In this case, this song has lots of competition, and certainly does not qualify for best in any way, shape, or form. More importantly, though, what's the point of diversity just for diversity's sake? If it's not high quality, all the diversity in the world won't help. Cinimod wrote:
Good or bad or any absolute doesn't really make sense when it comes to such things as art or music. What's my point? Glad to hear if someone likes it or not a track, but having removed from the play list just because they think its bad defeats the point of having an eclectic mix.
Actually, what would be the point of a rating system if songs were NOT removed because of low scores? Is this just an academic exercise to study how long people will rate songs before they realize it has no effect? And, based on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being "best" this song currently rates a 4.4...which by all accounts puts it near the bottom, and worthy of deletion. Not because I say so, but because MANY people say so. Cinimod wrote:
I apologise for my petty 10 rating. It was a knee jerk reactions and I have corrected to what I really feel about that track.
Great to hear! There's a lot of good music here, and I happen to enjoy most of it. This song just doesn't happen to be one I do. Enjoy.

I'm all for diversity, as long as the music's good. This isn't. Giving it a 10 just to make a point completely misses the point. Rate the music. This is a 1.
:highfive:

You'd think that 4.4 rating would be enough to get it off the playlist. Maybe after I rate it and it goes down to 4.3.
To your discomfort I think it will stay a lot longer I already talk to Bill about it... To keep ot on the list...
I think its fun

Right you are... too busy This sucks! Please pull it. For the eclectic zealots - I back the diversity, just not with this song. Peace.

I can't understand the bad rating either. This is happy music, i.e. it makes me happy, has a nice groove, animates to dance. What do you want more? \\:D/
Um, I don't understand why everyone seems to dislike this. It makes my booty shake. Involuntary booty shaking. This, I like.
Way too busy for me . . . but then my synapses don't fire quickly anymore.

Exactly!! It's great to hear things mixed up like this-in the same hour as the the Andrews Sisters! College radio was never this fun!
I could not agree with you and JM more. If I wanted to be force fed what everyone else thinks is popular or "good", I'd listen to the radio. I want to hear all forms of music --good or bad, I'll be my own judge thank you very much. Bill, thanks for all the hard work, it IS appreciated !!

Hey pretty girl, you want me to braid your hair? (pimp)
MAKE THE BAD MAN STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can\'t stop my butt from shaking....could get irritating, but on a first listen, it just makes me want to move ;-)
i\'m glad it\'s friday, this song doesn\'t sound so bad on fridays
I agree with Whisper*** and Lockjaw. Blech!
Thank god that song is finished.
Bad enough to spend time commenting. I never comment. This is just... bad.
Great song! (for me to poop on)
If you don\'t like this song you ain\'t dancin\'.
Sux. Totally. Stop it, please.
fine drums, good riddim, but goes on too long ...
Aaaaaaaaahhhhhh! Not again!
I may be in the minority here, but songs like this are one reason I love RP. If Bill only played the stuff we all liked, we\'d just be listening to the same 10 songs they play on commercial radio...
can\'t love every song, i guess but i really feel nauseous every time i hear this \'song\' please, please, please no more!!!!!!

very nice and fun !! would love to get the CD, or at least a reference. AMG points me to a hiphop band.
What CD is this on? Can\'t find it using an Amazon search. Thanks.
Jamaica meets Africa (perhaps India? Pakistan?) and the Bronx. I like it!
