Melinda was mine
'Til the time
That I found her
Holding Jim
And lovin' Him
Then Sue came along
Loved me strong
That's what I thought
Me and Sue
But that died, too
Don't know that I will
But until I can find me
A girl who'll stay
And won't play games behind me
I'll be what I am
A solitary man
Solitary man
I've had it to here
Bein' where
Love's a small word
A part-time thing
A paper ring
I know it's been done
Havin' one
Girl who loves me
Right or wrong
Weak or strong
Don't know that I will
But until I can find me
The girl who'll stay
And won't play games behind me
I'll be what I am
A solitary man
Solitary man
Don't know that I will
But until love can find me
And a girl who'll stay
And won't play games behind me
I'll be what I am
A solitary man

Gosh, that was awful. I normally love Johnny Cash, and despite Neil Diamond\'s frequent tackiness, I like this particular song a lot -- ND\'s recording of it, that is. But this recording is a real stinker.

No comment on this song, but it's not only the old stuff that is good. Have you ever heard his American Recordings album from circa 1994? Great stuff! "Delia's Gone" is one of the kewlist and darkly funny songs he has ever written and recorded. Also on the album are excellent renditions of such various sources as Loudon Wainwright's "The Man Who Couldn't Cry", Danzig's "13", Nick Lowe's "The Beast In Me" and by far the best rendition of the standard "Oh Bury Me Not (coupled with "A Cowboy's Prayer"). I love this album.
Bill, can we get some Delia's Gone up in here?? :DMoving. The guitar sounds a bit too poppy for my taste, though it makes a nice contrast with his earthly voice, on the other hand.
You write; 'he doesn't even sound like he's trying', Platypus, but someone like Johnny Cash doesn't need to try, he just does it and with that mighty, deep voice he almost always convinces me.
I can\'t decide if i like this or not. Great song, but his take sounds a little bit of a struggle. But, I like it since it is adding to the great diversity of radioparadise.
i have tried to enjoy this guy, but he doesnt sound like he is even trying.
I think there are now *four* Johnny Cash cover songs on the RP playlist -- and I love them all!!

You're right. The utter lack of a tune gives it away instantly.
I especially liked the song once I muted it.
God, he\'s a GIANT.
This track is such a perfect demonstration of his ability to take a song and make it his own. It\'s as if the insipid Neil Diamond record never existed.
