complete crap
Sigur Ros is playing with the Detroit Symphony this Thursday. See you at the Masonic Theater!

I strongly agree, it's unlistenable garbage
so fukin horrible
This song was used to good effect in the “Eurovision” movie soundtrack.
I've finally figured out their secret code.
Svefn g-englar is ralgnegnfevs spelt backwards!
Crafty little buggers.
Excuse me, "no actual lyrics," there are for sure lyrics, they're just Icelandic. You can find them easily and find translations. I'm certain this is not perfect but still, it does have meaning.

(English)
(Icelandic)

Into you
Inn í þig

(It's) so good to be (here)
(ÞAð er) svo gott að vera (hér)

But stop short
En stoppa stutt við

I rush around in an underwater shell
Ég flýt um í neðarsjávar hýði

(In a hotel)
(Á hóteli)

Directly connected to the electrical panel
Beintengdur við rafmagnstöfluna

(And fed)
(Og nærist)

Whoa, whoa
Tjú, tjú

Whoa, whoa
Tjú, tjú

But the wait makes me (sad)
En biðin gerir mig (leiðan)

Break (danger) kick me (and call on)
Brot (hættan) sparka frá mér (og kall á)

i have to go (help)
Ég verð að fara (hjálp)

Whoa, whoa, whoa
Tjú, tjú, tjú

Whoa, whoa, whoa
Tjú, tjú, tjú

Whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop
Tjú, tjú, tjú, tjú, tjú

I burst out and the peace in the air
Ég spring út og friðurinn í loft upp

(Bathed in a new light
(Baðaður nýju ljósi

I cry and I cry, disconnected)
Ég græt og ég græt, aftengdur)

A useless brain nursed and fed by sleep
ÓNýttur heili settur á brjóst og mataður af svefn

Sleepwalkers  (literal: "Sleep-angels")
Svefn-g-englum

Whoa, whoa, whoa
Tjú, tjú, tjú

Whoa, whoa, whoa
Tjú, tjú, tjú

Duh
Tjú

I didn't like this at first blush. I've since come to REALLY appreciate this group. Certainly not my favorite music or musicians, but still , it's music to my ears!

Thank you, William, for exposing me to artists I'd otherwise NEVER hear and experience -- and grow to not only appreciate, but love.

Well said!
RP provides this telling comment

"(no actual lyrics)"

I'm not a huge fan of Sigur Ros but I've got this track pegged at 7. Somehow the repetitive mewling of a hallucinating cat from outer space keeps working for me. Huh.
Oh, good. A REMIX of cacophonous awfulness.

There isn't a low enough rating for this self-indulgent tripe. I would rather listen to silence than be forced to have this in my ears.
the worst music I have ever heard.
It just couldn’t be anyone else. Love it or loathe it - and I’m very firmly in the love camp - it seems to be a unique sound. They can be surprisingly engaging live too.

This is the kind of stuff that keeps me up in the middle of the night,
Talk about not being able to carry a tune in a bucket. Thanks for the exposure Bill, yet this seems a track some of us can live perfectly happy ever after, without ever hearing again.

I enjoy RP for exactly this kind of polarizing music. I want to hear songs that some hate and some love!

(Not that it really matters what any one of us individually thinks, but I'm milquetoast on this one, somewhere right in the middle)

Songs are a time & a place for me. THIS song (whole album, in fact) will always be a former girlfriend's room, in the wee hours, lit only by the computer screen, while this CD played in the background. Under the right circumstances, this sort of music is ideal, this song is transcendent (and deserves a 10) and even the long version is WAY too short. Under those circumstances, the whole album was too short. (So was a 3-day weekend, for that matter.) Fast-forward a year, and it's like stumbling across a photo of her or a letter she wrote when I thought I'd found and burned them all. A few of months ago, I would have given it a 1. But since memory is such a tricky thing, I abstain from a numerical rating for this one. I guess you can burn letters and photos, but you can't burn memories (haven't tried electro-shock, admittedly.)

EST is making a comeback. Lots of people want brain damage.
Every now and then a song comes along that when played, changes the mood of the whole room.  This is one of those songs.  20 years on and still affecting.
That guitar in the intro...   wow.
What a pleasure to hear Sigur Ros on the radio! Only Radio Paradise can do that ;) Thank you!!
First time I heard them, it was live. That was just wow! If you get a chance to see them live, go for it! The recording is not able to transcribe the beauty and power that emanate from these songs...
(sorry if my english is not so good...)
SOLVED: the mystery of the Sigur Ros singer.

Icelandic? No, I don't think so...
They are fantastic live
Just saw them live in Toronto, wow.  The performance of this song was transformative!  Do yourself a favour and go see them if you get a chance.

Non-english morcheeba, love it.
Great dream-moody atmospherics but the neurotic singing in Icelandic leaves me cold. It'd be a hoot if the guy was singing about changing the oil in his car or something equally mundane...
I'm not sure why contemplative songs like this rate so lowly. Does everything have to be "I Can't Drive 55"?

The first time I heard this song was Einsteinian.
i like it but I prefer the full 9 minute version

Length?  How long do you stay immersed in the hotsprings?

Could be 3 times longer from my perspective.

LOVE this. When I happened to catch a high-def broadcast of Sigur Ros's Heima several years ago, I swear it was a nirvana-inducing, out-of-body experience. But even without the visuals, the music is still just as balming, uplifting, Zen, gorgeous.
Masterpiece (for those who can hear). 10.
It's so sad to see such low rate for this great and unique music...
Soon I'll be on their gig in castle near Verona, can't wait for this... The whole vacation in Italy appears in my plans because of this gig! {#Angel}

This is truncated? 'Kinell! I'm glad the full version isn't played because I'd lapse into a catatonic state. The soporific effect of this song is that of a full bottle of Dreamy Sleepy Nighty Snoozy Snooze. This would have been perfect in the days when I smoked blow. Pure somnolence {#Sleep}

I'm not really a Sigur Ross fan but I do have to admire how different they are. I certainly don't think I could listen to a full album but the odd track mixed in with other bands is probably best for me. What we need is an internet radio station that would play an eclectic mix....
Not my cuppa, but I wouldn't denigrate those who like it.

Ridiculous this terrible supersweet violin-coating over each and any song. No rythm, hardly any melody and this sickening "language".
The whole SR-thing is a hoax. It can't be nothing else. How old might their fans (fans?? really??) be? Twelve? Just eight? Liking lullabies? Or are they even adults? Grannies maybe? I just can't figure it out.
I read about them, downloaded their albums and was terrified. I deleted all! Then I read again, wondered if I had been ignorant and loaded the same albums again and gave them a real chance another time. Same thing: I could hardly stand a single song. This pussy-attitude. This whining. This childish melancholy. Please point out a single, just ONE (!) single song of quality and I take anything said back and download that song a third time for good!

Well, I do not agree at all... But i do understand... I think you either love sigur ros or you hate them... I belong to the first party! Well, i don't simply love them. I adore them. They make me drifting away - into a world that probably doesn't exist - not even in Iceland! Sometimes surely the songs are hard to be caught. Sometimes only listening to them is not enough. You have to feel them... Sounds ridiculous? Maybe, but that's how i see it. But there's one song that goes further - from my point of view the best sigur ros song (well, fair enough, there are a few more. "i gear" from hvarf/heim must be mentioned at this place). it's the untiteled last song (in some places it's called popplagid - the pop song) on their brilliant untitled album ( ). It's an almost 12 minutes song, starting smooth and - well, some call it boring - but it keeps on going; harder, faster, deeper... till it all bursts at some point. i have listened to this song a thousand times but it still gives me the shivers when it's all exploding... give it a try and let me know if it really is all that bad. I have been playing that song to people only listening to george michael, britney spears and other commercial pop music but they have all been blown away such as people who are really into indie, rock, heavy stuff... and if it still doesn't move you, smoke some weed beforehand... that'll do for sure! ;)

mAtt

...timeless, perfect art - this track built sigur rós' following for a good reason...

I agree with dmax and others. It would be nice to hear the original version now and then. Maybe Bill could keep the two versions - alternating with each play.

A little tidbit about this song... \"Svefn g-englar\" means \"sleepwalkers\" in Icelandic.

This is a remix/edit issued by the record company. The main complaint I (& a lot of you) had about the album version is that it\'s too darned long. Let us know what you think. -bg

Yes, its a guy singing. I saw this band a couple months ago and although pretty, its a one trick pony. All the songs sound like this one.
