Every once in a while I check on in on my retirement plan: the Cake vinyl boxed set going price on eBay
Hi! Whats going on there? Do you need help? But I am unfortunately to far away.
Greeting from Germany.
Did you guys notice that the songs on repeat get better votes? Fantastic, since everbody is given time to really listen to it. Especially after the 50th time I was starting to give it a better vote :-)
70 pieces of CAKE for Bill's birthday !!
Nothing breaks when you are awake and ready to take care of things.
[edit ]Now it is repeating the bumpers.
OOH I think we have a new accidentalm infinity loop of a song on RP! Bit like the one a few years back
Are you OK over there RP ?
Is this early birthday CAKE? One slice would have been great, but I'm all Caked out now
three times the same song? Bill fell asleep on the repeat button
All songs are on repeat guys ... :D
Can someone call them, and make sure they are OK..?
So good you just had to play it more than once, twice..!!
OK,  the birthday celebrations have definitely started early !   Got to be 20+....strike that...40+  times in a row for this track - too much 🍰 can be harmful to your health!. Even the "Skip" button doesn't help.   Happy Birthday btw Bill
It's not bad, but it's repeating itself again and again and again!
the needle is stuck....
OK that's  6...7....8.....  15....18 (?) times in a row for this track...and counting.  Bill....the needle's stuck !   Perhaps the birthday party has started early
Looks like RP Main Mix is playing the same song again and again.

Then you should be listening right now.   It's been on a 15 minute loop so far!

I just LOVE everything Cake does... but admit this song would be better with a little Cowbell added in...

But it does at least have a vibra-slap.
That was too short!  It was also crying out for John McCrea's vocals.  Catchy nonetheless.

Am I the only one hearing a whole lot of Tull here? Hell, this could easily BE Tull.

Well, now that you mentioned it, all it needs is a flute.

Love the random grunting and yelling in the background of this track. So Cake. Great little tune.

This song should always be followed by Comfort Eagle. I love it, but it's really just an intro to the next one, which is one of their best, in my mind.
Cake is my favorite dessert.
Is it me, or is there a pretty overt homage to Crack The Sky's "Surf City" throughout this song?

I'm happy they still exist.
Some songs are just great for whatever reason - I just can't explain  it :)
CAKE!  YIPPEE!

Saw them at Arco Arena here in Sacramento. I feel lucky. Great innovative band.
super Cake - Arco Arena {#Crown}

CAKE! Unmistakable irreverence and reverence at the same time. Jethro/Cake (like red velvet)
This sounds disturbingly retro in a Yes/Jethro Tull-stylee. Kudos to Cake for experimentation, but this experiment sends unpleasant shudders up my spine. The horror, the horror...

True.  But given the importance of 'technique' in all things in life, whazz wrong with some explicit instruction?

Not many know Gentle Giant. They were a great band.

Had to look them up. This song definitely has a early-mid 70s feel...It's like one of those bands I've heard of but don't much about (Foghat, Blue Oyster Cult): you know of them, but you don't know them.

Good for Cake. Another song of theirs that I don't hate and dammit even like. Maybe that's because the singer was not "singing."

That vibra slap looks like a novelty toy from the 50s. Pretty sure you could turn it into a sex toy if you really tried.

Now its Sleep Train Arena. It will always be Arco to me. Hopefully we will be building a new stadium in the near future?

I loved that band!  I wore out my vinyl copy of The Power and the Glory

Correct..would require flute to be Tull.. and Tull often changed up his rhythm.  unclehud wrote:

I only like two kinds of pie.  Hot pie and cold pie.

I have a new sense of appreciation having seen CAKE play this one live. John McCrea is on acoustic guitar.

I am generally not a fan of Cake, but this one is quite tasty.

My Ukrainian neighbor in Portland loves this, as do I.

One of my favorite Cake pieces.  It needs some dramatic video footage.  I just don't know what it is.  Guess that's why i'm a programmer and not a movie director.

This is my ring tone. :)
The groove in this song is so good!
It's really too bad it's not longer.  Still, one of my favorite Cake tracks believe it or not.
Wow, it does have a bit of a Gentle Giant vibe to it.

Did Manny & Lo by John Lurie play before it?  The transition is very hard to notice.

briefly I go to arrange an appropriate commentary for this

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Seriously though, I really like these guys. Going The Distance is my favorite. Followed ever so closely by Mahna Mahna.

reason06 wrote:

Yes, it's only a couple of minutes. And there are no vocals, so you might not have recognized it as Cake. The vocals are usually the most distinctive part of a Cake song.

7 because it's a good instrumental, +1 because of the Northern California reference = 8  {#Angel}
3 due to its length.  If it could have ended before it started I would have rated it higher.

Have you seen Cake there? I did -- Cake opened for No Doubt in the late 1990s. I was disappointed by No Doubt and thoroughly enjoyed Cake.
I can't believe it. A Cake song I like. An instrumental. Figures. I guess I like 'em till they open their mouths.

True, but funny enough my favorite song from the album isn't played on RP (Commissioning a Symphony in C).

Yes indeed. Short skirt and a loooong jacket.

Good ole Echo Arena. Yeah, we coughed it up and saw McCartney there, but it would would take a reincarnation of John or George to cause this concert goer to want to go back any time soon. There are just so many finer venues in Northern CA...
Right on, I know all the words this one...

I just bought Cake's Comfort Eagle because of the songs played on Radio Paradise. I've got the other Cake albums, too, so I only needed a little prodding to buy it. It's a pretty entertaining set of songs. Unfortunately, I found Arco Arena a bit of a pointless piece. It does lead well into the next song "Comfort Eagle", which should definately get some airplay here. That's my vote, at least. Keep the Cake coming...just pass on Arco Arena. Chip

The bass line is a direct descendant of a tune on Genesis' Trespass album - talk about obscure sampling. What's all this suckiness about? "Long line of cars" is a real hoot!
