At this point, every time I hear the haters whine about a vocalist they don't like, or a band whose music they proclaim to be drivel, I am compelled to up my rating on that particular piece of music by at least a notch. The more derision, the more I upgrade my rating of the artist(s). Gotta counteract all that negative spin somehow
When this single was released , the US was experiencing a major drought.
It was one of their most popular, but also a tight song with great lyrics!

You are not in the minority our friend, her voice is lovely.
This whole album is a classic. Love it!

Continental accent Kate Hepburn had.
For me it's a 7 for this version, but I'd give at least 8 to their MTV Unplugged version. It's the first version I heard (at least the first I listened to properly, which might be why I prefer it.

I feel quite the opposite! I can't stand this stuff but I think Natalie's solo material is soooo much better - Tigerlily especially!
Natalie in 1989: agd3 :: Neko in 2018 : Bill

I'd be quite happy to never hear this song again.

Natalie Merchant is a great singer, and became one after this album.  I dont want to be down on this song or her, but I saw her on the tour for this album and she was better that this song and became even better later.  Truly one of the greats of our time, just dont judge by this recording.

I'm a NM fan, but in my humble opinion based on owning two of the band's albums, her vocal range is limited, so while she has a nice voice, it's not a great voice. John Farnham has a great voice, as does Linda Ronstadt. I keep wanting to hear her reach a new level to finish a song or a verse, but it never comes.

Bill and Rebecca, we must meet one day. We like all the same music! Thank you and keep up the great work.

My only criticism of Natalie Merchant is her lack of range - she can sing a greater range, but for some reason, writes songs that don't use it.

Natalie Merchant.

Oh yeah
Great guitar solo...one of many on this record—-not flashy, not long, just tasteful.

Yep, typical WNY accent.

Insufferable Merchant. And she seems to have an affected accent on this song.

Looks like this is one of it's first plays, Bill has mentioned this bug a couple times before, hopefully he can fix it before it goes on rotation.

Must be the sound of silent falling snow?

How's that for weather?
