Every day I get in the queue (Too much, Magic Bus)
To get on the bus that takes me to you (Too much, Magic Bus)
I'm so nervous, I just sit and smile (Too much, Magic Bus)
You house is only another mile (Too much, Magic Bus)

Thank you, driver, for getting me here (Too much, Magic Bus)
You'll be an inspector, have no fear (Too much, Magic Bus)
I don't want to cause no fuss (Too much, Magic Bus)
But can I buy your Magic Bus? (Too much, Magic Bus)

Nooooooooo!

I don't care how much I pay (Too much, Magic Bus)
I wanna drive my bus to my baby each day (Too much, Magic Bus)
I want it, I want it, I want it, I want it ... (You can't have it!)
Thruppence and sixpence every day
Just to drive to my baby
Thruppence and sixpence each day
'Cause I drive my baby every way

Magic Bus, Magic Bus, Magic Bus ...

I said, now I've got my Magic Bus (Too much, Magic Bus)
I said, now I've got my Magic Bus (Too much, Magic Bus)
I drive my baby every way (Too much, Magic Bus)
Each time I go a different way (Too much, Magic Bus)

I want it, i want it, I want it, I want it ...

Every day you'll see the dust (Too much, Magic Bus)
As I drive my baby in my Magic Bus (Too much, Magic Bus)

First you said The Who was "Before my time.", then you say you're old. Which is it?
While in a neighborhood rock-n-roll band in the sixties we would listen to this song and really get stoked up on this song.  Good time, good memory.

Just like Ben E. King's "Stand By Me," which absolutely nailed the I-VI-IV-V progression on strings—you never thought to question it...it just sounded so right—Townsend delivers the ultimate acoustic guitar rock rhythm'n'lead. As good as it gets along side Keith Richards's work on Beggar's Banquet and Lennon's on Help! and Rubber Soul. Yeah, you don't ordinarily associate Lennon with guitar, but he was one hell of a rhythm guitarist.
What a mess of a song !
Could some today music sound as unfinished !
Saw the "farewell tour" in 1982.  After they left stage, every one was yelling Who, I was yelling Magic Bus - came back and played Magic Bus for first encoure - needless to say was amped.

Live from Leeds was one of my favorite albums as a kid.
Listen to the fadeout of this.  You can hear Pete say "I SAW YA!"  Keith Moon was trying all day to disrupt the backing vocal session, so they tied him to a chair in the control booth.  He wriggled himself out of it just as they were finishing it and he jumped up right at the end.

yep.

I've always been a huge Who fan but compared to the rest of their catalogue, this one pales in comparison.

love this song,
Yay!!!!!  Leave it to RP to have the good sense and class to play a Who song besides Teenage Wasteland!!!  Now if only we could get the long version from Live at Leeds.

Oh yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
The Who and the Beatles were both cool enough.  I doubt that one needed to or whether it even mattered whether they copied off of one another.  They were all on the same trip.

Actually the song was written probably in 1965 or 66, BEFORE Magical Mystery Tour (1967), although The Who didn't release it until 1968.

The original magic bus was Further and it made its epic trip in 1964.

I'd love to hear the live version again. I have it on vinyl, but I no longer have a working turntable.
A second CD version of Live at Leeds was released something like 3-4 years ago with the full live version of "Magic Bus"--that is, without the electronica Townshend dropped in in the studio for the original release. In a way, then, it's more faithful to the live performance than the original vinyl or the first CD.

Kesey's kid is selling Magic Bus memorabilia on EBay, check it out.
Magical Mystery Tour imitation ?
The only problem with this tune: it's far too short!
I'm a Who fan, but this has aged a bit.
I want it, I want it, I want to hear it again...!

Not in the mood for this. It's not the 70s anymore.

Stunning tune - even better on 'Live at Leeds'
That's easy: 10! Though the Live At Leeds Version is even better .....

Always wondered what that 2nd line was; thanks! And yes, what a great classic song. Gotta love the early Who stuff.
who's this?
In my top 10 of all songs. When it came out my friends greeted each other with the phrase "magic bus" in the same vocal inflection pete has. It ment many things to us then and now.

I just saw the Who in Portland and must say they sounded incredible. I saw them twice in their heyday ('73 and '77) and it was a great show. Very nice light show with screens showing various clips, psychadelic imagery, etc. Especially excellent versions of "Baba O'Reilly", "Won't Get Fooled Again", "Emminence Front" (sorry about the spelling...). Worth seeing if you haven't ever seen them or it's been years.

Yup, fun tune, but definitely NOT a classic.

I know Paul Simon has "hop on the bus, Gus." But where do they say Gus in this one?

I'm so glad to have lived in the time of Moonie! Love the percussion in this classic. Goin' to see what's left of the Who in November!
Wooooo!
Out-f*@&king-standing! My nickname back in the day was Gus, and I believe this is one of only two songs in recorded history (of any note) that says Gus. Cosmic.
Awesome! (But the Live At Leeds version is better, and surely among the most incredible pieces of music ever recorded!)

Interesting question. I'll have to Google it!
Oh man, I still have my 45rpm of this one.

Oh that Enchanted Mass Transit Vehicle . . . As a Who fanatic all Whosongs are loved . . . but Live at Leeds version of MB is still my favorite.
gets my toes-a-tappin'!

I love this friggin' song
Here in 2006, I think we could all use a little of the magic bus. I am envious of all the fun they had in the 60s.....
I wonder how many of you out there remember when thrupence and sixpence each way would get you to see your bayby ??
I remember on holidays, years ago, we drove to Brittany in our old VW-Bus. We permanently were listening this song.
Hey you just woke me up !!! Greeeeaaat stuff!!

Excellent tune. RP also has "Squeeze Box" but it hasn't been played in forever. Hearing that one would be great.

Great band. It saddens me to see Roger plugging Time-Life CD's. Ringo, too.
This is the best song in the world. Ever. No hyperbole here, in fact i am now going to login under an assumed name and vote 10 for it twice, thus making it a 20!
Great song!
the live at leeds version is legendary.
There are so many GREAT Who song\'s !*!*!*!*! This is one of them !*!*!* :D
