Sirens ring, the shots ring out
A stranger cries, screams out loud
I had my world strapped against my back
I held my hands, never knew how to act

And the same black line that was drawn on you
Was drawn on me
And now it's drawn me in
6th Avenue heartache

Below me was a homeless man
I'm singin' songs I knew complete
On the steps alone, his guitar in hand
It's fifty years, stood where he stands

Now walkin' home on those streets
The river winds move my feet
Subway steam, like silhouettes in dreams
They stood by me, just like moonbeams

Look out the window, down upon that street
And gone like a midnight was that man
But I see his six strings laid against that wall
And all his things, they all look so small

I got my fingers crossed on a shooting star
Just like me just moved on

Was thinking that this is a classic and leaning towards a 7, but that nice rimshot snare is just so damn good…. love that they left it dry and perfect just hanging out there. Great tune, great production.

A classic back into the RP mix - nice to hear again (once in a while)

Well thanks for the laugh, by God I'll bet you do sound great.

What the heck? Not  even 7 stars?? I'm usually pretty good at guessing what the average rating is for most songs.  This 6.9 stumps me. 🤔

BTW~ geo. Harrison taught JD to play guitar..........hear the influence....yup!

That may be true, but the slide guitar you hear is Mike Campbell, from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers....but he definitely has some George Harrison in his style.
It kills me to think that I bought this CD in 1992.  Years!  Thanks for playing it though.
I'm comfortable with this song, but it does nothing to inspire me. Just very nice background music that does not make me think.

Heh - so the chip is off the old block. Seems to me this 6th Ave apple fell straight from the (positively) 4th St tree.

{#Cheers}
Is it Jon Brion that played the guitar solo on this track?

Didn't know that Dylan's boy was in the Wallflowers.

Nice.  Rambling electric country.

That's odd.  In my experience for most couples it's the woman who likes it and the guy who just sort of has to grit his teeth and deal.

Nah, the wife just looks at me and says can't I play something else, SOON !!!

6->7

My recent purchase of one their albums (not this one, but also RP-inspired) has greatly increased my appreciation.

Takes me back to when I was in a band...drummer wrote a parody, "6th Avenue Hardee's"
Good days, indeed!
This song makes me happy every time I hear it.
Takes me back to a time when my only worries where if there was pizza for lunch.

Safe to say he's better looking than his dad (but then so are most barnyard animals).

Dig it. Jakob is easy on the ears and eyes.

Now I know why I don't like this one as much as other Wallflowers tunes. That guy's voice will spoil anything, in my humble and bitter opinion.

I don't know what it is about this song....why I want to sing along ... it's a perfect song for me.
Not bad!

Whether the apple falls from the tree or not has never been debated.  It's the distance from the tree that said apple winds up that has inspired the saying you are attempting to paraphrase...

This was released in 1996, not '92

So the apple does fall from the tree. huh

That's it! That's why it irritates after a few listens.
Over time this one loses its luster.

Maybe you are supposed to.  It's about those that went before you... in particular perhaps, not always the famous ones, but he's crossing his fingers on a star....

LIke it a lot.

Love it.

I was thinking the same thing. Good ear.

Now get back to work!

Both of us.

well it sounds very much like 'sign language', from his daddy. but it's a listenable, nice tune.

But if that were the case, it would be called "Absolutely 6th Avenue Heartache Hat Blues".

Country twang for an homage to NYC is weird. But I like it. 7

Good Song from the 1990's, and a good way to end my work day. Thank you Bill for the awesome music you played today. {#Daisy}

Common.

This is probably my favorite Wallflowers song.
Try as I might, I can't make any sense of the lyrics.

Ah, from when "Alternative" was "Pop" briefly.
excellent tune from a classic 90's album
Second time today that I've heard this song. Bizarro!
