I can hear the merry gypsies play
Mama mama look at Ammaro
She's a-playin with the radio
La, la, la, la...
And the caravan has all my friends
It will stay with me until the end
Gypsy Robin, Sweet Emma Rose
Tell me everything I need to know
La, la, la...
Turn up your radio and let me hear the song
Switch on your electric light
Then we can get down to what is really wrong
I long to hold you tight so I can feel you
Sweet lady of the night I shall reveal you
Turn it up, turn it up, little bit higher radio
Turn it up, turn it up, so you know, radio
La, la, la, la...
And the caravan is painted red and white
That means ev'rybody's staying overnight
Barefoot gypsy player round the campfire sing and play
And a woman tells us of her ways
La, la, la, la...
Turn up your radio and let me hear the song
Switch on your electric light
Then we can get down to what is really wrong
I long to hold you tight so I can feel you
Sweet lady of the night I shall reveal you
Turn it up, turn it up, little bit higher, radio
Turn it up, that's enough, so you know it's got soul
Radio, radio turn it up, hum
La, la, la, la...
The Human Race- We're livin' and learnin'. Hopefully.
God I love his early stuff. Shame he's turned into such a bellend, but you can't have everything.
I Agree on both counts!
This one gets a 9 from me.

I give this a 9 and the Last Waltz version a 10. I mean, the guy is wearing a purple jumpsuit and doing leg kicks. He ACTUALLY drops the mic as he walks off-stage so, anything less than a 10 just seems crazy there.
Back in 1978, I went to see The Last Waltz in NYC at one of the few movie theatres where it was playing (it was initially a limited release). It was one of those great theatres of old - big, with a balcony and red velvet curtains, big screen, great sound. And it was within a week of the film's release. We didn't know who was going to play next, and I was probably only familiar with half the acts at the time (I went for Dylan more than paying attention to much else). It was thrilling, maybe better than being there with the images playing huge in front of us.
That's not the deal as I'm sure you can probably figure. He's a legendary recording artist, that many a generation have newly discovered since this was recorded 5 decades ago, and he's just not your thing. This is okay.
Everyone is now informed that you don't care for him and dismissively believe this is because his music his "old", though. So you've got that.
this album was an old girlfriend's sex music....she'd put this on and it was off to fun time (ah, the memories)...could be why i think it's a great effin album - or, it's just a good effin album

I give this one an 8, a 9 for the "It's Too Late To Stop Now - live" version, and perhaps an 8 for the Last Waltz version (but only because seeing Robbie Robertson laughing his head off watching a drunk Van on stage...)
Please.
Those are three VERY good albums.
Please.

The story from the book "Across the Great Divide" is that VM had a last-minute freak out at the Last Waltz about his purple jumpsuit and wanted to run back to the hotel and change, but didn't have time. I guess he compensated with leg kicks...
Please.
Or Hard Nose the Highway.
Or Veedon Fleece.
Those kicks were truly awesome.
Back when he actually seemed to enjoy performing.
The Last Waltz version is a 9, maybe even a 10.

That's what made it great! Those kicks in the air and the look on Robbie Robertsons face....
Definitely not the case. I discovered Van in 1994 when I was 22, knew nothing about him, and was hooked at first listen.
Great song.
I am pretty sure that would be two voices. I don't remember the Van being in CCR.....
...and that such the idea to take off one day all to pass in the RP Station only the songs that as much time closed in the trunk of RP Station....
have a nice day!
Can I mambo dogface to the banana patch?
With apologies to Steve Martin.

HUH?
I think he's, like, French or something...

That would be because Van Morrison is singing all of them. :duh:
Yeah, he needs to get a new singer for his band.
Just kidding, I like Van.
Yes, this is one of his Best!
I guess that's where we Yanks have a cultural advantage: When we hear about caravans, we only think of horse-drawn wagons of yore heading across the prairie. Or maybe some gypsies... but you get the idea. Certainly nothing we expect to encounter presently. Thus the wonderfully nostalgic feeling of this song!
Oh, and regarding your thoughts on Van, you have your "noggin up your arse." (Hope I said that right!) Cheers!

You must be kidding?

I think I'm going to start a collection of these quotes.

One of the greatest lines in all of rock 'n' roll: "Toin it up!!"
What the hell....?!
I guess everybody's entitled to their own opinion, but when that opinion is just pointless and ridiculous, it shouldn't even count.
Boober, indeed!
Ye-ah!
