Driving that train
High on cocaine
Casey Jones you better watch your speed
Trouble ahead, trouble behind
And you know that notion just crossed my mind.

This old engine makes it on time
Leaves Central Station 'bout a quarter to nine
Hits River Junction at seventeen to
At a quarter to ten you know it's travlin' again.

Driving that train
High on cocaine
Casey Jones you better watch your speed
Trouble ahead, trouble behind
And you know that notion just crossed my mind

Trouble ahead, oh, Lady in red,
Take my advice you'd be better off dead.
Switchman's sleeping, train hundred and two is
On the wrong track and headed for you.

Driving that train
High on cocaine,
Casey Jones you better watch your speed.
Trouble ahead, trouble behind,
And you know that notion just crossed my mind.

Drive your train!

Trouble with you is the trouble with me
Got two good eyes but you still don't see
Come round the bend, you know it's the end
The fireman screams and the engine just gleams

Driving that train
High on cocaine
Casey Jones you better watch your speed
Trouble ahead, trouble behind
And you know that notion just crossed my mind

Driving that train
High on cocaine
Casey Jones you better watch your speed
Trouble ahead, trouble behind
And you know that notion just crossed my mind

Driving that train
High on cocaine
Casey Jones you better watch your speed
Trouble ahead, trouble behind
And you know that notion just crossed my mind

Driving that train
High on cocaine
Casey Jones you better watch your speed
Trouble ahead, trouble behind
And you know that notion just crossed my mind

And you know that notion just crossed my mind

So predictable.

A Dead tune comes on, and all the 'open minded' folks who listen to RP will come out and start the chorus of it all.

Hey, we all love music, as long as it's music we love.

Haha, so true! I just LOVE the music I love.

sorry just feel like a little piling on - I didn't cut my hair and I'd really venture to guess that I have and have had jobs you'd envy every day of your life. I get paid really well too....how does all this fit into your puckered world view?

*snort*
I'm with you, I got paid enough to become more or less, self reliant....(brb, just tossing a log on my wood burning boiler/stove that heats my thermal store and looks amazing in my restored 1850's cottage) and I got it all while maintaining my social and political moral centre. And I will NEVER own a Lexus and I'm rather proud of that.

I suppose next time, instead of playing the Dead, RP can just put in some Michael Bolton, perhaps some Clay Aiken or Rueben Studdard. If that's what people like nowadays, so be it. Hopefully soon, RP will start airing some "Refinance your home today" commercials. Then ClearChannel will chime in, and buy RP. Let's all go to church on Sunday and pray for such!

Yea, suppose so, that's why Clay Aiken is so needed.

"Outside it's raining, but I'll just go home,
Someday your heart will just let him go" (from 'Run to Me' by Aiken)

The existentialism of Clay's lyrics are enough to cause a paradigm shift in the entire recording industry. Clay's vocals are enough to inspire terrorists to lay down their bombs, and Western militarys to lay down their guns. Is Clay the messiah?

Are there really only two or three "musical" choices other than The Grateful Dead in your universe?  Good luck with your Clay Aiken obsession and your inclination for false dichotomies.
Some of Garcia's sweetest licks.  That's what makes this song so good !
how on earth does this song rate a 5.8??!!!? I don't even LIKE the Dead and LOVE this tune. Get with it folks!
I never really understood the point of this song...unless it was just to piss off the record company with all that cocaine nonsense. Funny how it turned out to be one the band's biggest "hits."
I hate giving songs ones. But this one really deserves it. It's an earworm of the most vicious sort.
the first time i ever got drunk was while listening to this album. this song in particular was on when i realized i was lit. lemonade and whisky. i think i was about 13.
Sweet!!!

Oh please. You don't think "Something the train, driving cocaine" repeated 850 times with zero deviation in tune or intonation might get a little...wearing?
Not if you're on cocaine!

I just dropped it from a 2 to a 1.
I started at 1. My former art school roommate ruined any possibility that I might like a Grateful Dead song at any point in time.
Love the dead, but really, there are so many better songs than this. . . . I listen to RP so I can here things NOT played on the other radio
I just dropped it from a 2 to a 1.

You see this is what I mean ... (I guess growing up around draft-dogers has slanted my view of the dead) I dont get the attraction or the appeal... but you know what, after seeing the replies to my previous email In the big picture - Who cares ! Listen to what you like ... in a 100 years - who is going to care? Rock on fellow listeners... it may not be my cup of tea, but really ... so what

I just sat here for minutes thinking what to say - but in the end I can't even imagine what this sounds like to someone hearing it for the first time. (I'm sure I will hear about it from the rest of the RP'ers.) Made in America - and Built to Last - songs like this are part of our mythical fabric and our very real conversation about what it is to be American and what it is to be human.
One of 2 Dead songs I never want to hear again. Truckin is the other one. Coming from a Deadhead you gotta listen.
11 yrs ago ... Jerry died ...
Damn you milehighYinzer!!!
Do I have a comment regarding this song? NO This is the first time I've had the first comment for any song though!!
this rated a 4.9 before I got here. Jesus good God.
