My aunt did the whole ancestry research some years back and found out we trace back to a guy who fell off the Mayflower. A few years ago I met a guy in a pub who traced back to the same guy. 2 out of 20 million! And he ended up in the Peanuts Thanksgiving Special to boot.
Well, that makes us cousins (a few centuries removed).
John Howland is the dude who fell off the Mayflower. I'm not a member of the society, and didn't know his name until it came up with my future "in-laws". Seems my daughter and her boyfriend are related (probably about as closely as you and I are).
For the record, all according to my sister who tracks this stuff, we're descended from 3 Mayflower arrivers. The number of Mayflower descendants in the US is (I think) around 20 million. Special is only a slight embellishment.

Ignoring the additional contempt of court finding against DJT this morning, and the threat of throwing his ass in jail being directed at him from the judge (instead of the usual direction given to defense counsel about "instructing your client to avoid....)"...
The Trump stock grift continues to be a low-grade crime series playing out in real-time. In today's episode, the accounting firm used by Trump Media (a firm of 7 or 8 people) is told by the SEC to cease all work for SEC-registered clients for being a "sham audit mill".
There is no immediate claim that statements issued by Trump Media are fraudulent, but it's an amazing coincidence that Trump can find the needle in a haystack that will support fraudulent filings. Fake financial records to banks... "mis-coded" payments to bunnies and porn stars... an audit firm that's shuttered over fraud... It's not the justice system that's crooked.
That is pretty much correct. Allow me to elaborate from my education and understanding of my history as a descendant of the original settlers. Bear in mind all of the following will be strictly off the top of my head. I am sure that I will be fact checked and corrected ...
But here goes.
Many of initial 13 Colonies were indeed born of religious refugees. We had the Puritans on the Mayflower that landed in Massachusetts fled because they refused to acknowledge the Monarch of England to be the head of the Anglican Church.
Maryland is where the Catholics fled to and Pennsylvania was where the Quakers led by William Penn split to. Some of the Southern Colonies were more owned by enterprises for raising crops and what not for export back to England. Religion was not the inspiration for these particular Colonies.
The criminal part is really reprehensible. Most all of them were indentured servants (our original slaves) who were inmates of England's debtor prisons and sold by the Crown to various people who paid off their debt. They were then taken to the Colonies to work off their debt to the new owners with freedom the result once all debts were satisfied. Also usually left out is that Black Colonists as well as white owned these indentured servants.. There were actually quite a few Black slave owners back in those days.
The English prisoners that were the worst that no one wanted to buy were shipped off to Australia which was England's penal colony at the time. Australian's are mostly descendants of the exiled English criminals.
One nice thing about the English / British is that they did not have the habit of raping the indigenous unlike the Spanish and other Europeans. Few know that Mexicans are not the indigenous of Mexico. Mexicans are the result of the rape of the Aztec and Maya, the actual indigenous people. Cortez and Pizarro were the perps of that. IIRC Pizarro kept going south into what is now South America and basically fucked the Inca into extinction. The land in the US that is attributed to the Mexico was actually Spanish that the Mexicans won in their War Of Independence.
The Spanish worked all the way up the California coast to just north of San Francisco with their network of Missions built by Father Junipero Serra. They were all connected by a road called The El Camino Real (The King's Highway) which eventually became US 101. The road was lined with Mission style bells. The were pretty much gone by the end of the 60's having been stolen and taken away by vandals and what not. I remember them from my trips down to place called Gilroy to visit relatives. You may have heard of the place already ;) That stretch was pretty much the last place they were seen.
The Russians had a foothold north of the Spanish territory up to around Oregon. The land above was mostly French. Eventually Lewis and Clark made it the Pacific Northwest after the US bought the French Territory in the Louisiana Purchase. We bought Alaska shortly after that from the Russians. And Trump allegedly wanted to buy Iceland from Denmark at one time. We still don't know if he was joking. That will of course depend on who you ask.
That's enough to clarify what you recalled in your post.
Cheers !
Thank you, Kurt. I think it must take some guts to face those facts for any fellow countryman / -woman.
Blahblah home of the free/brave, etc. greatest country on Earth, etc. greatest democracy, etc. hoot ...after watching the history of genocide of the Natives, upholding of slavery (long after European countries) and greatest catalyst of capitalism on steroids up to mankind's own demise, declared way into mankind's doom.
It is one thing to be a descendent of the Founders, but to a descendent of the ancestors of the Founders is even worse in the current political climate.
Some perspective for your truncated "timeline."
All Europeans today are a mix. The genetic recipe for a typical European would be roughly equal parts Yamnaya and Anatolian farmer, with a much smaller dollop of African hunter-gatherer. But the average conceals large regional variations: more “eastern cowboy” genes in Scandinavia, more farmer ones in Spain and Italy, and significant chunks of hunter-gatherer DNA in the Baltics and eastern Europe. “To me, the new results from DNA are undermining the nationalist paradigm that we have always lived here and not mixed with other people,” Gothenburg’s Kristiansen says. “There’s no such thing as a Dane or a Swede or a German.” Instead, “we’re all Russians, all Africans.”
Please understand that my use of the term Founders are those of the Revolution who fought the war and established or Founded this country. Their ancestors that I refer to are the original settlers. The ones who got here at least 125 years before the revolution and settled the land that became the country. Their DNA is irrelevant to this conversation. The Founders are their descendants.
Now I finally understand why Americans call me Hun!
A history teacher in high-school (WWI & II soldier), back in the 1970s seriously ventured to spread the idea that Americans had no history and that they all were a bunch of criminals and religious zealots who fled Europe for reasons of either (mostly) persecution (criminal or religious) or adventure (very few).

Apologies, but the iPad RP post doesnât include a way for me to use raw HTML. If someone can embed this video of this gentlemanâs behavior, Iâd be appreciative.
Spoiler: he moves on her like a bitch.

As long as people insist that theyâre separate in some way - not unique, but not a part of the âmainstreamâ - then they see themselves as either above (the chosen) or below (always been on the bottom). You know, you donât have to behave today the way you behaved yesterday. Yesterday is an interesting story, but itâs fine to set the book down and deal with today on a blank page.
This is beginning to be serious, as the younger generations seem to be finding themselves more in that camp of a "blank page", together with a decline in their IQ. - If I understand you right.
Now I finally understand why Americans call me Hun!

rgio is the one who had three family members arrive on the Mayflower. He is the extra special one. My family got here 20 years later in Kennebunkport, Maine. I'm just trailer trash.
We should have closed the borders right then and there. For the record, all according to my sister who tracks this stuff, we're descended from 3 Mayflower arrivers. The number of Mayflower descendants in the US is (I think) around 20 million. Special is only a slight embellishment.
There is another Rpeep who once mentioned that they were descendants of Mayflower arrivals.

Note the contempt illustrated by islander numerous times. I am sure that he would approve of the defacing of the statue of G Washington on the campus of, wait for it ... George Washington University.
As far as I know the statue still has all the shit on it. It has lasted well over a week.
And let us not forget, staying on topic to the thread ... Trump accurately predicted this would happen.
Dodge. You made it clear long ago that you do not like merit based anything when we discussed immigration. Especially when it came to immigration. You're an open border, DEI guy.
.

Again - since you are slow on the uptake: merit based is fine if we all start from the same place. Support is fine too, because I want to live in a pleasant society, where we don't let our brothers starve in the streets when there is no famine.
And sorry, can't keep track of your entitlements. You have birthright access to California surf spots? Or is it just cut any line you want if there are immigrants ahead of you?
We should have closed the borders right then and there.

Still puts you in the <10% range. And it justifies you taking over kurtser's house of you want it.

go back to the old ways ? You mean like when this country was a Meritocracy ? Hell yes !!!! You have made it clear that you are steadfastly opposed to merit based systems.
Ha! You're the one who steadfastly makes some oddball claim of eminent domain based on the fact you can trace your lineage to the mayflower or some such nonsense. How the hell is that 'merit based'. I want everyone to have the same opportunity and the same level of support. Which idea has more basis in merit?
