Now that you mention it... why do we need election reforms/security, if there are no issues with the primaries this year in places that couldn't shoot straight in 2020?

So there not a separate baggage-check on any private flights? Never knew that.

Yes, it is a red herring just to try and gain more sympathy for the "outlandish" actions taken by the FBI on behalf of the DOJ.

Bag check?  The cars don't usually pull up to the plane like in the movies, but the "terminal" is a well-appointed room or two, with enough chairs to hold the passengers of a plane while they fuel it.  Chips and sodas... and a place for pilots to file flight plans, check the weather, etc.

IF (capital if) there is immigration, it's a guy with a badge and maybe a gun inside the terminal, who likely comes out to meet the plane and check credentials.  Rich people don't have their bags opened.  They really aren't a risk.  If they want something illegal done, they're going to pay someone else to do it.  They also don't tend to blow up the plane they're on, and only invite people they know onboard.  Pilots become family members... a lot of trust there.   Diplomats are the same, if not even less "inspected".

It's good to be the king.

FWIW... This isn't my assuming things.  I spent a few years consulting for a company that had a couple of planes and I spent most weeks jumping all over the place.  It was the company bus.  We started outside Philly, and would stop in central PA long enough to open the door for 2 people to jump in... then back in the air.  Dropped them off on the way back.  It was handy.  From my bed to Laramie, WY and back home for dinner.  The best part is you could grab a case of beer and throw it onboard.  Before places like Bells were distributed nationally, it was the only way to get certain beers in this area (expedition stout...the first time I ever paid $80+ for a case of beer).

Or does he bitch, whine and moan that maybe the Primary was stolen from him too?

Does he proceed to fracture the GOP and then threaten to run as an Independent and try to take all his supporters with him? The last scenario seems less likely as one would think he would lose a very big chunk of his war-chest that the RNC controls. Would some weak-kneed Republican sycophants (Greene, Boebert, Gaetz) become Independents to join him?

What happens is he disputes the election, calls the process corrupt, and accuses the officials counting the votes of cheating. This ties the party in knots and exposes Trump's earlier claims of election fraud as pure sour grapes.

I doubt Trump has any stomach, energy, or expertise for the effort required to qualify for the ballot and build a national movement. This would be a good avenue—or rather blind alley—to encourage them to pursue.

Strangely enough, I could venture that him running as an independent... just to try and make sure that DeSantis doesn't get elected... would actually be reward enough for him and help solidify in his own mind that he is still the "King Maker" that he thinks he is. If things don't go Trump's way he has always been quick to try to burn the house down. I don't see him any less pissed off to losing to DeSantis in a primary over Biden for the presidency... perhaps it might even piss him off more.

Or maybe he will make good on starting a new party. The â€œPatriot Party" I think is what he has talked about before.

What we can count on is that he will be looking for the pathway that allows for the best grifting.

If he were to run as an independent, it would splinter the GOP, and neither Trump or the GOP candidate would be able to get enough votes to prevent the Dem from wining. Trump will have pissed off those remaining in the GOP, thereby further diminishing his influence.

Regardless of what Trump does going forward, it will be difficult for the GOP to prevent a splintering. What strikes me is that some of its Trump-endorsed candidates are — no other way  to put it — rather dumb. DeSantis and Cruz are smart guys who shamelessly will say and do things to advance themselves. A guy like Herschel Walker, well, he might actually believe some of the stupid things he says. The loyalty to Trump litmus test very well may come back to bite the GOP in the ass in these midterms (snatching defeat from the jaws of victory) and in 2024. The current cult-like devotion to Trump obviously is not sustainable. The question is when, not if, it crumbles.

I assume the last sentence of the first paragraph is a rhetorical question.

When he ran in the GOP primary in 2016, he complained that it was rigged against him. He won. During the general election campaign, he complained that it was rigged against him. He won. I guess those elections were poorly rigged. Then he complained repeatedly in advance of the 2020 election that it was being rigged and the only way he could lose would be because of this fraud. And, of course, we saw and are continuing to see him bemoan the rampant election fraud he says plagued the 2020 election, along with his actions to remain in office. So, yes, we can fully expect he would bitch, whine, and moan about a loss in the GOP primary. That is his MO.

I do not think he would run as an independent in that scenario — unless he saw the monetary gain for him as counterbalancing the sting of the defeat.  I do think the GOP is headed for a splintering.

Diplomats do get different treatment abroad.  My BIL worked in the WH, and he would not go through regular immigration (or really anything resembling it), and is pretty much "untouchable" by foreign governments while there.  No speeding tickets, no drunk and disorderly, etc.  That said... they were on their best behavior knowing they were being watched.  It's a trade-off.  You also don't want the host government surprised to "find out" US government officials are in their country, even if it's just to lay out by the pool.

All of that said... Donnie hasn't ever been through a TSA checkpoint. It's one of the perks of flying in private planes.

They do allow the holder to skip things like baggage checks and ID checks.  It also apparently grants diplomatic immunity and allows entry to most countries without having to apply for a Visa.  I think it can only be used for traveling on "official" government business though.  I have a friend who used to work for the State Department Diplomatic Corps; I had asked him about it a few times.

But that would have to have happened after he left office, and he had a lot of other things going on during that era. I'm pretty sure he's not really interested in diplomatic missions like many other former presidents have been, and he can't use it for leisure travel. So yeah, it does seem odd/curious. I'm fine with it though.

Mountain out of molehill. A distraction, which is SOP.

1) he knew they were coming, so it wasn't a raid.
2) his cameras caught everything, so there was no evidence planting - or if there was, it should've been proven by now.
3) the passports aren't the issue; it's that he said he'd given the government documents back - but lied about it
4) the ex-President of the USA had at his private unsecured golf club secret/classified documents that he had been obligated to leave behind. Either he's stupid or a thief. All together now: what about her emails?

I was just answering the question posed to me about the passports.  Nothing more.

I've been dealing with two computer crashes over the last month and mucho $$'s, lost data, and for the past two days replacing 10 year old hard drives in my music puter and moving data around.  Right now I am trying to recover 400 gigs of music files.

Now is not a good time to push my buttons.

As for the videotapes of the search, Trump was able to watch the search as it happened via a liver feed to New York where he was about to testify.

The FBI knew of the surveillance cameras. Trump is bluffing. As always.

From trump, (so who knows how accurate):

"Wow! In the raid by the FBI of Mar-a-Lago, they stole my three Passports (one expired), along with everything else," Trump wrote on his Twitter knockoff Truth Social on Monday.
