Yes, Great Pumpkin, we've noticed. But don't blame the light bulbs...

There is a long history of protesters at congressional hearings, but this was no ordinary member of the public. He was Owen Shroyer, who works as a host at the far-right conspiracy site Infowars.

Shroyer was active in spreading the most bizarre conspiracy theory of the 2016 presidential election, that Hillary Clinton was running a pedophile ring through a string of pizza restaurants. The spreading of the fabricated allegations led to staff at the targeted restaurants being subjected to threats and harassment, and an armed man turning up a Washington pizzeria with an AR-15 assault rifle in December 2016, threatening staff and shooting off the lock of a cupboard, supposedly in pursuit of an a personal “investigation” into the pedophile claims.

The gunman was sentenced to four years in jail. Shroyer is clearly still in business. His Twitter account recorded his arrest, pushing the hashtag #FreeOwenShroyer.

Shroyer’s disruption was not just an incidental disturbance, but an opening salvo in the real battle underlying the impeachment hearings: a battle over the power to shape reality.

I saw the incident live.

While you're right there is a long history of protestors, the odd thing to me was how similar the comments were to the Republican talking points.

“The members of the democratic party are committing treason!”
“You can kick me out but you’re the ones committing treason! America’s done with this! America is sick of the treason committed by the Democratic party!
 â€œI’m not going to sit here and watch you run an impeachment scam to remove our vote. We voted for Donald Trump! Americans are sick of the democratic treason! Trump is innocent”

Protestors usually feel like they're on the fringe of an ideology...no longer.  It felt like the stuff Nunes or Stefanik or Jordan would scream if being removed from the hearing.

I don't understand - he could win, surely, but there aren't any facts to support the dream of "landslide." The first win wasn't a landslide, and he hasn't done much to expand his appeal.
So he might win, despite the will of the majority of Americans, because of the peculiarities of the electoral college.

Is there some sort of high-school football team rah rah leftover thing that makes people think that this is us v them? It's not, you know. This is about who has the best ability to run the entire USA, not piss off one side or another. If you want "our team vs their team" then there are plenty of sports on TV. This is much much different.

Dude, only a fool would say that!  {#Wink}

It was the greatest victory of any presidential election ever!  Even in the face of all the millions of illegal alien voters that all voted for Hillary!  And he had the biggest inauguration celebration in the history of inaugurations!  Millions & millions!  And after 3 years it's clear that he's the greatest president in the history of the United States, or maybe even any country anywhere!  Better that Abraham Lincoln!  Better than Moses!

Of course, Trump wouldn’t be president if we had effective white collar prosecutions. He would have been in prison decades ago and that would’ve been the end of it, of the most corrupt administration. So it’s demonstrating implicitly the costs of not prosecuting these people. And you’re seeing it isn’t just him, he’s got a whole cabinet of corrupt officials. Right? Yeah. And as Sunderland testified famously, they were all in on it. Everybody in the leadership of the Trump administration was involved in the latest crimes involving Ukraine. But well before that, more traditional white collar crimes, that’s what Trump’s been committing for over 40 years. And his father was a white collar criminal.

From the inconsequential New York Times, the worst newspaper in the world, a letter to the editor:

Opinion

LETTER

Trump Gets ‘a Dose of His Own Medicine’ at NATO

A reader says he can dish it out but can’t take it.

Dec. 5, 2019, 3:07 p.m. ET
Credit...Al Drago for The New York Times

To the Editor:

Re “Stung in Europe, and Finding No Balm at Home” (White House Memo, front page, Dec. 5):

How refreshing to see Donald Trump receive a dose of his own medicine.

Unprotected abroad by the force field of Fox News and Republican sycophancy, he flees early, sniveling and humiliated. Yet again, he has confirmed that he can dish it out, but he can’t take it.

Grow up, Mr. President. Or stay home.

is so nice compared to what most folks are calling Trump these days.
I hear that some people are calling him:

*    All hat, no cattle

*    The no-delivery guy

*   Orange man with the forked tongue

*   The dude who sniffed solvents all the way through the Wharton School
Then there are those who get really impatient and let it all hang out:

*   Misogynist, racist white trash

*   The best anti-American President ever

But this is how things seem to go with Trump. The outrageousness, the lack of diplomacy is now expected — and expected to be tolerated, for fear of incurring Trump's fury.
