My wife's employer is the local ambulance company - first responders and staff. The company contracts with the city, so it's a pseudo-government employer. They were issued enough doses for all their employees and "at-risk" family members. I am over sixty and have cardiovascular disease, so I guess that qualified me.

Yeah, each state — and sometimes delegated down to county or city — has its own guidelines for prioritization phases.  Most are approximately following CDC guidelines, but CDC itself recently changed its guidelines to recommend opening to 65 and above and not just 75 and above in phase 1B. Most states are now following that. Before, 65-74 and those with high-risk conditions were in phase 1C. Phase 1A pretty much everywhere  has been for health care workers and nursing home residents and staffs. As I commented earlier, phases 1B and 1C really will be conflating, making it somewhat of a free-for-all for getting vaccination appointments.

As far as I've read, the distribution of the vaccine to the states was based on populations, not rates of infection.  I would imagine that the administration of the vaccine is handled by State or local (county, city, etc.) authorities.

it looks that way here

we get or can look at daily reports (fl website is very informative)

the focus seems to be on those older and infirmed and those that care for them

Admirable for sure. I am a bit curious as to the reasons.  Infection rates and death rates are still way too high across the entire bottom half of the country.

From my vantage point here in metropolitan DC, it seems to be chaotic. Like many jurisdictions, DC, VA, and MD now essentially are conflating priority phases, leaving only 2 weeks or sometimes even only one between the start of one phase and the addition of another. There is not enough vaccine available to complete those vaccinations for a prioritization group in such short time frames — not even close. The eligibility pool will expand greatly with the addition of a new phase and appointments essentially are first-come, first-served by phone or online, so a lot of the prior prioritization evaporates at that point.

My wife got an appointment down south (Gloucester County) in 2 weeks when nothing was available around here (Burlington).  We figured it was worth a 40 min drive.

They are supposed to open some large vaccination centers in 6 locations soon, but I haven't seen any updates.

big one at Moorestown Mall but it's not open yet. my appt. is at Camden County College
