‘Word salad of nonsense’: scientists denounce Jordan Peterson’s comments on climate models
Speaking on Joe Rogan’s podcast, Peterson claimed the climate was too complex to be modelled accurately, which was quickly shot down by scientists

Disagree.  Violence is always about resources.  From one end to the other.  The narrative evolves to motivate people to steal, detain, torture and kill.

Your second line is naive beyond belief.   Take the ethnic cleansing campaigns of early US statehood.    The US Armed Forces extirpated large numbers of North American natives.  They forced them off the land and confined them in non-economic reserves.  Was there any opportunity for North American natives to negotiate or work things out?

miamizsun:  Have you ever talked to American natives who were thankful that the American state had wiped out a big chunk of their family and community?

Take the modern US-backed ethnic cleansing terrorism in the former Palestinian Mandate.    Are you familiar with the failed Oslo Peace Accords?   If the answer is yes, then you are aware that Israel was unwilling to stop the flow of settlers to the West Bank.   What would you miamizsun suggest the Palestinians should have done in that case?

miamizsun, I have two adult-like questions for you.

How many Americans lives are you willing to sacrifice so Israel can annexe the Golan Heights, East Jerusalem, continue to flood the West Bank with settlers, etc., etc.?

The state of Israel came to life thanks to the heroic efforts of Palestinian Jewish Terrorists.   Should patriotic Americans band together and finance a statue that honours terrorism and then give it to Israel as a gift?

just saw this (i'll give it a minute)

- people are resources too
- who is initiating the violence there? the us army? violence/war should be the last resort
- i don't want to sacrifice any lives
- you want me to make a call on years and years of violence, war and expansionist policies? the crazy can't go on forever - stop killing and start negotiating

R.N.C. Signals a Pullout From Presidential Debates

The Republican National Committee says it will require candidates to pledge to not participate in debates run by the Commission on Presidential Debates. What would replace them, if anything, was unclear.

Apparently, the RNC is setting the table so Trump doesn't have to face unwanted questions again.  Why would they...since everyone is out to get them.

No.  Relgion, ethnicity and group identification form part of the narrative that results in better intra-group cooperation and the resulting rhetoric oftens invites those group members to stop viewing the issue in a rational manner.

Read the someone's ear anecdote carefully.  Can you identify the resource at stake?

    Who's we?
The sort of civil war that Walter and Marche worry about wouldn’t involve red and blue armies facing off on some battlefield. If it happens, it will be more of a guerrilla insurgency. As Walter told me, she, like Marche, relies on an academic definition of “major armed conflict” as one that causes at least 1,000 deaths per year. A “minor armed conflict” is one that kills at least 25 people a year. By this definition, as Marche argues, “America is already in a state of civil strife.” According to the Anti-Defamation League, extremists, most of them right-wing, killed 54 people in 2018 and 45 people in 2019. (They killed 17 people in 2020, a figure that was low due to the absence of extremist mass shootings, possibly because of the pandemic.)

i think that's the point i was making?

The organization that conducted the review of the presidential vote in Arizona’s largest county said it was insolvent and had laid off its employees.

The value of the audit was the repeated suggestion of fraud, not the fact that there wasn't any.  In true modern Republican fashion... question what you don't like, sell it to the faithful and then disappear when anyone starts asking questions about facts.

Understand the valuable resources in play and you can start to sketch the outline of future conflict.

Unfortunately, most voting North Americans appear to believe that violent conflict is about 'us versus them'.   Cultural preferences are at play according to this popular attitude.  It is often expressed as:  "They hate our lifestyle."   Often this ends up being one version of Dark Ages-style morality pitted against another.

Walter is in some senses stating the obvious that civil war victims are often taken by surprise but it is definitely worth dwelling on this observation. For a recent example, see how pro-American Afghanis and ex-pats in Afghanistan were taken by surprise by the speed at the Taliban takeover of the country and the ensuing chaos despite overwhelming historical experience to suggest that exact outcome.

The incompetent US armed forces NEVER controlled Afghanistan through almost 2 decades of military occupation.
