I  think I really need to do an oil change on my Hyundai before my weekend of drinking, sports and debauchery getaway. And maybe a hair cut.
Oh and separate my unibrow so I can hide that I’m a Neanderthal.

Too many trolls out there. Been here since 2001 but officially 2002. And I’ve seen those trolls do a number on the regulars who just upped and left.

And over-posting of material that's just a headline without commentary, and easily accessible by any news aggregator.
We don't need the fora to be the place to see all the latest national/international news without contribution by the poster.

Do you think there are as many pairs of sunglasses at the bottom as there are beer cans? Heaven knows hub and I have contributed at least a dozen pair of Hobie's and Jones' over the years.

The anti reflective coatings are metal oxides. Salt water is extremely corrosive to these lens coatings and most frames.  Same as perspiration which is also a corrosive salt.  Regular washing and rinsing prescription glasses in this kind of environment should be a high priority.  In this environment dried salt water or perspiration leaves hard salt crystals on the lenses, so rinsing before even washing will help to dissolve these crystals before they can scratch and do any damage.

Didn't realize that brand was still around. I've tried several versions and never really liked them that much.  Especially for work, I've managed to get caught up on all kinds of stuff in tight confines, I don't need an extra loose strap on my noggin.

There lies your problem.  That and cleaning them dry.   Just takes one false move to scratch a lens.  That is where most all of the scratches come from.  Scratches are like diamonds.  They are forever.  Treat your glasses just as you would a high end camera lens.

You need to wash them in the sink under warm running water with a splash of Dawn, another liquid like soft soap or an eyeglass spray.  Gently rub going from soapy to squeaky clean under the running water. Then dry with a clean lint free cotton or microfiber cloth that has never seen fabric softener.  Never use a paper product.  You do wash the cloths once in awhile, right ?  They turn into sandpaper after awhile if you don't.  Fabric softeners leave a film behind that no matter how hard you rub, it will not go away.  That is the secret, especially the rinsing part.  Otherwise you just rearrange the goop and park it at the edges and it gets back onto the lenses eventually, when you clean again with just a spray and a cloth.

I'll bet a buck that most of the scratches are the swirly circular type and not straight lines.  The swirly ones are from you cleaning them or trying to clean them.  Straight lines are from dropping them or other mishaps.

With proper cleaning, the coatings should stand up for at least two years, which is the expected life span of the lenses and frames.  Most of the premium anti reflective coatings have a two year warranty against scratching and failure of the coating itself.  That is not to say both won't last longer if you take really good care of them.  If you do have premium A/R then take a good look at them when they are around 18 months old.  Not liking what you see ?  Take them in and ask to use your scratch warranty.  You will get a brand new set of lenses as they can no longer be stripped and recoated.  Might be a slight service fee or not.  You may have to give up your frames for a return trip to the lab and use your spares while they are out or not.  The warranty does not start over as many seem to think.  It's two years from original purchase.  This is pretty much industry wide.

HTH ...

I have a nice suede feeling type glass cleaning cloth I got with my glasses I bought. I also use a dedicated micro-fiber cloth for cleaning them too.
