If it were up to me, I'd have Twitter banned altogether. I don't see any real positive use for it.  It's like a bad TV reality show in an app.  Never had an account, never will.

Really, the Internet. We did OK without it, and much worse with it. Do we really need to know the weather right now in Sri Lanka? For all the good posts, there are scores of goatse's and Qanons.

Well...

There's a lot of crap and fake stuff on the Internet. But my take is that as a repository of useful and accurate information as well as a means of calculation and communication, the Internet easily provides more good than harm.

the PPP payroll protection money just got a rules change. It was supposed to go 75% to paychecks and 25% incidentals. Now it's only 60% earmarked for payroll. Yesterday on Marketplace, they said it was because since so many places were shut down, employers didn't have a payroll, so now they have 6 months to get people back to work. My employer said essentially the same thing: They'll get reimbursed for payroll but only because we're actually at work. So Stephanie and I sit here not answering phones so we can get a check that the boss will be reimbursed for....

Pretty sure the point was that we should stay home and get paid, but oh well.

Yeah, and it was supposed to be so they could pay people instead of putting them on unemployment. I got a PPP loan and I've been making full paychecks to my crew for the entire time, regardless of hours worked. There were a couple of weeks were we were entirely shut down and many more at 10-20 hours (with PPE and distance and some shift stagger), didn't matter - 40 hour paychecks. This worked really well because people didn't have to do a lot of other paperwork, and didn't have to worry about another system, or delays in payments. I'll probably get the loan mostly forgiven, and my people haven't been harmed financially.  I don't love that we had to take the burden and risk on top of everything else that was/is going on, but on balance it was a better way to do it.
