There is always an element of tribalism in politics but we haven't seen it this naked and unashamed before—where there is nothing but tribalism to a campaign.

The campaign, however, is over. Time to criticize the presidency for what it turns out to be, not what it was promised to be.

that's probably true in my voting  lifetime (1978 to today - see below)

and asking people to use logic, reason and evidence in politics to displace fear and ignorance years of political conditioning, manipulation and rhetoric is a tall order

however it is worthy and we've got to start somewhere

Op-ed: Libertarians Have Long Led the Way on Marriage

As the Supreme Court prepares for a possibly historic ruling, most of the country now supports gay marriage. Libertarians were there first. Indeed John Podesta, a top adviser to Bill Clinton,  Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton and founder of the Center for American Progress, noted in 2011 that you probably had to have been a libertarian to have supported gay marriage 15 years earlier.

Just seven years ago, in the 2008 presidential campaign, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Hillary Clinton all opposed gay marriage. The Libertarian Party endorsed gay rights with its first platform in 1972 — the same year the Democratic nominee for vice president referred to “queers” in a Chicago speech. In 1976 the Libertarian Party issued a pamphlet calling for an end to antigay laws and endorsing full marriage rights.

That’s no surprise, of course. Libertarians believe in individual rights for all people and equality before the law. Of course they recognized the rights of gay people before socialists, conservatives, or big-government liberals.

As of this writing, Whitehouse.gov is sparsely populated. Its blog currently hosts one post (about the inaugural address), while pages for Press Briefings, Statements, Nominations, and Presidential Actions are all blank:
In short, the previous content of WhiteHouse.gov was transferred to ObamaWhiteHouse.gov on Inauguration Day, while President Trump's team is in the process of repopulating WhiteHouse.gov with content specific to his administration.

It's logical that they wouldn't leave up pages featuring Obama's time there, what was odd was that temporary redirect, but maybe that was some sort of default setting.

Ready, fire, aim!

Trump Issues Executive Order Scaling Back Parts of Obamacare

...

The one-page order, which Mr. Trump signed in a hastily arranged Oval Office ceremony shortly before departing for the inaugural balls, gave no specifics about which aspects of the law he wanted to target. But its broad language gave federal agencies wide latitude to change, delay or waive provisions of the law that they deemed overly costly for insurers, drug makers, doctors, states or patients, suggesting that it could have wide-ranging impact, and essentially allowing the dismantling of the law to begin even before Congress moves to repeal it.

The order states what Mr. Trump made clear during his campaign: that it is his administration’s policy to seek the “prompt repeal” of the health insurance law, which has come to be known as Obamacare. But he and Republicans on Capitol Hill have not yet devised a replacement, making such action unlikely in the immediate term.

And he's just getting started!

Internal List Shows President Trump Was Sworn In Next To His VIP Donors

When Donald J. Trump took office today, he declared that “we are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the American People.” (...)

The documents, which come from the inauguration’s organizing committee, paint a markedly different picture than the one Trump presented during the campaign, that of a swashbuckling populist who would overturn “the rigged system” and drain Washington’s corrupt “swamp” of money-driven influence.

If these documents are any indication, Trump’s inner circle is shaping up to be even more plutocratic and insular than that of previous presidents. (...)

Here in DC it's been drizzly, overcast and in the high 40s for much of today. No visible sun, and no need to be as heavily bundled as the folks in the picture are. When Obama was inaugurated in January 2009, it was about 18 degrees on the Mall at the time of the ceremony. Don't know the weather when he was sworn in in January 2013.

So yes: Trump is a fraud and a—hole. Interesting that his administration had time to wipe out mention of climate change and LGBT  issues from the whitehouse.gov page before his first day in office ended. Meanwhile...how's that health care plan coming along, Donnie?

Too bad Ringling Brothers is shutting down:
