The cover was dull enough for this double album, but the gatefold was especially bad:

When I was a kid Rex Allen was really big on the rodeo circuit and we saw him quite often because of that. YeeHaw!

I'm pretty sure he hosted some Saturday syndicated variety show. Narrated some Disney movies too, right? More famous for his voice-work, by the 70s.

Indeed, he did voice work until his untimely death when he was run over by his caregiver who evidently didn't quite care enough about him.{#Snooty}

 That song was actually kind of fun in a drunk bar, the way Garth Brooks Friends in Low Places was. I mean "fun" as in "Play this on the jukebox and watch people lose their minds singing along."

When I was a non-country kid I always sort of conflated Mac Davis and Kris Kristofferson. Still don't really hear KK right because of that.

They did seem pretty much alike to me back then:  high-profile, Texas-born singer/songwriters who wrote a lot of songs for other people.  At least Kristofferson wrote good lyrics and wasn't on television INCESSANTLY for about ten years.  As you may know, Mac Davis wrote the notorious classic "Watching Scotty Grow".

lol not a Bobby Goldsboro original? Crushed!

First music concert my parents took me to: Rex Allen, Joan Rivers, Bobby G.

I didn't get Joan much (8 years old maybe) but I think I'll go look up some Rex Allen youtubes. I think he was pretty cool. Voice of Purina Dog Chow commercials, I think.

Nice line art by Naiad Einsel (one of just a handful of female illustrators getting work back then) but otherwise...
