Ok what I was calling 'cache' was the 'buffer ahead'. I did not mean the cache blocks that can be squirreled away for a long outage. So... on the main screen where 'PSD' has been replaced by the musical note, and the cloud emblem no longer displays a percentage remaining - you can't tell what stream you are on at a glance, ie mellow/rock/eclectic/favorite

I bring this up because I have discovered that if I am on the main stream and leave wifi, it simply switches to the saved data in the 'buffer ahead'

what I was initially reporting was that if I am on 'favorites' and the buffer ahead is at 100%, the moment I walk out of WiFi, or if I turn my WiFi off, playback immediately stops

because I was unaware the app will start on the last stream selected, instead of reverting to the main stream on app launch, I was getting inconsistent playback

if I'm on the main stream and fill the buffer to 100%, no playback problem when leaving WiFi

if I'm on 'favorites' and fill the buffer to 100%, playback immediately stops when leaving Wifi

What 'buffer ahead feature' needs to be enabled?  I've been using the app for years and never had to do anything special before. Typically if I was to be out all weekend I would download 6hrs ahead and maybe make cache blocks if I was going to  be out of town or driving for more than 6 hours.

 jarro wrote:
We may adjust that behavior once things are stable.

Currently it will just try to switch to the buffer if it is currently streaming.
When it detects a network change.

That requires the buffer ahead  feature to be enabled.

New updated android player seems to stop working after leaving wifi even if the cache is full,  (I don't use cell)

edit; (update) verified it this morning, with full cache and in the middle of playing a song I turned off the wifi on my phone an RP instantly stopped playing and would not play until I turned the wifi back on, even though the offline cache was full - it won't play back anything when it's offline

android 9, motoG(6)

Currently, what is showing on the "Now Playing" page is not matching what is playing on the tune in URL, or what is playing when I click the "Play" button on the web player...

Try to change channel (or "sync to web stream") to work around the problem. Also, if it happens again, send us the logs via preferences (the gear icon) > Feedback > Malfunction (so we get the log and can investigate). If the playlist was cached no network should be involved.

It’ll say “ error loading playlist” and it will not play anymore after that. I have to delete how ever many minutes it says I’ve cached and download/cache again.
I figured it could be some data interruption going on.
Thanks for replying.

It's most likely a connectivity issue with the server but.  Hard to say for certain.
Would need a bit more info to narrow things down.

- Android or iOS?
- exact text of the error.
- rough location,  continent would be sufficient :)

For the iOS app, just change channel or "sync with web stream" to recover.

Things should be back to normal now.
A page reload should clear that up,  if you're just using  the web player.

Currently my playlist is two tracks ahead of actual song playing. Could this relate to the fact that on two previous occasions today it took some time (5 to 10 minutes) for RP to start playing after opening?

No RP service at all. I'm in the UK using Chrome on Windows 10. I tried the Edge browser and the new player didn't work but legacy did. I've cleared the cookies but it's made no difference.

EDIT 1: I left the player open and it suddenly started to play after about 10 minutes. It was ok for about another 10 minutes until a continuity announcement and then it stopped straight after. It started up again when I clicked play.

EDIT 2: Been working fine for the last hour.

Currently  the app does not support casting cached data stored on the phone.
But...
While not ideal,  you  can get around this with the mirror feature.
Can initiate that from within  the  Google Home app.
- launch the home app  ->  select your cast device -> select cast my screen

One caveat to all this though is  the slideshow  will use your wifi to fetch slides when it's available.

So you may want to disable that in settings.

I live in an area without usable internet, the solution is to have a 4G SIM based router.  Sadly data is very expensive over this, is capped,  and thus consumption must be limited.

was very pleased to see the cache block concept which allows me to download the music when I am out and about out at friends with unlimited internet, for consumption when I get home or so I thought.

however when I try and play the cacheblock music, it does so fine, but as soon as I try the Chromecast option it it switchesback  to the live stream, thus defeating the entire point of the cache block.

am I doing something stupid or is this a bug ?I obviously want it to Chromecast what I'm playing at any point in time. If it cannot do this I will not be able to use your service which would be a great shame.

There were a problem with European audio servers used by the app. It should have been solved few minutes after your message.

The "new" browser-based site is not loading for me - I tried closing the tab and opening a new one - just getting the buffering "spinning wheel" - before then it was frozen.  The legacy site works though (or I would not have been able to write this).  Chrome Version 78.0.3904.108 and Firefox 70.0.1 - Windows 7 Prof'l.

*** edit: - It's working now.

I got the update and tried all the problem scenarios I had trouble with and they all worked properly.  The only thing that caught my eye was that I think the landscape slideshow downloaded from cell when I turned to landscape for a few seconds while I was waiting for the buffer to run dry.  I didn't verify this, I just disabled slideshow.

Thanks for working on this and getting it fixed quickly.  I wish other web sites had this kind of support.  Thanks again.

It will properly handle vpn's now.

But you'll want to do some tests.
Quite a few devices don't provide accurate information.
Although it seems to be more of a problem on  Android 8 and lower.
