Hmmm. A majority polled say the media exaggerated the Coronavirus. And a majority polled say the media downplayed the Coronavirus. Amazing the media could simultaneously do both! Of course, we know the media is biased. It could not be possible that the readers or viewers brought their biases into play, could it? Nah!

Why the Pandemic Is Driving Conservative Intellectuals MadThe lockdown has produced a disparity between the old script of grievance and a sickness that can wreak destruction on anyone.
Last week, First Things editor R.R. Reno, a prominent Catholic intellectual who backed Donald Trump for president, let the world know heâd had enough of the effete conformists following public-health guidelines in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Sharing a photo on Twitter of Trump saluting World War II veterans, none of them wearing masks, he declared, âTheyâre men, not cowards. Masks=enforced cowardice.â
The reaction from critics was swift and punishing, as they noted the emerging wisdom that masks may be one of the most effective measures in preventing the spread of Covid-19. But Reno decided to tweet through it in a typo-laden tirade. âThe mask culture if fear driven. Masks+cowardice,â he wrote. âItâs a regime dominate by fear of infection and fear of causing of infection. Both are species of cowardice.â Other, similarly garbled tweets followed, but one of them serves as an especially telling summary of his position: âNow we know who want to cower in place. By all means rage against those who want to live.â
The outburst was no aberration. Since March, heâs produced a string of commentary doubting the severity of the pandemic and lamenting the measures taken to combat itâparticularly the temporary closures of churches. Itâs not as deadly as we feared, heâs said, and for those under 35, perhaps little more worrisome than the fluâa statement that blithely ignores all that we still donât know about Covid-19, from the long-term effects it might cause in even healthy young adults to the sudden spike in a Kawasaki-like disease in children. No matter. Reno renders his verdict: âThe science increasingly shows that the measures we have taken in the last few weeks have been both harmfulâwith freedoms lost, money spent, livelihoods destroyedâand pointless,â he wrote.
Itâs not just that Reno can sound at times like a coronavirus truther. He is also convinced that our pandemic response stems from a deeper civilizational malaise, one that prioritizes the fleeting material world over the everlasting life that awaits our souls after death. In a missive published in March, Reno declared, âThere are many things more precious than life,â and castigated political leaders, especially New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, for leading âan ill-conceived crusade against human finitude and the dolorous reality of death.â (...)

So with all that in consideration, returning to the Trump Death Count, can we all agree that the only reason it is being maintained is to present 56 k and counting, reasons not to vote for Trump ? There is no other reason than a political one ? It is assigning blame while at the same time holding everyone else blameless, purely for political reasons. Who would want to politicize this number and gain from doing so ? One guess I'm thinking. I'm thinking blue. It is why I said whatI said.
Me, I hold China singlehandedly to blame for starting this whole Pandemic. But if people want to hold Trump to blame for a certain amount of USA deaths, then we must hold the rest accountable, too, to be honest and non political.
I'll stick with China while the rest of you all can go about your own blaming processes and I will assign the same reason for doing so as I already have.
ymwv ...
Your boy is out there every day telling people what a great job he's done. I'm not politicizing this....the guy with the death clock is. China absolutely set the house on fire. I don't think anyone is arguing. What's amazing is that after China lit the match, our leader was focused on telling us how great the house was as it burned. After finally letting the fire department on the property (they were called by a neighbor and were sitting outside the gate), he wants credit for saving the cats and the half of the house that remains. He's now tweeting (on that corrupt, disinformation platform) about the stock market. 40M people filed for unemployment last week....the stock market and their reality are headed in opposite directions. The market is up BECAUSE those people have lost their jobs, and small biz is soon to be a historical reference. Look...."the rich are getting richer" isn't a good platform for reelection, only his faithful are too focused on not wearing masks to notice. He's losing senior votes by the hour...he's trailing badly in PA, and the rust belt, and he's so bad even GA and TX are in play! I guess it's fair to say you don't have a number? Sure...you have research and links and blame....but you can't deliver a fact-based assessment of the blame you are so eager to share.

Just as offensive to me and with little difference.
So there. There is a big difference between attributing deaths to the competence/incompetence of Trump and his administration’s response and saying or suggesting that Democrats want more deaths because that will hurt Trump’s re-election chances. Trump has said repeatedly that his January 30 decision to place a ban on flights from China saved hundreds of thousands of American lives. But it is offensive to say or suggest that his administration’s inaction in February along with the early testing failure of the CDC caused unnecessary deaths? See below.

One fact: Almost 100,000 confirmed covid-19 fatalities in about three months with the count certainly higher if more testing had been available. Difficult to throw out stats that seem to try to minimize the reality of this number or the impact of the disease.

There is certainly no problem with coming up with a number on your side. Do you have a problem with Cuomo ?
Cuomo, NY. He has 25 k on his hands just by what he did to the nursing homes there. Then what about the subways ? That is a quarter of all the USA deaths to date.
So give me a number for Trump. You or anyone else ... I know someone is keeping score somewhere ... Totally senseless and unknowable question. My point was about your statement that democrats want lots of people to die so Trump will be blamed. I'm certainly not about deflect from that and play your game so you can feel justified.
