"You're going to love owning the platinum package," Charlene Bollinger tells viewers, as a picture of a DVD set, booklets and other products flashes on screen. Her husband, Ty, promises a "director's cut edition," and over 100 hours of additional footage.
Click the orange button, his wife says, "to join in the fight for health freedom" â or more specifically, to pay $199 to $499 for the Bollingers' video series, "The Truth About Vaccines 2020."
The Bollingers are part of an ecosystem of for-profit companies, nonprofit groups, YouTube channels and other social media accounts that stoke fear and distrust of COVID-19 vaccines, resorting to what medical experts say is often misleading and false information.
An investigation by The Associated Press has found that the couple work closely with others prominent in the anti-vaccine movement â including Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his Children's Health Defense â to drive sales through affiliate marketing relationships.
Some of it is the tyranny of first approximations. Someone comes up with a rule of thumb and then everyone sticks with it even as evidence gathers that it is a generalisation based on a best guess.
This is a story about how two siloed areas of the sciences should have been talking all along, and only recently started to.
Y'know, because lives are at stake and stuff.......
The public has a long history of ignoring established scientific consensus that would 'save lives'.
Science has a long history of new, great ideas and innovations that initially met stiff opposition from peers. Scientists are not immune to confirmatory bias that turns out to have negative consequences.
My view? At least maverick, original scientists are not losing their jobs or finding themselves imprisoned or worse.

Apparently break through infections are happening, even to those 'double vaxed.' Too many believe that the vax will prevent them from getting infected with Covid. No, it doesn't. It merely pumps up our immune systems to prevent against severe illness and hospitalizations. Some folks can still get 'infected,' yet be asymptomatic. However, those who are not vaccinated, could, potentially get the virus from an asymptomatic, double vaxed person and get fatally sick.
All pandemic long, scientists brawled over how the virus spreads. Droplets! No, aerosols! At the heart of the fight was a teensy error with huge consequences.

haven't looked at any of this but there's a big difference between made/enhanced in a lab versus escaped from a lab
i'm not familiar with gain of function either but it seems like a bad idea on the surface
gleaned an article and gain of function is a broad category
tweak a virus to glow in the dark is considered a gain of function (or for possible good)
tweaking that can be used good or bad is considered dual use gain of function (where potential danger /harm is possible like modifying a virus to become more infectious)
You really need to stop regurgitating every Right conspiracy theory.
Fauci did not fund the Wuhan Lab directly, nor did he (or the lab) conduct or approve any Gain-of-function testing.

Both the NIH and EcoHealth Alliance have denied that a grant to the Wuhan lab funded gain-of-function research, though a scientist told us that one paper published with assistance from the grant seems to describe techniques similar to gain-of-function.
The Chinese have prevented the USA from doing any real investigations into what happened regarding the origins and initial outbreak. We do not know. All that we have is the word of the CCP. They say that the USA is responsible for the virus. You can take them at their word. I do not. At this late point in time, we will likely never know the origins of this virus.
There is more doubt than certainty. Fauci has many more issues than just his ties to Wuhan.
It's simple. You trust Fauci. I don't anymore. You have your reasons, I have mine.
