I really thought they had all gotten vaccinated early on.

It's amazing to watch the Right now complain that the rules keep changing....wear a mask, don't wear a mask...C'mon Tony make up your mind!  Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.

The reality we're now facing is that those of us who trusted the science and got vaccinated can't imagine why so many wouldn't do the same?  It's not political, it's common sense.

If it wasn't for those with underlying health conditions or the fact that sooner or later some variant is going to kill us all....I'd be happy to let the un-vaxed deal with it on their own.

People should have their independence, and make their own decisions about their health...but that doesn't mean we all should pay for it.  I'd support health insurance not covering the cost of COVID for those who remain unvaxed without a doctor-approved reason.  Get a Dr's note (before you get sick)...no problem.  No note...you're paying for your own healthcare while exercising your right to decide!

edit: she thought her parents had gotten vaccinated too. Their dr set them up and told them to go, and they said they would. She's now finding out that they skipped it and didn't tell anyone.

Yep, back when I was a kid collecting stamps, I had plenty of German stamps with alterations denoting unbelievable prices.  I remember the pictures of wheel barrows full of cash.  WW II was still very visible in the rear view mirror as a kid growing up in the 50's and 60's.

I'm not sure how they'll define "places where there is 'substantial or high transmission'"; airports, sports arenas, enclosed malls?  I guess we'll find out.

Just before I went off to college my German grandfather gave me 17,000,000 Deutschmarks in one million DM notes, dated 1923. His advice: "Never trust government."

That was after he killed Trump's investigation into the origin of the virus.

President Joe Biden’s administration shut down a clandestine State Department operation
intended to prove the lab-based origins of Covid-19 over concerns about the work’s poor quality and its politicized, premature and selective use by Trump and his allies to blame the pandemic on China, according to CNN.

KEY FACTS

The undisclosed project, run out of the arms control unit and led by then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, was established in late 2020 to investigate the possibility a Chinese bioweapons lab played a role in the pandemic’s origin, CNN reports, citing sources familiar with the matter.

It was swiftly shuttered by Biden’s team after they were briefed in February and March, CNN reports, citing concerns over the quality of the work and being a poor use of resources.

One former State Department official familiar with the project told CNN the way the team conducted its work was secretive and “suspicious as hell,” cutting out the Department’s technical experts and the intelligence community, prematurely briefing senior officials before work had concluded and, according to another source, excising experts critical of their science.

Those involved with the project defended the work, according to CNN, pointing to a close collaboration with the intelligence community and the deliberate use of “dissenting perspectives.”

Ned Price, a State Department spokesperson, disputed CNN’s reporting in an email to Forbes, acknowledging the project but denying its cancellation.

———-

So he replaced a shoddy investigation that was trying to prove the predetermined outcome they wanted rather than actually, you know, investigating. Still can't get to your accusations that the Democrats have an official conclusion when they actually were investigating the situation.

You rang?

If you think I am somehow the leader of this band of misfits, then you are seriously misjudging the situation. Even if I turn around swiftly, I'm lucky to see anyone behind me scurry into the shadows, much less lined up ready to take orders or bring me a smoothie.

BTW, on the subject of gov't lies, Joe Wilson's book about his diplomatic career explains something to keep in mind. When he first asked a friend why the Chaney/Bush administration would want to out his wife as a CIA agent, the answer was they must be trying to cover up something, and did it to distract us.  It turned out what they were covering up was the fact that everyone who was anyone knew there were no WMDs in Iraq all along, and people were starting to talk about investigating war crimes. With the Plame affair going they could investigate leaks of classified information instead. (Alas, poor Scooter.  Took one for the team.)

A related method is scapegoating. Spreading the lie that the unvaccinated are responsible for the ongoing pandemic gives us a scapegoat to hate rather than our politicians, even though they can only serve in this hallowed role temporarily, once it becomes obvious that vaccinated people get covid-19 and pass it along just like anybody else. Even NPR is starting to cover the "breakthrough" problem.

With all due respect, and that I do not know how old you are, I personally know that the government has been lying to me since I was 10 years old (some 60 years ago) when it officially told me that marihuana (not a typo, google it) makes you want to "rape and kill".  I found that it was a big lie when I was 13 and had my first toke.  The next big lie was told by McNamara regarding the progress and the daily body counts of the NVA and VC during the war in Viet Nam.  And the list goes on from there.

Your observation that the government lies only goes back to Bush / Cheney is somewhat revealing.  Better late than never.  I basically have not trusted our government based upon those two lies mentioned above, most of my life, or probably longer than you have been alive.  The lies continue to this moment with the shifting sands of the "truth" about CV 19.
