So I'm here to apologize for all the uproar I caused over trying to raise some optimism about the development of a 45 minute test in development for the 19.

It appears based upon a conversation earlier today with a well plugged in friend who is a self admitted Trump loather, he told me that its cost was about $13k per test.  If this is true, then the value of such a test is basically meaningless.  My efforts to bring optimism here were wildly off base and caused way more harm than I could have ever imagined, nor intended.

Optimism is only in the eye of the beholder I guess.  I will try and be more careful in the future.

Without researching further, I think your friend is mistaking development costs/trials with the cost after scaling up production. My boss' son is an EMT/Med Student and he said the 45-minute test is available from Cheyenne to a limited few but expects it to be the standard within a week or two. (again, I overhear these conversations but am rarely involved in them because I do do some actual work sometimes at work). I assume it's the improved one you were talking about because he said it's more accurate and fast. He also said the local hospital has the equipment to analyze the swabs already (a standard kit, I guess) so when they get the test kits they'll be ready to go. {edit} "research" involving the Google say the new test will only be used on hospital personnel (such as the EMT) for now, to determine if they're okay to return to work. So this 60% spike must be the original tests.

Confirmed cases in Wyoming "shot up" 60% (to 47) today, so I'm assuming that means the tests are here.

You are owed apology, not the other way. I've read so much stupidity on this site... like the reality of the Spanish flu.

https://ourworldindata.org/spanish-flu-largest-influenza-pandemic-in-history

I  suggest do your own reaearch. Crazy how many buy into CNN and MSNBC hysteria. Quite off point. This is nothing like anything we've been through, yet it's far less impactful than even regular flu and car accidents. This could be far worse, like Italy. Hysteria is not a good look but I know you're a tight knit family, so no one will state the obvious, but this is shitty.... something we have NEVER had to deal with, not even close. The data is clear, it will pass and we are golden like South Korea because of the quarantine requests of the government that are still defied daily. Even factoring in the stupidity of gen pop, our coutry's percentage is like S. Korea so far, low and good. Maybe spikes await, but get real and just look up prime causes of death in our country. Then stay home as recommended and don't catch or spread. There are bigger monsters out there... even SUICIDE is higher percentage. Let that sink in.

WHO Says Prolonged Exposure in Confined Spaces Is Main Coronavirus Transmission

The World Health Organization had a Report of the WHO-China Joint Mission
on Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Routes of transmission
COVID-19 is transmitted via droplets and fomites during close unprotected contact between an infector and infectee. Airborne spread has not been reported for COVID-19 and it is not believed to be a major driver of transmission based on available evidence; however, it can be envisaged if certain aerosol-generating procedures are conducted in health care facilities.

Fecal shedding has been demonstrated from some patients, and viable virus has been identified in a limited number of case reports. However, the fecal-oral route does not appear to be a driver of COVID-19 transmission; its role and significance for COVID-19 remains to be determined. Viral shedding is discussed in the Technical Findings.

Household transmission
In China, human-to-human transmission of the COVID-19 virus is largely occurring in families. The Joint Mission received detailed information from the investigation of clusters and some household transmission studies, which are ongoing in a number of Provinces.

Among 344 clusters involving 1308 cases (out of a total 1836 cases reported) in Guangdong Province and Sichuan Province, most clusters (78%-85%) have occurred in families. Household transmission studies are currently underway, but preliminary studies ongoing in Guangdong estimate the secondary attack rate in households ranges from 3-10%.
