The danger happens when people give up on the system and stop participating. They (rightly) come to understand that it's rigged and as long as they are out, there is nothing in it for them. If there's nothing in it for them, then there's nothing to defend and little remorse if they happen to kick down the fence or spill the trash. It all becomes a downhill slide to nothin' much left to lose. Those people are ripe for someone targeting a little insurrection. Pick your side, there are plenty of disaffected people around right now.
I think you misunderstand my intent. I did not mean do not participate altogether, I meant do not participate in the political machine or the duopoly. Almost all activism that gets any attention to merit response is controlled by the 2 sided machine, it is beyond just Republicans and Democrats as a party. It has been broadened to left and right and everything that matters is confined within those narrow parameters; exactly 2 sides for everything. All of your opinions and votes will be either here or there. We are used to those that recognize this being pigeonholed into once again, 2 camps; apathetic response who does not bother to vote or the anarchist who wish to achieve their goals through direct violence and upheaval. What I am talking about is perpetuating the revolution through the ballot box. If all of those who have no faith in the political process as it stands now want to enact true change, the same change the revolutionist want, it has to be done peacefully and by the same method the duopoly validates their power. If those who are predisposed would just refuse to partake in their shenanigans and view both the Republican and Democrat establishment which is the shell corporation for the left and right as an obstacle, not a choice and refuse to vote for either of these parties, then and only then can we end the madness. Or some shit like that.

I have a problem with their politics, but not that they're active. Politics has been professionalized too long; if more people engaged in it they'd be forced to reckon more with the consequences of the policies they advocate. I'll take some uncomfortable Thanksgiving dinners over leaving decisions to a political class that faces no consequences for their actions.
When the process has turned the people so polarized that any activism further divides us and the participants in the perverted system leave us no viable choices on the ballots, then yes political activism is producing our leaders and corrupting law making ability with no end in sight ergo I have a problem with a system that results in participation only feeding the beast and not solving our problems. So I do not have a problem with participation, just participation in an environment that is so toxic that the encouragement of the system to continue is making things worse.
